May 9, 2012: 5 Night Bahamas Cruise on Disney Magic

Yeah, we had a go of it too trying to find decent coverage in Florida. Do you know who we ended up with? AAA. Yup, they now have their own insurance in the state of Florida, and it covers homeowners. I was quite surprised in discovering this last year since AAA never wrote their own policies before. I believe their office is located on the Gulf Coast. Let me know if you want the info and I will dig it out.

I'm pretty sure Gramma already tried to go thru AAA but it didn't work out. I'll check with her again because she (& Grampa before he passed) have been AAA members forever. If she's continuing to struggle, tho, I may bring up the umbrella thing. It's terrible that you have to go to such lengths just to be able to get coverage. I can't imagine what it's like for her having lived in that house for like 40 years and now not being able to find anyone who will insure it. I'd be ready to pound someone! :cutie:

If she hasn't tried AAA in a few years, have her check again. This past year was the first time I saw that they were writing their own policies. (We had tried to go through them in past years, but did not want a 3rd party policy, and did not realize back then AAA didn't have their own insurance company.) Yeah, it's a royal pain to find good homeowners insurance in Florida these days. :sad2:

Oh funny story I just thought of (I am very post-y today :lmao: )

My dh got the mail Tuesday night but didn't bring it in the house. When we were leaving to go to the funeral home he grabs it out of his car. I am looking through it and notice something addressed to him from the court house. I open and he has a notice to serve on jury duty. He has NEVER served jury duty before. And can you guess the 2 week time period he has to be available.........wait for it.............May 7-May 18 :rotfl2:

He called his aunt, who is married to a judge in another district, and they advised him to request it be deferred to another time. They said the judge will have to approve it. Camille told him we'd have fun without him :lmao:
Oh my LOL Seriously of all weeks for him to get picked! I had to do it once and it was the week I was suppose to start a brand new job. REALLY!?!?

I have been a little nervous about this as well. :scared1:

We sent off the paperwork yesterday for his deferment. The lady at the courthouse referred to the judge as "she" so his aunt knows both of the lady judges and says they are very reasonable people, so hopefully it is a NON-issue.

I should ask my FIL what insurance they use, and my grandmother is in FL as well and I know she has killer insurance. Her house got damaged when a hurricane came through and she not only rebuilt but filled it with new furniture too!

I am busy trying to get my house in shape for my MIL's arrival this evening. It's the last big 'thing' before the cruise and I'll be glad to have it out of the way. Luckily I really like her!

In the last few days we finally ordered our new luggage and booked our rental car, so I think all that is left on the list is to finish up FEs and actually pack. It's crazy!

I also got a note from my OB stating my estimated due date, just in case DCL has any questions about my eligibility for being on the ship (they cut you off at 24 weeks and I will be 21), and he told me I can use meclizine/bonine AND he gave me a prescription for two different anti-nausea/vomiting meds. Start with the motion sickness stuff, but if it doesn't work and I do start throwing up I can try the other two. I was so glad to hear that! I doubt I will be seasick anyway *knock on wood* because I have been sailing which is way more motion and I was fine. But just in case!

I've been so super busy this week that I've missed you all!!

First off I'm sorry to hear for everyone's losses. It's terrible when a member of the family dies I love Grandma's and dogs are right up there as family too. I will say that when our lab passed suddenly 6 years ago it was devistating to me, Kane and Maya were so young and I was pregnant with Cole. After talking to the Vet his suggestion was that we get another puppy to help the kids grieve their loss of Ellie. Not sure if his end goal was to keep a client. :lmao: We did what he said and the kids talked to the new lab (Sadie) and told her all about Ellie and how great she was. It helped all of us.

I am also glad to be in the dark about dinner rotations too. When we go to WDW I have all the restaurants that we MUST eat at (like O'hana OMG it's so yummy!).

Oh and here's the dress that I'm wearing to Palo, we have reservations for the last night CC night. I love the little shimmer it gives off and the fabric is a rough cut so it has a wonderful frayed edge to it. Laid back but dressy perfect for me. I should post a pic of this crazy paisley dress I'm bringing too. When I saw it I thought.... WTH???? I must try this on just for a good laugh, then when I had it on it said, "take me with you!" :rotfl: I thought I could wear it to AP since I'll match all the colors at the end. I'll post a pic later.

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I just got a call & email from DCL that I got an upgrade! I can't believe it!!! We are now in a deluxe verandah cabin! I'm soooooo excited! I've had 3 really bad days in a row, so this just totally made my happy weekend! Yippy Yippy Yippy!

Cindy - I'll PM our new stateroom # shortly. :thumbsup2

Ok. I've calmed down a bit now. Whew.

I love everyone's beautiful dresses! My philosophy is so long as you look good, you're never overdressed. If someone gawks, they're just jealous. :lmao:

My idea of packing is ... how many mixes & matches can I get by without people noticing that I'm wearing the same thing more than once? And, will everyone think I'm going to a funeral b/c everything is I wear is usually black or at least matches my 1 pair of black shoes? Now that my secret's out of the bag, please don't look at me funny. I promise I will take daily showers. :hippie:

BTW - did anyone get the straight scoop on what are the dining rotations and which night(s) are semi or formal? That's the extent of my planning ... what to pack in a carryon and where to go to eat. :rotfl2:

Now, my WDW plans in Oct is a WHOLE OTHER STORY. I've got spreadsheets, mobile downloads, GPS, a novel worth of tips, etc., that I will need to sort through over the next 7 months. :scared1:

Oh, and, for those looking for good, cheap insurance that covers everything except for motorcycles ... Travelers! They rock! I've called about 10 different companies (Farmers, GEICO, All State, Progressive, USAA, etc.). Travelers, hands down, is the cheapest - by far! And, that's for everything. Yes, I actually priced out homeowners, auto, liability, etc., separately and together to see who offers the best. See, I do plan a little. Someone posted earlier about budget wise. That is SOOO me! I wouldn't consider myself stingy. I just look for all the ways I can get the best value for my dollars, tis all. :thumbsup2

Switching topic - so what's everyone doing this weekend? DH is taking me to see Cavalia, it's done by Cirque du Soleil except with horses. We'll see. I love Cirque du Soleil and I love horses, so that bodes well.

All right. Have a fantastic weekend, folks! Mine is off to a great start! :goodvibes

I have NO idea!! The only thing I did differently this time is book directly w/ DCL versus using a TA. :confused3 I think I may have to do that again next time. I may not get the $150 room credit, but the $1000 upgrade is well worth it!!

As for the dress, that's gorgeous! I say you wear that and strut!! :woohoo:

Congrats on the upgrade! Always a nice surprise!

Dress-up night (there is only one...more like a semi-formal night...on five night cruises) will be Night 3 (our day at sea). Nights 1, 2, and 3 will be the dining room regular menus, Night 4 will be Pirate Night/menu, and Night 5 should be the 'Til We Meet Again menu. Nights 1, 2, 4, and 5 should be casual (with Night 4 being Pirate optional). We have requested LAPPL as our rotation for a few reasons...we like to end our cruise in Lumiere's (Triton's if on the Wonder), and I love having Parrot Cay as our dining room on Pirate night.

No plans this weekend, other than to finish painting the bathroom (need to do the baseboard still), and hopefully finalizing FE gifts (need to bag things up).

Sounds like you have an awesome weekend ahead!

Love the dress! Anything that is colorful is a-ok in my opinion! And I think it totally works for a tropical cruise!

As for the upgrade, I don't think DCL is ever going to let that cat out of the bag. No one has yet been able to decipher how they decide. This will be our fifth Disney cruise, and we have been upgraded only once (our first, which we booked ourselves about a month before the cruise, back in 2000). My mom and I were offered an upgrade from inside to ocean view for $99 on a 3-nighter, which we took...our reservation after that still indicated our original inside category, so we had to pay that premium when we upgraded again at the port. I did book a cruise through a TA (myself! :rotfl: ) but no upgrade then either. All bookings were originally made in various categories - inside, ocean view, verandah. So, no rhyme or reason! I think we received the upgrade on the first cruise because we sailed as a family of three - we were upgraded from an inside to a Navigator's verandah. The room we were originally booked in I believe held four. Navigator's verandahs hold only three. My guess is we were bumped because we "fit" into that room, and they needed our inside for a family of four. That was the best I could figure.

I have NO idea!! The only thing I did differently this time is book directly w/ DCL versus using a TA. :confused3 I think I may have to do that again next time. I may not get the $150 room credit, but the $1000 upgrade is well worth it!!

I gave up a $200 OBC to take a FL resident rate once - oh what we do to get the best deal! :D

My family leaves for WDW in 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday I went to pick my DH up from work and a new guy that just started came out with him to say hi. 1st thing he says to my kids "Are you excited you are going to Disney World???" I quickly jumped in and said oh we are going on a cruise and then said "you're already on the crap list" :lmao: Thankfully it went right over my kids head and they just said no we are going on a cruise... that is ALL they know. Phew. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

You all were busy this week on the boards! We were gone for a very quick 36 hour trip to Hong Kong and I was behind by 3 pages!

I hear ya. I got a call Sunday that my grandmother passed away on Saturday night. I am attending the visitation and funeral tomorrow. I hate those things. My grandma had Alzheimers really bad for the past several years, so the grandma I remember has been gone a long time :(

I am glad your foot is feeling better :cool1:

I can't wait to get on the boat and have a relaxing drink with you all :woohoo:

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. My grandma had Alzheimers also. Such a hard thing.

By the way... here's a pic of the 5 of us from the Easter Egg Roll. I don't think I've shared a pic yet.

Love the picture!! Definitely a contender for a Christmas card and a canvas print!!

We sent off the paperwork yesterday for his deferment. The lady at the courthouse referred to the judge as "she" so his aunt knows both of the lady judges and says they are very reasonable people, so hopefully it is a NON-issue.

I know everywhere is different, but I got deferred and it seemed really easy. I was summoned for January and wasn't in the States. So I'm a looney tune and deferred to the week before the cruise! Their website says most only last up to a week -- some two! :confused3 Hopefully your DH can easily get deferred!

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Such a cute puppy!! When DH and I got married I wanted a big dog. When we first moved to Thailand we somehow ended up with a dog -- we were dog sitting for a family who moved and was suppose to send for their dog and different things happened and we ended up with a dog. It was a crazy dog! She was beat when she was younger by some Thai men, and so she didn't like Thai men. But we lived in Thailand! So she barked at everyone! No one ever wanted to dog sit her when we were out of town. So after that we decided no pets! We just travel too much -- like 5 weeks in the States in 8 days!

I'm proud of all of you runners!! I am just not a runner and then with whatever ails this body of mine! We walked TONS while in Hong Kong and I was completely drained for 2 days when I got home! I guess I'll just be doing a lot of relaxing on the cruise! ;)

Love everyone's dresses! I've been tempted by several I have seen online, but thought I better try on before buying! We'll see if I end up with something once we get to the States or not.

DH and I were in Hong Kong for a day and half and now are trying to finish up things before being gone for 5 weeks! DH has ended up with several meetings this week -- everyone wants to meet with him before he leaves! Even one new co-worker who lives elsewhere just decided yesterday to fly in Monday to meet with him! Then of course the last minute doctor appointments and hair appointments! Then older DD had the meltdown of meltdowns today!! She LOVED spending time with the different families she was with while we were gone, but she is a sensitive girl! Praying there aren't any of those on the cruise ship! We might get pushed overboard! :scared1:

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

My husband and dd (9) saw Cavalia a couple of weeks ago, they loved it! Camille & I opted to hang out at Chesterfield Mall :rolleyes1 Have fun!

I am totally jealous about the upgrade. Congrats :thumbsup2

I love love love this dress, and actually the other is really pretty too! I don't think it's too crazy at all, especially if you wear understated jewelry. But we're going to be in the Bahamas! I agree, wear it and STRUT. :)

Congrats on the upgrade! That is awesome. :)

My MIL is in town so we will be doing some eating out and stuff. I think tonight is Cheesecake Factory, which is up by the 'far away' mall that has an REI and a Disney Store. DH is going to get a french press mug for the cruise and I want to look for some walking sandals. I bought generic insulated tumblers but I want to check out the Disney Store to see if I like those better and maybe get DS something for an onboard or airplane ride surprise. Plus... did I mention cheesecake?!?! :woohoo:

Other than that we'll probably take a drive through the Saguaro National Forest (lots of cool cacti). It's cool and rainy today but it's supposed to get nicer. So maybe the zoo? And at some point dinner and a movie while grammy watches the kiddo. :cheer2:

She is adorable! I love the pale color of her fur, and the breed is fantastic. :)

I wish I had time to take a photography class - I feel like I'm rusty! We decided I am going to take my DSLR on the trip, and I might rent a new lens. I was bugging DH for a decent underwater camera, and in researching lens rentals, I found out I can rent it for about $30/week! Which is basically the cost of 2 disposables, so I think we'll do that. I love taking pictures but wish I was better at it. Share tips! :)

Post some pics from Hong Kong! I've never been. And what are your plans for the weeks you are in the US? Well, other than the obvious. :)

((sigh))

Tracey brought up a good question. If I'm wearing that pretty pink cocktail number, what's he gonna wear??? He doesn't have a suit. He has shirt/tie/navy sport coat/khakis. So, opinions please? The pink dress is too dressy for a sport coat & khakis, huh?

On a previous cruise, I wore a dressy black cocktail dress with rhinestone heels...the whole shebang. DH work khakis, sport coat, dress shirt (no tie), and..............Rockports! :lmao: Whatever floats his boat, is what I say!

My dad's Mickey is wrong. It was supposed to be a sailor Mickey to match my mom's. I emailed her and she apologized and said she'd fix it, but I think I'll keep it the way it is. I don't imagine my dad will care either way (they don't even know I bought this!). Aren't they great???!!!

They are so cute!!!!!!!! Maybe she could send you an appliqué that can be put on temporarily (velcro or something of the like)? No matter what, both are darling!
