May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

Hi again!

Just popping in for a quick catch up and to update the FE tally. My daughter's graduation and prepping for our Med Cruise next week took ALL of my free time. We leave Tuesday and there's still so much to do! :scared1:

Bit of a latecomer here, But my DW (Rachel) & I just booked this cruise using our DVC points. Somewhere on Deck 5 IIRC..............

Just returned from a "weeker" on the Fantasy and have been infected (again) with MDC disease (Manic Disney Cruiser). Only a year to go!

:cheer2: WELCOME!!! You've joined the right group. My name is MoonDaughter23 and I also suffer from MDC. :rotfl2:

In regards to the Sunset issue, I looked it up on line.

Thanks for sharing this!

I know, I sure hope we are able to dock there. I understand that not many cruise ships are able to get into the port due to the ice, so we will have to keep our fingers crossed that it works for our sailing. :thumbsup2

This would be a total bummer. Definitely keeping fingers crossed.

Happy to say we booked this cruise on the dream last week. We will be in cabin 7010, not sure who is doing Fe but there ya go :) Was great seeing mosseau mob and family a few weeks ago and looking forward to cruising with them and other board members :)

Got it! Thanks for the update!

Thanks for sharing the link!

Sharing some pic's and yes silly boy had people stopping to get photo's of and with him, he did a better job this time with the makeup and fake facial hair. LOL!!!!

Great Pics! They look fantastic!

Hi guys!! So sorry I've been MIA. Crazy has happened but I hope to be back soon. I know I have quite a bit of updating and reading to do. Less than a year!!!

Welcome back! How was your cruise? Sorry Crazy has happened. Hope it doesn't last long for you. I'm getting over Crazy myself. Just in time for my cruise. I was worried I would have to cancel or be on the ship worried the whole time. I'm so glad it all came together.

Ok everybody. I'll check back in around the end of the month (or maybe beginning of next month) when we return. Then it's ALL ABOUT ALASKA!!!:woohoo::banana::woohoo::banana:

This is the second time we have booked Alaska, the first morphed into a Panama Cruise in 2011. The main reason we rebooked was because the ONLY port I most want to go to is Sitka! We almost settled for another cruise line but patience got the better of us. When Sitka was announced it only took 10 minutes to decide. We booked in the first 5 minutes of open reservations for Platinum!! Yeah!!!

Enjoyed reading your email. FYI: there are two other families joining you who were also on the Panama Canal cruise in 2011. Small world (after all - has a familiar ring to it). My brother Vince and I are one; can't say the other as yet since I don't have permission to do so.

I've been waiting patiently :rolleyes1 for the Navigators to come out. Now that someone has started to post them. I don't know why I looked for them.

7 vs 9 night, I think there is going to be a differance :upsidedow

Just trying to figure out when to schedule Palo Brunch so I can get family in on it, don't really want to do that on formal night.

Less than 1 yr to go :dance3:

Did you see the DCL Blog post of Navs? Hopefully this works? I posted it on the FB page, too.

Hi again!

You will have a fabulous time on your Med trip! I can't WAIT to hear about it and see the pics. This is totally on our radar maybe for 2015...we shall see! I just wish they went sometime other than summer. I HATE the heat hahaha :crazy2:

Our first cruise ( my VERY first cruise) in 2005 was the EBPC, I picked that one as it was the longest (14nts) with the least amount of ports (5 - I think) as I wanted to maximize ship time which is why we were going in the first place. LOVED IT...... :cloud9: (even with going thru Hurricane Hillary in the Pacific which canceled a port).

The first leg of this MAMAW cruise will be 15. Of those, only 2 were separate 4 nighters... 4 other 3/4nts were B2B to make them week long, 4 were 14 nts (well 13/14 were 7nt B2B) the rest were 7 nts....

I love the longer cruises and would live on the ship if I could. Never have gotten bored on the ship, had downtime that to some may have looked boring (watching tv in the room) but then I do not get the Disney Channels so WhooHoo... I will still be very sad to get off the ship after Alaska..

My only wish was that this MAMAW would be on the Fantasy (my fav ship) but there is no way the Fantasy would fit through PC and possibly even Alaskan areas.

Just read your post and have to comment. I, too, was on the EBPC in 2005 and just now home for a week after the EBTA on the Magic. During this cruise we had seas between Madiera and Gibraltar that were much like that on the Magic during Hurricane Hillary. What a ride and the Magic performed admirably.

Starting to find trip reports from the first Alaskan sailing for this year. I don't think she is going to have pictures, but here is a link if you are interested:

If I find more I will post the link to them as well.

eta: She does have pictures now.

I started reading her TR. Love getting as much info as possible. My OCD kicking;)

Thank you. I am going to have to read thru it and see what info I can learn;) Hopefully, things won't change tooooo much:rolleyes:

MoonDaughter, hope you have a good time with graduation and your Med Cruise!!!

Hey guys, Wendy so kindly made me aware that some info on the 1st thread is very much wrong in regards to the PIF date. I even double checked by starting to book a "fake" trip on the DCL site. It appears since the cruise originates out of country, the PIF date is 120 days out and not the standard 75. I am going to change this, but does anyone know how it affects when you can book excursions etc? I am silver and I think that my stuff says we can book on Feb 23 (I think that is the date off the top of my head).

Would love more help to make sure we have the right info for people! Thanks Wendy! :worship:

:flower3: Aah, thanks!

Your booking dates do not change, those are dictated by your CC status.

We're back! Had a bit of excitement with 2 tornado's in New Orleans and torrential rain and flooding in Key West, but all in all a GREAT time was had by all.

I have a question about Paid in Full date. I booked this cruise online and my PIF date was originally March 10th. After booking online (to get the discount and OBC) my PIF is now Jan 24th. When I asked my TA why the change, she said she asked DCL and they said when DCL sails from a foreign port (Vancouver) the PIF date is 120 days. So my question is, does everyone have Jan 24th as their PIF? Does anyone know if this is some new rule that was implemented?

:scratchin Interesting. My paperwork (I booked via phone with DCL and transferred to TA) shows March 10, 2014 as my PIF date. However, cruise cancellation fees begin on January 25, 2014.

We booked with AAA and Jan 24 has always been our PIF date.

Since we're Silver CC members, we will be paying in full before March 10th. However, my AAA paperwork has a March 4th PIF date and my DCL paperwork still has March 24th. But, as I mentioned, cancellation fees start 120 days out on January 25th.

We also booked back in February, if that makes a difference.

MouseauMob and Katiefried, are you Platinum CC members?

OK GEEEEZ I am so slow!! Ya'll had this convo weeks ago....DUH!!!! :rolleyes1

I have updated the info in the first thread. Anyone have an idea what I should say regarding the PIF date (in the section for when people can book stuff). I'm so confused :scared:

Links should be updated too, I hope they work. Did I miss anything? I sort of fly through the posts when doing the updates and I am sure I miss things.

I have also (I believe) gotten the cabin list updated. If I missed anyone or you have new info like room numbers please let me know! I won't take info off the google doc, that way people can not be so "out there" on the first thread if they do not want to be. Again, please let me know of any changes.

Sorry for being so spacey lately. Honestly I can't wait for this trip! I think about it all the time (yup even more than our WDW trip in October!). I did notice there seems to be some new excursions listed since we booked this trip on opening day. I know they won't put any Sitka stuff up yet, but can't they tease us?

I don't know if anyone is checking out current DIS threads about the Alaska trips this year. Word about the Pixar party seems to be it is still a fluid thing. I guess originally it started out being only at 10:15pm! :scared1: Ok for us on the East Coast, that is 2:15am! :scared1::scared1::scared1: Seriously, no way is my kid who will be 5 gonna make that! But it sounds like they have added on an earlier party at 4:15, so now 2 parties 4:15 and 10:15. :woohoo: I noticed that also someone said it was on semi-formal night on their cruise. So many people "dressed up" for Pixar night with Pixar character shirts that it seemed to un-semi-formal the night (if that is a word :rotfl: ). Just some info on the matter, but hopefully DCL is figuring out the kinks before we hop on board!

Time to look at the excursions again ;) I would love a tease about Sitka. I know either you or someone else shared a link about Sitka on another but I don't want to get my hopes up, know what I mean :goodvibes

I have been trolling the TRs. So far not too impressed with the Pixar Party. Glad they added an additional time but just a "Meet and Greet". From the pics I saw, it really does not look too impressive. We probably will go just to get pics of the characters and cause I have DS who would want to see them :rolleyes2

I can't wait to see TracyArm. I am really hoping that we will be able to get in and there won't be too many icebergs. The pictures I have seen are beautiful.

Hi everyone!

:cool1:DH an i have just booked on this cruise and will be joining you all
We are doing a B2B with the California coast cruise. Look forward to meeting you all.

It is me - Shelley and DH - Carl :wave2:

Anyone started looking at waterproof/water resistant jackets yet? I found one today at the Columbia outlet, but will probably return. It is waterproof, but I would love to have one with some vents or a zipper under the arms for some ventilation. I am also looking for pooh sized as I want something that will fit over a fleece, probably a long sleeve shirt of some kind and who knows what else. :lmao:

I would love to hear what you guys might be finding out there.

If you have any other great finds to share, please do tell. :goodvibes

Actually, my DH just bought one from the Columbia outlet that had zip out vents under the arms. You might want to look at the men's jackets. They should be big enough to wear a fleece under.

Funny you say that as the sales person suggested the same thing, and I did check those out today as well, just couldn't find a color I liked on me. But if I take the one I got back, I may have to reconsider.

I have an LLBean shell that I used in Seattle that seemed to work, but I want to get a Columbia jacket for myself. I decided to wait to see if they come out with new colors next season. I really didn't like the colors for this year myself.

I have not started looking. Gotta survive the summer:rolleyes:

Gonna work long distance with sis to plan a family tee and surprise DD with it :rotfl: for the reveal:upsidedow Fingers crossed sis knows someone who can/will print a hidden Mickey tee for me off the books :rolleyes1

As I can see from disneyfaninaz, I got 11 months to go :scared: Better get a move on it, not much time left :rotfl2:

I keep reading someone has created a FB account for our cruise. We had one for the EBTA cruise last month and it was very helpful. Will someone please send me the URL for the FB account?

Ray

There is a lot to catch up with here!! I'll get some time to catch up. Not sure if we'll join the FE yet - it would be our first one and I still can't decide. I will though.

From what I have read so far looks like we're cruising with a great bunch of people :woohoo:
