May 25, 2012 - Magical 8-night cruise - NYC to the Bahamas!

I was hoping the same thing, that they'd find nice but more affordable hotels in the city. :confused3

So I emailed my TA to book a room for us at the Marriott because the pricing she gave me was much better than what the web site shows... Well, it turns out that since DS and his DGF are booked in their own cabin, DCL will not let us share a hotel room, even though the room itself sleeps 4 people. :headache:.

Now that sucks pirate: I understand that we would have to book two hotel rooms since there are 6 of us in our family, but that makes no sense for you guys. I'm sorry..very unDisney like in my opnion  On a side note..did anyone hear what airport they are flying us all into? Maybe there is hotel near the airport that we could stay in for the night before. I'm sure they will have transfers from the airport to the ship?? And after the cruise we will stay closer to the city so we can enjoy a few days. :goodvibes

Just checkin' in everyone -- Hope the summer is treating you well :)

How's everyone?

Do we have a pirate night onboard??

:scared1::scared1: Wow I would have thought that Disney would have found more family friendly, budget friendly rooms. I CAN NOT justify spending over $1000 per night for the two rooms that we need. 1 night before and 3 after the cruise would be more then one of our verdanah cabins. Thats insane :headache: Guess I will keep looking on my own...was really putting a lot of hope on Disney coming through :sad2:

Hate to be a spoil sport...in order to be in a "disney level" hotel..this is reasonable. In NYC one can spend upwards of 1500 for a 4star hotel....don't even get me started on the taxes!!! 9% PLUS a city tax....eewww.

Rumor only....JFK and busses to cross to the other side of the city - about an hour to 90 min drive (about 20 miles). They were looking into having the ship go into the Brooklyn Ship Yards, but the lack of safety in the area and lack of ANYTHING nearby shut that one out. I am just happy they went wiht Manhattan. I plan on going to Jersey City the morning of the first time the ship comes in and taking lots of photos...now to find a friend to drive my truck home from NYC.

Whew....I am very sorry I have been absent from the boards for the last 8 weeks or so....my classes for the summer are finally over (:worship::worship:)
If I ever say I am doing summer classes again - please toss me overboard!! 3 papers due every weekend...2 with 48 hours notice of the topic/content. UGH :(

ok that having been said....I have been receiving PM's for new additions to the lists. I have updated them and will be uploading them before the night is over. I plan on making another post with the links.

I would like to say WELCOME to everyone who is joining us!!!

in regards to passports - please be careful, the rules are changing rapidly. You may not need a passport to leave the country but most likely will need some type of proof of residency to return!! For land/rail/sea border crossings the passport card will suffice. And yes, leaving and returning to the same port is easier, but still may require ID more than a drivers' license. I am pretty sure that by 2012 one will need a passport to fly domestically.

I have some feelers out about the dining rotation and fireworks, but no good answers yet. I may have more infomation after I am on the Dream in November.

Once September starts, I will once again be busy until Dec 20...then full steam ahead with cruise planning!!!! Keep those PM's coming - the more the merrier!!

Here is the most current FE list:

https://spreadsheets0.google.com/sp...RFVWJPYUFlTVE&hl=en_US&authkey=CMC00osD#gid=0

I have added two columns - that show how many days out we are "locking" the FE list, and the number of cabins or groups people are "voting" for.

For those who are lurking or haven't decided if they are going to join in the fun...this is a great way to meet folks and to enjoy little gifts from other cruisers.

If you would like to join in...PM me the following information:

Dis Name
real world name
cabin #
who is sailing with you
children's ages (if applicable)
and any special requirements such as allergies or restrictions

also vote on:
how many days before we sail are we "locking" the list to finalize the count
30 or 60?

should we keep it as ONE single group or split it?
if split - how many cabins in each group

I have been collecting email addresses - but since I put it on Google docs...I really do not need one- unless you want me to email you the excel file (I use Excel 2007 so it is a *.docx if you need it as *.doc then please let me know)

Ok, next year on the cruise I will ask you if you're planning any summer courses....so beware! pirate: LOL

Thanks for the info on passports. Our family always travels with passports, but I think that DS's passport just expired (he was under 16 the last time we renewed it, so it was only good for 5 years), so he'll need to renew his again, and I have to check mine, I think it expires some time next year.

Ooh... you have feelers out for info?! Alright!! See what you can find out! We're the first sailing, as you know, so the more info we can get, the better! :yay:

Thanks again for handling our FE lists!! :fish:

Thanks again Sea for all your hard work!!!

My friend Phyllis and her family is now on board! wohooooo! :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

I'm in the process of looking up some directions for the fish extenders..
I'm pretty crafty so I have to start buying supplies.

I'm looking forward to participating in that - my daughter will love it! :hippie:

.. bought all my supplies today for the fish extender... I don't sew well, I have a machine but won't use it LOL ;)

I'm off to find directions now! :)

How is your fish extender coming out?? I don't know what I'm going to do about the actual fish extender, but I'll probably end up asking someone else to make it for me because I'm not that handy with fabric/sewing. :upsidedow

Mornin'.

Merchandise is bought but no clue what I'm doing - I have time mind you like you said, 43 weeks LOLLLL

I'm deciding on pocket depth and size, etc.

I'm crafty enough - but HATE sewing - my machine is collecting dust in the attic!! ;)

Well you just lost 2 weeks because it's 41 weeks from today! :goodvibes

DS's DGF's mother is very crafty and she sews, too... so I'm either going to ask her to make one for me (and she'd probably make one for DS and DGF, too), or I'll order one from someone online. :scratchin

Sorry sorry --- no coffee yet -- 41! 41! :)

Hi Everyone :)

Trying to forget about the rainy weather here in NY so I am passing the day away with a great cup of coffee and reading all these great threads about Disney Cruising!!!! This will be my first Disney Cruise and we are more than excited, especially since we will be sharing it with our dear friends. Not sure if I should do the fish extender??? my son is 20. Are there any other fun things to do to get into the Disney Crusing Experience?? All suggestions are welcome :yay:
