May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

We received one set of docs last night!!:cool1:
Hopefully that means the second set will be here next week!
(We have two ressies because one is on DVC pts).

I decided I could not live in an "inside" stateroom and wanted to have at least a window for Alaska... So I just went back to GTY status, and now have to wait longer to find out what room I get.

I hope I get a good one, but at least one with a giant window for the great views.

YAY!! I know it is a longer wait, but I am sure it will be worth it :goodvibes

I don't think you will be sorry that you made the change. :)

cruise documents arrived today - makes it even closer now

Mine came on Friday. We did the Happy Dance when I pulled the recognizable envelope out of the mail box.:banana:

I don't blame you. Hope you get a good one too. :thumbsup2

I can't live without a window either, but that's because I get sea sick. I learned the hard way on my last cruise a window is a must. I didn't think I would have trouble because I was hardly in my room, but at the times I was I could feel every movement. I was miserable trying to pack for home on the last day and couldn't eat hardly any of my dinner.

I also learned I must have a split bathroom (but that's because we are high maintenance girly girls) princess:princess: :rotfl:

I don't think you will regret it. I think my family will be living in our room:rolleyes: Oh well

We had an inside room when we cruised HI with another line. I wonder if that was part of the problem:confused3 Never thought about it. I know I felt it when DCL docked. I felt it bad in HI but thought it was just cause the boat was closer to land. I'm kinda worried about this one.

Split baths are a must.

Having sailed Alaska in the past, and also having had a room on Deck 1 with two small portholes I can say you definitely want at least the large window. I hope you get your wish.

When I booked on opening Dayan 11c. I couldn't justify the cost of windows let alone veranda despite REALLY wanting to see outside on this cruise. When VGT opened up, it was all downhill for me! Still don't know how much time we will spend in our room but maybe a little more here and there than before.

Has anybody noticed that the cruise documents say nothing about our cruise leaving from Ballantyne?

I mentioned this on the FB page yesterday too. I've been so completely busy that I can't keep my head on straight and remember to get both places. Also the Pixar party isn't listed in the doc like it is online. My docs said printed as of April 7 and I don't remember when all that info came out but I swear it was before the 7th.

I will BET that they will have many people lost come May 24 at this point.

I noticed that too. I guess that is why they sent out an email about leaving from Ballantyne and when you go to your reservation online it tells you about leaving from Ballantyne under the "Air and Ground Transportation" section.

But, if you didn't see any of that where else would you find out about leaving from Ballantyne (other than here on DIS)?

I just hope nobody misses the boat! :worried:

I never got an email. I wonder about the guests who aren't on the DISboards and don't look back online (it is mentioned there). They are going to be in for a bit of a surprise when they show up at Canada Place and there is no Wonder there to greet them. I wouldn't want to be the DCL CM when that happens.

Once on board I discovered something about the wave phones that I didn't see in any of the posts, so thought I'd share.

Many posters have commented/complained that you can only charge one phone at once, when in fact there are two ways to keep multiple phones charging at the same time.

Method 1: Spare Battery Charging Slot:

Behind the main charging slot you will find another small slot with a thin metal strip on top. If you pull the battery out of the second phone and slide it in that little slot, underneath the metal strip, you will see a light go on and it will start charging. Works great for overnight charging of two phones.

Method 2: Micro-USB port

If you look at the phone and the charger in detail, you'll see that everything is powered by USB power and micro-USB ports. This is the same port type used to charge most non-Apple phones, Kindles, etc. With power strips now outlawed and outlets limited I just brought two of the Anker 5-port USB chargers that others have recommended here (these are handy at home too), along with plenty of cables. So with 10 USB charging ports at our disposal there was no problem keeping wave phones fully charged. If someone wanted to free up an extra outlet, they could charge both phones this way and get rid of the bulky charger altogether.

On a side note, we used the wave phones often since we were traveling with another family, but like others found them a little dated and clumsy to use. But they got the job done. With the Navigator App now available on all the ships and WiFi coverage pretty good, I see no reason why they couldn't just integrate text and talk into the app, which would eliminate the need for wave phones all together.

Hope this is helpful! Sorry I couldn't post links or photos to make it clearer.

I got mine yesterday, for both cruises, but didn't have time to go through them, so I didn't notice. I sure hope they have a Disney representative at Canada Place that is directing people to Ballantyne. Can you imagine getting there and not seeing the ship at the pier and wondering what the heck is going on?

Just finished reading the other threads, and I see we were thinking alike.

You have to read closely but it's on page 10 of the travel booklet. It's in bold mid page and says " Port of Vancouver address for 5/24 voyage ... ". There was an email I think that had more information that included the times for the shuttle from Canada Place to Ballantyne

Maybe because I went though a TA and may because my TA retired a couple of months ago, but I never received the email. Luckily, somebody posted the content on our meet thread.

I found a mention of how to get to the Ballantyne pier and parking at Canada Place at the end of "The Table of Contents." Makes sense to me. I don't know why our documents would be different, but my documents say nothing about the pier change for the 5/24 sailing as you described.

Under sailing details it does mention Embarkation Port: Port of Vancouver. Would anybody know that wasn't Canada Place?

I really don't know why I'm worrying about this. We know where we are supposed to be and that is all that matters in the end. :goodvibes

I got another letter from DCL last weekend - basically the same one from a couple months ago when we first learned about the change with a little more detail. It talked about the shuttle service from Canada Place (starts at 10:30). So even if people show up at the wrong pier - they should be fine...
