MAY 2014 Car Rentals

Subbing to this board - I need a car May 27-31!

I noticed on National's site they have a 9.95 a day "IF" you drive the rental to another state. This is for all of May. As a result we are likely to fly to MCO and drive home. Even with gas and a hotel stay home this will be a savings for us.

Subbing!!

May 2nd-17th for us. Flying in and out of MCO.

For those of you that have gone through Costco...can this be done with a Canadian Membership? TIA!

Wow...that sounds like a great rate. I would be willing to do the same, but it would mean adding a day to my vacation and I can't do that.

Good luck and congrats on the good deal!

Subbing:)

We are going May1-7 and rates even for a compact are over $200. Never have paid that much. Hoping for a much better price.

Eddygirl .... yes you can use Costco Canada. I have looked for May14-17 before our cruise through Budget and Avis through Costco and it has been the best price for me so far.

I will join in on this thread. I looked last fall for our upcoming trip in May and everything was like $800. Today I booked a week (May 11 - 17) from MCO to drop off in Canaveral. Going on Cruise on the 17th and then want to book a one way back to airport on May 24. I got best rate through Costco (Budget) and it was still $370. Hopefully we will get some good rates come out in the next 45 days or so.

To Update:

So far going through Costco is best. Budget was $575 including all taxes for 15 days. Avis was $600. Both for a full size. These were about $440--$460 before taxes/fees. We will not need extra insurance, etc as we are covered with our home policy and we have a portable GPS.

Budget fluctuates wildly from day to day, even log in to log in for me? Like $300 up and down!

There are other coupons on the side that seem to save $20-$30 off the Costco rate. I got them to work for Budget.... But Avis' coupon had to be used by Dec 31, 2013? The rental had to be used by that date, so code would not apply. The click through windows for the coupons are right on the side of the screen so no need to key in a code, it does it automatically.

I will check both next week and probably reserve with no deposit. You only save about $20 to prepay, so will wait for better deals if they come out.

I will keep checking and hope it comes down closer to, but if it does not, I can live with this! So much better than the $800-$900 before taxes I was seeing everywhere!

subscribing to keep an eye on rates. Haven't booked flights yet though :rotfl2:

Alamo, using 299851 [yes, I'm not totally comfortable using it anymore either] 5/24 - 5/31 $180 total for a sports car - Dodge Challenger.

I just checked National with the KLM code. I have 2 coupons:
NU1626ADE for a 2 car class upgrade and a $30.00 off coupon from Entertainment NDA2354BU (good thru 6-30-2014). Only one coupon can be used - both are still coming out at over $500.00 : May 2-10. Guess I'll keep checking. We don't need a car this trip. If I can find a rental cheap enough though may be inclined to get one.

OK, I tried again. This time with the KLM code and the $30.00 off coupon which is better than the 2 class upgrade, I get $258.34 for a standard size. Better, but not good enough.

Disgusted:worried: with the car rental prices. Even in over the next couple days/weeks they are still high. Never paid over $150 for a week in a mid-size.

If you join Emerald Club you can rent a midsize and choose any car.

It still may be a little early. I don't really expect to see decent rates for another few weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed.....

As many have posted, rates are higher and we are not seeing drops even for rentals in the next few weeks. This may be a trend due to improving economy (or at least the media tells us its improving :rolleyes1). Anyway, if more ppl are traveling than rates won't be dropping like we've seen in the past. I thought last year's rates were significantly higher than previous rates and I think that trend will continue.

I have a rental through EZ Rent-a-car using the coupon for Police and Service Personnel. I am an RN and called and verified that RN's are included. They also have Teacher, Student, and discounts for joining their renter's program.

Anyway, got 5/3-5/12 for $233.15 all in. I booked and will watch esp. the majors for drops. May also try Priceline as trip dates get closer.
