May 9, 2012: 5 Night Bahamas Cruise on Disney Magic

No clue! I am always biting my nails when they weigh my suitcase. We have had to shuffle things around at the airport to make the weight limits work.

Kelly I am an iced coffee drinker year round. Morning= iced coffee Evening=hot. Ok and how did I miss that they have refrigerators in the cabins?!?!?! Is this all cabins... even bottom of the ship????

On the Magic and Wonder it is a cooling box, not an actual refrigerator (like on the Dream and Fantasy). I find the cooling box to do the trick although others have said they don't find them cold enough. You can always pack a few ziploc bags, have your cabin steward bring ice, fill the bags and put them in the cooling box to bring the temp down a bit. That should do the trick if you would like something to be ice cold. :)

:
I have a question for everyone. Since we're flying we have the dreaded weight limit on suit cases, and as of right now I have dresses and shoes and skirts and shorts and, and, and. How in the world am I going to pack all of this, plus pack the family? It's nut! I need help please. :eek:

This idea won't help you a whole lot on weight but it would help you on space. If you google packing carry on, you will find a photo slide show of how someone packed for 10 days in a carry on. (I saw it on pinterest). We are struggling with the new international baggage policy of 1 50 lb bag -- a good portion of international flights still got 2 until last summer when most of the airlines changed their policies. We stock up on things we can't find and gifts, shoes, and clothes for the next sizes for the girls. I have considered on the way back here packing a lot of our clothes in a carry on so I will have more space in our checked bags.

Ship a box to the port ahead of time! I'll have to get the deets on where to send in a few since I'm on my phone and just posting is a PITA on this thing. :)

Ok, this is directly from DIS...

" * One box per stateroom, no exceptions.
* The package must have the guest's full name, ship, sailing date, stateroom number or GTY if you have not been assigned a stateroom number.
* The package also must have a packing slip attached to the outside of the box that details the contents of the package. For prescriptions, a copy of the prescription is sufficient. Your list may or may not be read but it must have one. Write packing slip on the outside of the envelope.
* NO FOODS/DRINKS OF ANY KIND, LIQUOR OF ANY KIND, FIREARMS, ETC. Items that cannot be shipped to the Disney Cruise Line Warehouse and delivered to the ship include: food products (any and all food products including baby food/formula), beverages (liquor, water, etc.), chemicals, and luggage. These items will not be accepted at the warehouse and will be returned.
* The required size of the cartons you are shipping down have to be about the size of a record storage box 12 inches on a side and should not weigh more than 20 pounds.

Address your package to:

Disney Cruise Line Warehouse

Guest Name/Stateroom # (GTY, if you don't know what your room number is)

8633 Transport Drive

Orlando, FL 32832

Phone: 407-566-8196

In the bottom left corner of the top of the package put the following information:

ATTN: Housekeeping

* Name
* Sail Date
* Ship
* Stateroom Number
* Packing slip

Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00 PM for the 7-Night Cruise on the Disney Magic. (Saturday)

Packages must arrive by Friday by 3:00 PM for the 4-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder. (Sunday)

Packages must arrive by Wednesday by 3:00 PM for the 3-Night Cruise on the Disney Wonder (Thursday)

If your box is hit on by the screening dog or chosen for additional screening they will open the list and the box and look through it. They will close it back up and provided nothing forbidden is in it, then it will be in your room as usual after boarding. These boxes will be coming on the ship with the crew mail among other things so they may be in the staterooms later than the rest of your luggage."

I shipped a box to us on our Dream cruise with FE stuff, tumblers, and other misc. stuff I knew we wouldn't need before the cruise. Worked great! The box was sitting on our bed when we got to our stateroom. I'll prob'ly ship another for this cruise as well since it looks like the old man wants me to drive my car down vs. the Tahoe (gas mileage...).

Hi-
Not good at the forum/blog stuff and it took me DAYS to find this post string...anyway, my boys Luke and Jack ages 5 and 3 would like to participate in the Fish Exchange for the 9 May Disney Magic cruise! Thanks so much for the opportunity to join in the fun. I'm so glad we found you!:yay:

Welcome JessRx!! Glad to have you with us ... and a part of the FE! :thumbsup2

I was reading some posts about people getting sick on cruises. I know you have to wash your hands and have told my kids they HAVE to keep their hands clean. I was just thinking...how well do they keep the stuff in the kids' club clean? I can't imagine trying to keep video game controllers and stuff cleaned between user :confused:

When we last cruised, they were exceedingly careful about keeping everything sanitary in the kids club. In fact, they squirt your hands with soap before you even go through their little security gate. Then, they direct you to the sinks to wash off. All the toys/equipment there seemed very well-kept and clean ... and this is coming from a MAJOR germaphobe!! The same goes for the rest of the ship. There's a little antibacterial towel dispenser at every restaurant entrance and the restrooms and public areas were always spotless. I suppose that no matter where you go, there will be germs, esp. so many people to actual real estate. But, the good news is that the Magic is actually 1 of the roomiest per capita of most major cruise ships, so the chances of cooties should, technically, be less. :banana:

I can't believe we are soooo close! I seriously need to finish up my FE's and start looking at our packing list. I was hoping that some of DS's sailor suits & outfits I bought him for the last cruise still fit. Yeah, right. I'm lucky that things I bought 3 months ago still fit. I've been so busy trying to plan for our WDW trip in Oct that I need to refocus. :surfweb:

Here's wishing everyone a great week! :dance3:

Hi everyone! My goal this week is to finish my FE gifts. I am just about done! I talked to my friend who just got back from her 1st DC which was on Magic. It got me even more excited... and I didnt think that was possible! She was telling me how wonderful everything was. We are getting together on Fri for lunch and she is going to show me all her navigators.. is that what they're called??? Totally drawing a blank. LMK if there is anything specific that you want me to look for. I cant wait to see her pics! My other friend who is on the Dream said it was AMAZING! She is now at WDW and wont be back til Tues. I cant wait for her Cable Beach review.

I'll check that out thanks!:thumbsup2 This weekend I was on a mad quest to find the perfect heels to go with every one of my outfits. :wizard: My first pair was a VERY high snake skin heel. WOW COUGAR ALERT, but they were AWESOME! :lmao: I took those back and ended up with a very pretty CK heel in a neutral color, so they work perfect with all my dinner dresses. YEAH!

I'm going to start pulling everyone's clothes together to see just how much extra clothes we'll have on a cruise opposed to just a WDW trip. The good thing is there are 5 of us so 5 suitcases if we need them, but we still have to pay the first checked bag fee so I don't like to use all 5. That being said we will get 5 carry on bags, and that may be the way to go. :woohoo: The kids usually carry on their backpacks, but the better thing might be to invest in 3 more carry on bags since they're bigger then backpacks.

Weren't you worried that your box wouldn't be there?

I'm thinking maybe if I go order an iced coffee black w/no ice I could keep it in our stateroom fridge. Then in the mornings I could pour it over some ice, add milk & Splenda, and be set to go. Oooor, bring Starbucks Via packets. In the warmer months I prefer iced coffee but the iced Via packets do a number on my tummy for some reason. Weird. So if I brought Via I'd have to drink it hot.

Iced coffee sounds like the way to go. Via (hot or cold) messes up my tummy. :confused:

Do they have Splenda packets around or do I need to bring my own??

I had a professor in college who drank iced chai lattes. She would go to Stbx and buy like 3 of them with no ice and store them in her fridge :thumbsup2

Nope, not at all. I guess it never occurred to me that it wouldn't be there. I've sent myself boxes on so many of our WDW trips that it seemed like the natural thing to do. Lol!

Lookit you getting your outfits together! I refuse to even begin until I lose another 10 lbs. If I get to the last week of April & I'm not there then I'll have to go buy a whole new wardrobe which I'm desperately trying to avoid. :scared:

The Dream had Splenda. I'm sure the Magic will too. Don't know if it will help but hot Via I can only do half packets or I risk my stomach fighting back. And as much as I adore French pressed coffee my stomach never allows me that indulgence. :sad2:

I'm thinking I'll try buying cups of plain, strong, cold coffee w/o ice & bring gallon freezer bags to fill with ice for the cold box. I'm glad that got mentioned! We had a fridge on the Dream so I was thinking we'd have one on the Magic, too.

Ok, so... I've been sitting down the past couple of days (Don't ask me how with 3 kids) and have read from cover to cover the PassPorter cruise book and it is THE best book ever for first time DCL travelers!!!!!!!!!!

I have found sooooo much info out just from this book and it has everything about the ship from bow to stern!!

I highly recommend it!

Yah. My Disney World packet came today. Now if only my cruise papers would come in, they will be going to a TA first though.

:banana:

Kelly there's one on here for us about coffee. People order a pot of coffee every night before they go to bed in a insulated thermal carafe, and it stays hot till morning! Problem solved if it really stays hot. :wizard:

I've heard of people doing that. My goal is to do basically the same thing but with cold coffee vs. hot. Still, it's a great tip because the last morning there's no ordering-in. It's so easy to become spoiled on the ship! LOL!

My SIL had this book when she went on their first cruise in December and now I have it, and I agree it's a great book!!

My DH already wants me to cancel our Blue Lagoon Beach Day. He's convinced we can find the #10 Jitney and make it to the Sheraton all by ourselves, I'm a bit more nervous but the memories the kids will have of us trying will be comical! :lmao:. The reviews said you get to also use the pools at the Westin next door too. :banana:

I love this Port Canaveral webcam. I am sitting here watching the Monarch of the Seas going out to sea. I feel like I should be waving at the people :rotfl:

I can't wait to hear about Cable Beach. So far, that is the way I am leaning :thumbsup2

I just turned on the webcam too.... ugh... I wish that was us :(

I'm SOOOOOOO ready to get out of here.
