so im stuck on one of the excursions. in naples i have scheduled the pompeii half day but am now thinking of switching it to the amalfi coast drive and ruins of pompeii.

The Amalfi coast is beautiful! I highly recommend you choose it.
FYI all - right where we dock is where people can catch ferries to Capri, Ischia and Sorrento. All you do is exit the cruise terminal, walk about 100 feet to your left and there you are. You buy tickets at the little building there and get right on the boat. I'm not sure when it starts, but in the high season they offer boats right to Positano and back. From Sorrento you can take a bus to the Amalfi Coast if you want.
Tickets to Capri are 16 Euros each way. I'm not sure about the price to Sorrento. When my husband and I were recently in Naples on a cruise we took the boat to Ischia and back. Total 32 Euros each.
My husband couldn't really relax because he kept panicing that we would miss the boat back and our son would be on the ship without us! A serious concern so taking the ship's excursion takes all of that worry away but you pay dearly for it. Jennifer

The only caveat to this message, Jennifer, is that our ship doesn't leave until 9:00 p.m. from Naples. I can't imagine any private tours will miss the boat!

Oh, I was reading up on other boards...they said that you cannot charge your Euro exchange to your account when you are on board the ship...you need cash or travelers checks...hope that helps someone in advance!

I'm on the 5/15 cruise but also staying at the Novotel and yes, it did open and the reviews on Tripadvisor have been good.

Does anyone know if we have character breakfasts on our cruise? If so, is that something you have to sign up for?

There are character breakfasts on 7 day or longer cruises, and you do not sign up for it, they assign you. You will receive tickets in your stateroom for this event. If you are 1st dining, you get assigned the early breakfast, and if you are 2nd dining, you get the later time. The only thing I'm not sure of is how they will do it over 3 days to accomodate everyone since we have only 2sea days.

You do have to sign up for tea with Alice - tickets are given out at guest services I believe. Its not real tea, its lemonade and cookies from what I read in trip reports. Geared for the kids but alot of adults go, even without kids.
