May 25, 2012 - Magical 8-night cruise - NYC to the Bahamas!

Oh my gosh, can't believe I didn't think to look for this thread after the one that was initially started stopped!

Please "unhold" me from the front page, we're definitely coming! Well, assuming we can pick up some decent priced flights from the UK, but hoping there will be some flight sales after Christmas.

Off to join the FE group now!

YAY!! :thumbsup2 Welcome aboard, OFFICIALLY, LadyShopper!! :welcome: I was hoping that you would be sailing with us!! :sunny: I'll go and remove the "on hold" from the first page! :surfweb:

How's everyone today?

Looks like rain here, but hasn't started yet -- just a dreary day.

Phyllis ((PPAL)) and I have been doing some clothes shopping for 'our boys'. Might as well clear out the clearance rack and get them some clothes for our trip.

Does anyone know about the dining dress code? Do they boys have to wear dress pants or will dress shorts be appropriate?

I'm off to grocery shop... eeek, being on a diet and buying food just doesn't work LOL

Enjoy the day!

Hi everyone! :wave2:

We've had a very rainy summer.... :umbrella: at least the lawns haven't burned. lol

My days of school clothes shopping are over. DSs shop for their own clothes, and only younger DS is still in school (college). I hope you found some good sales! :)

Regarding dress code, I know that people tend to be looser with the guidelines when it comes to kids, than adults. I know that your DS won't be turned away if he's wearing shorts. When we cruised when my sons were younger, they'd wear a pair of khaki pants with a polo or button down shirt. On formal and semi-formal nights they wore their suits, but they already owned suits, I didn't go out and buy them just for the cruise.

Ugh, don't mention diet. :headache: LOL I haven't really quite started yet. In 2 weeks I'll be in NJ on vacation and visiting family....so... I'm thinking that when I return, that would be a good time to get serious about a diet. Yeah. That sounds good. :rolleyes1 LOL

Has anyone booked a pre-cruise hotel yet? I booked the Marriott Marquis. I had to book it myself instead of through DCL because they wouldn't allow DH and I, and DS and DGF share 1 room even though the hotel itself would. My TA called DCL and they said they can't do it because our 4 names are listed on 2 different reservations. So....I booked it myself on the Marriott web site. It comes out less to book the 4 of us into 1 room, than to book 2 rooms through DCL. If you are only a party of 2, then the DCL rate is pretty good, compared to the hotel rate. Oh well. I figure it's part of the overall trip. I also added the DCL transfers for the hotel to port. I know that we can get a taxi cheaper, but we like the idea of letting the bus take our luggage and then we don't have to deal with it until it gets delivered to our staterooms. When I first heard that DCL was sailing from NYC, I didn't think it'd cost us as much as flying to Florida. :confused3 I realize that it doesn't have to cost this much...but... I keep making myself crazy going back and forth, considering other options.

Sorry to hear that you are laid up but I LOVE your "title".... I can see it on shirts, tote bags, etc! Maybe you should pitch it to DCL!

The Alaskan cruise was amazing! It was so beautiful - just what we saw while cruising was almost enough without even needing to take a lot of excursions. The best one we did was the cheapest - we took an $8.00 bus to the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and had an incredible day. I recommend the Alaskan cruise to everyone!

Hope you are feeling better.

Howdie everyone!!!!

I'm back!! :cool1:

I was offline due to some verizon fios difficulties... I lost phone, TV and net for 5 days. But I'm here.... They fixed it today... was here a few hours and found that during a storm we had last week that lightening must have hit the pole and fried my router and incoming lines.

Anyways, great title there..

Welcome to anyone that just joined ;)

Be well ... speak soon!

welcome back Georgette...sorry to hear about your "tech" issues.

Welcome LadyShopper - I got your PM, you are on the list, look for the next update in a week or so

I was away at D23 for the weekend...what an amazing time! Saw some friends and made some new ones.

the earthquake was interesting....luckily no damage to anything here in NJ.

Be safe everyone, weather coming our way looks nasty!

Cayla

Good thing we aren't on our cruise this weekend! Batten down the hatches, Irene is coming to New York.

I hope that everyone who is on the east coast is weathering this storm ok!! :umbrella: :grouphug:

The storm isn't supposed to hit us here (near Boston) until tomorrow, but my DS Robby and his DGF Chelsea are at the NJ shore visiting relatives. They were supposed to take Amtrak home tomorrow, but all of the trains got cancelled, so they'll be there until Tuesday. And by then, the storm will be gone from up here, too. No matter how old they get, I still worry about my kids. :guilty: In the meantime, DH and I are as prepared as we can be.

D23 looks like a fun time, Cayla! I saw some pictures and read some comments about what was going on. :sunny:

I have family in NJ and they were quite suprised to experience that earthquake!

Good thing we aren't on our cruise this weekend! Batten down the hatches, Irene is coming to New York.

We were ON a hurricane cruise in 2004. The "infamous" 10-night Hurricane cruise on the Magic. DCL handled it extremely well, but I prefer a nice drama-free experience. :upsidedow

Batten down the hatches is great advice! :sail: Be safe everyone!!! :grouphug:

Seaspray -- Can you add my Mom, her husband and my niece to the roster?

She doesn't have an ID here on the boards but I know she's participating in the fish extender. And if we have a meet and greet or whatever during our cruise, i'm sure she'll come along.

Her name is Dolores, husband is Paul and my niece is Sara.

Thanks!!!!

Sure thing! I'll go add them right now. :thumbsup2

So - friends-who-I-havent-yet-met..... I have a dilemma. My son got engaged at Christmas time. We were very happy for them and looked forward to all the excitement that goes with a wedding. After looking at many places (and finding that their favorite was booked two years ahead) they chose a location and set their date for April 29, 2012. (that's the "good news" part)

Now here's the "bad news" part (for me at least... not for them).... They recently got a call from the wedding coordinator at their first-choice place. It seems there was a cancellation for June 8, 2012 and did they want that date. Oh Yes! They sure did... it is a beautiful mountainside resort where they can have both the ceremony and the reception. They booked it and are thrilled.

However- June 8th is just 6 days after I would return from the cruise. (They have no idea that I am booked on this cruise by the way). SO now I have a big decision to make. Do I go anyways and hope for the best? Or do I cancel and be home for all the last minute things that will need to be done, and, of course have the cruise money available for all the things that will need to be bought ? Another consideration is vacation time - we already know that many out-of-state relatives and friends will be coming to the wedding, and I will want to take time off work to visit with them before/after the wedding. It's not that I dont have enough vacation time, it's just that I really can't be away from my job for several weeks all at the same time.

I was really excited about sailing out of NYC, but more excited about being on the FIRST sailing out of NYC .... so switching dates probably isn't something I would do.

Such a decision! :sad1: Any thoughts?

This is a tough dilemma to be in! But both are happy occassions, so that's good. ::yes::

If it were me, I'd have to think about whether I'd be too stressed while on the cruise, thinking of the wedding and the details and last minute things that I needed to do, to really enjoy the cruise. If you can get almost everything taken care of before you go, then maybe it'd be ok. But if there are things that can't be done beforehand, then you're probably cutting it pretty close. Not to mention all of the time off of work.

I really hope that you're able to do both, and still sail with us :boat: but it would be understandable if you decided to reschedule the cruise.

Hi everyone :wave2:

I got home on Saturday evening from a week's vacation! :sunny: Actually, it rained a couple of the days :umbrella: but I didn't care! I really needed the break from work. :surfweb: It was great to be away from every-day life, and spend time with my sister and niece and their families. :grouphug:

Anyway, I'm back now, and still can't wait for this cruise!! :yay:

My DH is making me crazy regarding the trip from MA to NYC. LOL We're currently booked at 2 different hotels in NYC for the night before the cruise, and I have DCL transfers booked (if we end up at the hotel that DCL is running busses from!); but then last night he said that he thinks it'd be better to just take a limo the morning of the cruise. :faint: Fortunately we have a lot of time to decide between now and then.

I hope everyone is doing well. I can't believe that summer is basically over already! :confused3
