May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

I was always planning to take a cab, but I'm adding my 2 pennies anyway...again. :goodvibes I just find it interesting that of my 4 times planning a DCL vacation this is the first for me that is full of confusion. Between Canada Place/Ballantyne, shuttle/no shuttle, and even the formal night/no formal night, etc there is just too much conflicting information. I'm really hoping when the time comes DCL will have ironed it out by getting the correct information out to everyone and (as mentioned a few pages ago) hopefully have a CM at Canada Place directing misguided people to Ballantyne. And hopefully again the frustration levels and headaches of all the passengers will be in the low range because they will have gotten the correct information out. Especially because not everyone sailing researches and joins meet groups like we do, so I imagine there are still cruisers who may have no idea NOT to go to Canada place. I know if I wasn't part of this group, hadn't gotten the letter addressed to my TA and hadn't done my own research, I definitely would have gone to Canada Place because my booklet from DCL STILL says Canada Place and not Ballantyne. I am so grateful to have this group (and other message board sites and cruise groups likes this) to compare information with. :grouphug: I anticipate those that don't will have a lot to figure out in a short amount of time.

Sorry. The vision this put in my head is just funny to me. :happytv:

I think the fact that this is a 9 night rather than the typical 7 night Alaska cruise is what makes this a little more confusing (and the fact it is the first of the season for DCL in Vancouver). DCL uses Canada Place BUT their ships are always in on Mondays so this doesn't conflict with any of the other cruiselines schedules. However, since we are doing 9 nights and leaving on a Saturday there were already 2 big ships scheduled for Canada Place (Holland and Princess always leave on Saturdays) so we were designated to Balantyne.

For me that explains a lot of the "why" and makes sense. But I'm too nice and already feel bad for people I've never even met. :goodvibes And if they wind up missing the ship I never will meet them.

It's just if every passenger does not know what's going on and the conflicting information being told is not resolved there could be a lot more problems on the day than whatever their normal quota of problems is.

Here's hoping communication gets squared away for everyone's sake. :hippie:

:hyper: Watching the Port of Miami webcam as the Wonder leaves for the PC crossing towards her way to the West Coast!!!:surfweb:

Bon Voyage!! :wave2:

3 weeks until she's in Vancouver! :banana::banana:

Agreed! My documents all said Balantyne, but I've heard others say that theirs has Canada Place. Not good!:confused3

I just read the latest documentation that came to me from Disney. It says under the Table of Contents, under the Important Communications section:

"Complimentary motorcoach transportation will be provided to Ballantyne Cruise Terminal from Canada Place Cruise Terminal"

To me, this is clear cut documentation that buses will be taking people from Canada Place to Ballantyne.

It's not clear to me. The sentence before talks about parking at Canada Place. In other words, if you park at Canada Place you will be provided complimentary shuttle service, which coincides with what DCL CMs are telling us. :confused3

This is what I found on the website for our reservation.

Air & Ground Transportation
Air and Ground Transfers for U.S. Travelers Sailing to Alaska

Guests embarking on a Disney cruise to Alaska will fly into Vancouver International Airport and then take a motor coach to the Canada Place Cruise Terminal.

NOTE: For the 5/24/14 sailing, the ship will dock at the Ballantyne Cruise Terminal.

Only 21 days left. Yay!!!

Hopefully everybody goes back to look at their reservation.

It got to 102 degrees today in Phoenix. Bring on the 50-70s!

I'll trade you... It's snowing and below freezing in Calgary with at least 2 inches of snow on the ground :scared: I'd like spring now please!

It's been in the mid 60s (F) in Anchorage, AK this week! I hope this is a good omen for our cruise!

Looking forward to the weather in Alaska.

We've had beautiful weather this weekend. Today was 88 degrees. But the start of it wasn't to good. After the storms that raged thru there last week, we went to our lake house and had a big surprise waiting for us. But it could have been worse, just an inconvenience. Thankful this is all it was.

It's official...the Wonder is on her way to the West Coast....we are definitely in the count down. The excitement in our house is overwhelming. Now we just have to stay focused and get the kids done with school/final exams (their last day is 5/22) and then we head to Vancouver that night.

I'm trying to finish up the school year with my kids as well. We are almost done chapter 11 of 14 in Anatomy and Physiology. 2 more weeks and I keep telling them we just have to push through..I hope I can stay focused.

Glad it wasn't the house instead. :thumbsup2

Going to be a couple of crazy weeks here - not sure how much time I have to check in before leaving - thanks to free dining. :dance3:

Just checking - we are meeting at the Promenade Lounge at 3:00 before the muster drill?
