May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

And I would like to meet up before school is out. I attend Scottsdale so Im half way there. School ends the first week of May.
Maybe we could do something the last week of April?
Come on AZ, I know there are others!

I'm still in for this. :thumbsup2 It only takes me 1hr 15 mins to get to Sky Harbor from where I am in Tucson. So Scottsdale is no problem and Chandler of course is closer.

I agree to do it while it's still April and I'm halfway good with the last weekend as I am working on Saturdays and my daughter has a music festival on the last Saturday of April. But I could do Sundays if you are able to or possibly a weeknight if my daughter doesn't have an activity. If not I don't want to old anything up so if I don't make it, meet without me and I'll see you on the ship. :goodvibes

If we could plan something the weekend of April 25-27, that would be ideal. We need to find some place off the 101 that is easily accessible. Trying to think of a good restaurant that we could meet at.

We're hoping to upgrade at the port too. Never done it before so I have no idea how successful that will be. At the moment we have two inside rooms which is fine, but if we could at least get a porthole room that would be better. We honestly dont spend a huge amount of time in the rooms, but I know the kids would like to be able to watch the scenery go by a little bit.

Aha! This is post #7 BUT I submitted another request to the FB group (it showed up!), so maybe I won't have to add any more posts without merit tonight! But while I am posting (and this could be #8, but oh well), let me ask you all - have you ever had success upgrading at the port? Is it the same as if we had upgraded originally, or can there be a savings from waiting until check-in? I have tried to find some other threads about upgrades, but haven't found any answers yet. Thanks!

DH and I upgraded at the port on our first cruise we were on a Mexican Riviera cruise on the Wonder and upgraded from an 11c GTY which was assigned an 11b cabin to a navigator's verandah for $350 it was about $1000 to upgrade before the cruise and I would have been willing to pay up to $550 for it but when they told us the price we were like "SOLD!"

So it can be a much better deal than upgrading before the cruise but you are at the mercy of what is available. DH and I plan to upgrade to at least an ocean view room at the port unless they assign us an OV for our IGT room ;)

I'm not seeing anything! Ack. It is secret group so I'm not sure if you got the right cruise? I'm sorry! Pm me though. You are almost there!!!!

You got it (or I was let in); thank you! Yahoo!! And now that I'm in…I'll probably lurk, ha! But maybe I'll feel like I have something important to say at some point. But I'm legit, promise :)

BTW, I am almost to 10 posts. This is more posts to anything social that I've done in the last 5 years, ha!

We tend to bring people out of their shells.:dance3: Or send them away screaming.:lmao:

I emailed the travel agent to check but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. I found some info on the DU site that one way transfers are $35pp. Does anyone know if that info is current and if the charge applies to children under 3 as well (I wasn't sure since most excursions I've booked don't charge for babies). Thanks!

DCL transfers are $50 roundtrip (Vancouver airport to cruise terminal/cruise terminal to Vancouver airport) or $25 each way. I am not sure if they charge for children under 3.

We're trying to figure out getting to the airport. It looks like a cab is about $40. Canada Line is about $5 per person, but then you're lugging luggage along...

We looked into the ground transfers, and there was no charge for our 2 year-old.

Thanks for the info! Last time we were in Vancouver after the LA-Vancouver cruise, we took a cab because the hotel was so close but we had to wait around for a bit a the port and have someone call a different cab for us because the ones lined up were all too small to accommodate luggage + stroller in the trunk. I think $75 for the 4 of us may be worth it this time if it means less waiting around with 2 little kids.

Do you guys know if taking the DCL transfer means that we don't have to pick our luggage up at the port and it is already put on the bus(?) for us or sent to the airport? I know they send some luggage to the airport but wasn't sure if that was just for booking flights through Disney too.

You will still have to claim your bags and go through customs. Your bags will go on the bottom of the bus to the airport with you. DCL is not doing the onboard check-in service for Vancouver.

In case anybody is wondering. Here are the berth assignments for the Wonder for our cruise. (Thanks to Kesstral on the Alaska CC board for consolidating this info).

I'm good for 6p or later on the 25th or pretty much anytime on the 27th. Not available at all on the 26th. Off the 101 is fine with me and I'm not picky about where. The only place I've met people is one of the restaurants in AZ Mills or a Starbucks so I'm no help in suggesting anywhere.

Wow that's awesome info! I was only able to find the names of the other ships at each port (But then again I never thought to look for a port map as well) Thanks for sharing. :goodvibes

Hi! Just sent both of you pm's!:hippie:

Sweetlovin, we are with you. Eiher you are as crazy as we are or you are running from us :rolleyes1 This trip may just bring out some extra crazy. I wish to apologize in advance for the crazy table neighbors:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thank you for the dock info

Anyway, the whole reason for this post before I got distracted:rolleyes1

Do we tip in Canada? Tip the bellhop, cabs..... Just wondering if I should have some cash before hand.
Thanks

I would have extra Canadian dollars just in case. I think I am going to tip the cruise CMs with American dollars, but cabs, and luggage crew, probably Canadian dollars.

Canadian culture with tipping is basically identical to America's culture. Tipping bellhops, cab drivers or anyone else you typically would do in America should be extended to Canada as well. Also, in general, it is considered much more appropriate to tip in Canadian cash rather than American cash.
