May 2014 Discout Watch

We've opted for the DxDP this trip. We always do the dining plan but this will be the first with the DxDP. We have a character breakfast scheduled every morning of our trip except one. We are doing a Fantasmic dinner pkg. and a coke signature dinner. I can't wait to experience all of the restaurants we haven't tried before

We had the deluxe the last time we went. This is only our second time going. We can only afford the regular 1 table service plan and we are fine with that. Last time there was almost too much food. We are going to have to pay for a couple of table meals out of pocket but that's fine. We got reservations everywhere we wanted so we are happy. Now if free dining came out we may just upgrade to the deluxe. Although I don't see that happening for our May dates.

We are not doing the dining plan. We are big breakfast and lunch eaters but we eat a light supper most of the time I skip supper. My kids share meals and my 9 year old and I usually share because she don't like to much on the kids meal. I've done the math and for us and the way we eat it's better to pay out of pocket.

After a 4 year hiatus, we are back to the world to celebrate my DD HS graduation. Of all the places in the world to go, where is the one place that the whole family has been dying to get back to? But of course WDW. Love the place and glad we started taking the girls when they were wee little because they keep wanting to go back year after year no matter how old they get. :grouphug:

That is what we did last time we went and what we are doing again. When I added up the credits we'd need for the meals we want to do, DxDP seemed the best deal for us given my "I don't want to think about it once I'm there" method of budgeting.

I did change things this time, though, with not necessarily planning a table breakfast and/or lunch every day and doubling up on signature events quite a bit. The DxDP IS a lot of food if you actually sit down for all 3 meals during a day.

As for the snacks? We ended up using our credits at the end of the trip because we had so many unused ones and brought stuff home with us.

Who doing the dining plan and who isn't I'm still debating

We are not doing DDP this time. We tend to prefer to order an appetizer or two rather than desserts. I did the math and we are better off paying out of pocket with the TIW card.

We always purchase the dining plan. It's nice to know that everything is paid for ahead of time and there's no worrying about how much something cost. By my calculations, we do come out ahead by using the plan. It's not a huge savings but it is a savings for my family.

We had free dining our first trip. This time we purchased it, for the same reasons. People keep telling me I should just set aside the money and pay out of pocket, but I know we won't set it aside. And then we'll be constantly watching and doing the math, and not getting what we really want because we are scrimping for it.

My kids are all big eaters, and most of our ADRs are buffet/family style, so we really feel we get our money's worth.

We will be on the dining plan. We are taking our 2 sons, and they can really pack it away. I'd much rather know they can order whatever they choose, than worry about the bill when it comes. I could probably save a little, but it's the convenience I'm after! :goodvibes

for us the dining plan is the convenience that I'm after. It is more likely that I can save by going out of pocket because I wouldn't eat at the more expensive restaurants and we would watch what we eat that it doesn't cost too much. With the plan we can try new things and restaurants that I wouldn't have otherwise and its already paid for.

We won't do the DP on our upcoming trip. We really are not big eaters to be honest. We love to try new things and really enjoy the "vacation food" and treats at Disney.;) We are more grazers so we split meals and have more snacks.

We did the Big Thunder BBQ at DL and it was WAY too much food for us. We did not get second "buckets" of anything. So the buffets and all you care to eat meals are not good value for us. We had a lunch at Blue Bayou and DD and I split, DH had an entree and DS had a kid's pasta. We hardly could finish 1 creme brule we ordered to share. It was lovely, but too much!

Having been to DL where there is no dining plan and reading so many DW TR's where the DP looks so good I really thought we would go that route when we started to plan this upcoming trip to DW. I researched all the TS and CS menus, found photos of the food and read reviews. But for us OOP seems better suited to us. We do have some ADR's for the TS that really appealed to us and we did not think we wanted to miss. Other than that we will eat on the fly so to speak.

No dining plan for us. It just doesn't give us the flexibility we need anymore. It worked well when we traveled with just our two youngest kids but with the older kids we prefer to not do the dining plan. Plus I have an AP and TIW and I'm hoping to stay in the cabins this trip so many of our meals (especially breakfast and dinner) will be in the cabin.

So how official does my trip need to be before I start a PTR? Because I'm dying to start one but the trip is still just a discussion between my friend and I, even though we have dates and are looking for ADRs...:lmao:

Yay! Congrats!

I finally got to make the rest of the ADRs for our trip in May. Just a piece of info for those who have split stays: I found that I had to wait 180 days for each separate reservation to make ADRs. We are staying BWV for 5/12-5/5/14, CR for 5/14-5/18, Disney Dream 5/18-5/22 and CR again 5/22-5/24. At least I was able to get all the ADRs we wanted at reasonable times. You would think since all room reservations are showing in MDE, they would let me make ADRs for the entire trip and not just for each segment at a time. Saw the pass holder discount was released today so hopefully May discounts will be coming out shortly.

Made all my ADR's today for our May 22-31 trip. Got everything we wanted and at the times we wanted. I'm so excited!! :thumbsup2

If they give me the dinning plan for free of course I will take it but it's not a deal make or beaker for us too!

You are so right, traveling as just adults and wanting to eat at the upscale restaurants it doesn't give you enough flexibility.
