May 21, 2012 - Mickey's Mooseketeers Take Alaska 2012!

Our daughters have started looking at excusions. They want to do a zipline trip. They are many to choose from. Any suggestions for past cruisers?

I don't know, but I know this trip report talked about the one they did last year. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2768852 Maybe it'll help!

Just moved to the May 21st cruise! Can't wait! This will be our second Alaska cruise with Disney because last year was so fun we need to do it again!

Welcome!! It looks like you went in May last year, can you help? I'm having a hard time getting my brain around weather/temps and what to wear.

Does anyone have any info on the process in Vancouver. Like is it security THEN check in, or check in then security?

Does Disney decorate the terminal?

I typed this information up in an email just for my own curiosity, but since it applies to all of us on this particular cruise, I thought I would share in case anyone else was interested:

"I was curious about what other ships we might be sharing ports with and how crowded things might be, so I looked it up. It looks like our Skagway day will be fairly crowded. 3 other big ships in port at Skagway at the same times as us. The other days are less so. I got interested since I was reading books and they were all saying how the towns jump from 900 people to 10,000 when ships pull in, and thinking that we will be competing for excursions and museum space and shopping peace and quiet with not just our own ship, but 2 or 3 or 4 other big boats. So here is what I found out:

Vancouver: We are the only ship in the port of Vancouver on Mon, May 21. The Wonder is scheduled to be in Vancouver starting at 6am the prior day (Sun, May 20th).

Tracy Arm: There are three ships visiting Tracy Arm on Wed, May 23, but the other two are in the morning and we are in the afternoon. Meaning we can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and a morning activity on the ship, then enjoy the afternoon watching the glacier and navigating the passage (as opposed to the other two ships where the height of their in-the-passage time is 7 or 8am - that's an early morning!). So, the Star Princess (capacity 2600) is in Tracy Arm from 6am to 10am, and the Diamond Princess (capacity 2670) is in Tracy Arm from 8am to 1pm. We (the 2400 capacity Disney Wonder) have Tracy Arm to ourselves from 1pm to 6pm.

Skagway: The most crowded day. There are 4 total ships (3 other than ours) in port at Skagway on Thu, May 24. 2600 passenger Star Princess from 6am to 5pm, 1970 capacity Coral Princess from 7am to 8:30pm, and 1258 passenger Statendam from 7am to 9pm. So it looks like there will be a higher likelihood of things being busy and/or sold out earlier here. Hopefully, we are early enough in the season that all these ships won't be at capacity, so the total # of people won't be nearly so high. But it could be pretty crowded all day everywhere in Skagway.

Juneau: There are two other ships in port at Juneau on Fri, May 25, and neither are the super big ones (yay!). The 1970 passenger Coral Princess is docked from 6:30am to 4pm, and the 1440 passenger Volendam is docked starting at 1pm till 10:30pm. Since the first one of those leaves mid-afternoon (3:30 all aboard time for passengers), and the second doesn't even arrive till 1pm, there is realistically only competition from one ship at a time for most of the day. So, especially in the morning or after 3pm, it shouldn't be too crazy busy here.

Ketchikan: There are two ships in port in Ketchikan on Sat, May 26, and again, neither are the super huge 2600 people ones (although the timing of them is closer to our timing, so we will be with them most of the day rather than only some of the day like Juneau). The 1950 passenger Sea Princess is in port from 7am to 3pm (meaning probably all-aboard is 2:30, so they leave 2 hours before us, that's nice). And the 1970 passenger Coral Princess (who we have now shared port with the past 3 days as well) is at Ketchikan from 10am to 6pm.

Seattle: We are the only ship docked in Seattle at all on Mon, May 28. I know that ships contribute very little to the busyness of Seattle, especially on Memorial Day, but at least the port won't be too crazy with other ships discharging passengers or competing for taxis or buses."

Hopefully this info is as interesting to some of you as it was to me!

We'd been looking for this... thank you so much for posting! :wizard:

Thanks! I don't know why - but this post suddenly makes the cruise feel very real to me. I mean, I know it's coming but suddenly it's not this trip way out in the future. It's this year and almost here! (well, 4 1/2 months can be almost here, can't it?)

Don't we depart on Monday, May 21? For some reason, I think this is a Monday to Monday trip.
Barbara:confused3

We do depart on Monday the 21st :thumbsup2

I've been trying to make excursion decisions since we'll be able to book on 1/22 if we want to. Am I blind, or is there no way to see excursions specific to our cruise? I can find the generic Port Adventures section (which does have prices, so that's nice), but I am wondering about times. We may want to do a couple excursions in the same port. I'm hoping someone will tell me I'm just missing this and not that I have to wait until we're able to book to be able to see the times!

Whoops! You are totally right. The rest of the days are right, though, right? I just saw that the Wonder was in the port of Vancouver on Sunday, May 20th and stopped looking. I should have noticed it was the wrong date when there was no departure time!

Fixing that, we are now the only ship in Vancouver at any point on Monday, May 21st. I will go back and edit/fix that now. Sorry!!

We finally got our day planned for one of the ports (now only two more ports, and Vancouver and Seattle, and our vow renewal to go... :rotfl:). In Skagway we're going to do the Carcross, Yukon and Emerald Lake tour with Dyea Dave. Assuming the weather cooperates, we'll take the train back from Fraser to Skagway at the end of the tour. And then depending how tired we are when we get back to Skagway we might do his Dyea tour, as well. Still have a lot more planning to do but it feels good to have one day taken care of!

Thank you for the info. We are on the cruise prior to this and we are in Vancouver overnight so the guests will be departing the morning this cruise embarks.

You will not be able to see the times until your window opens to book. SInce you get in before most of us - please share if you find anything interesting. :)

Don't they know I need to obsessively plan everything?! :) If anyone has any specific questions about times or anything, I'll be happy to look for them on the 22nd!

We booked our Vancouver hotel today. We'll be at the St. Regis for two nights before the cruise. Feels good to check another thing off! Although I remembered today I still need to book our flights home from Seattle. I think there's some subliminal not wanting to leave thing going on there ;)

So I got distracted by real life :) Our 3rd daughter, Hailey Lynn, was born on Christmas Eve at 8:22pm. She was 6lb, 11oz and 18 3/4inches long.

Thought we should join the group as we are cruising along with you all to Alaska!
We are dad - 41, mom - 40, DS - 9, and DD - 8 (turning 8 3 days before we sail!).
This is our second Disney cruise; the first was a 3 night on the Wonder a week after DD turned 5 - she of course thinks that the cruises are for her birthday!
I am so excited to be cruising again!
