May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

Doesn't work for me - tells me to call whether I'm logged in with Insiders or not.
:confused3

I took the PP information to mean if you made the initial reservation while logged in with your Insiders account, not necessarily trying to cancel a reservation while logged in. Is that the case here?

Our rates with Alamo dropped for our rental from May 24th (picking up at TPA) and dropping off June 8th at MCO. This is for a Full-Sized car using the VISA discount code and a "1 Free Day" coupon from Entertainment. Estimated total (with all taxes and fees) is $241 and some change. I'm very happy with that. 2 years ago we paid slightly over $250 for a full sized car from Alamo. ALSO--I was NOT able to go in and view this reservation UNTIL I logged into our Alamo Insiders account, however, I don't think I actually made the reservation while logged in as an insider...not sure what the "glitch" with Alamo is right now (in regards to modifying reservations) but its pretty frustrating!

Flying in and out of TPA May26-May31. Been playing with all kinds of rental options. Budget has a great rate on Intermediate SUVs coming in at $196 including taxes and fees, but I want to use a debit card and not have a credit check run on me. Today, checked Alamo and they have a Full Size for right at $200. No codes required, but I am an Insider, so that likely impacts the price.

I do have a question if anyone can answer: there are 5 of us, 2 adults, 3 kids ages 9, 6, and 4. Will a full size from Alamo fit all of us and our luggage comfortably? Won't be in the car too much, but still want space, mainly for all of our suitcases. Anyone have any help there? I've read that it's possible to get into a mid-size SUV when renting a full size from Alamo, depending on what is in their lot at that time. Anyone have experience with this, specifically at TPA? Thanks! I'm hanging on to my Budget SUV reservation just in case, and will bite the bullet and pull out my credit card for the "hold" if it turns out I need to keep the SUV space. Anyone else realize a Disney vacation takes on a whole new aspect if you have 5 in your family??!! Info on my rental below.

This ==> If the Reservation is made with *are you an ALAMO Insider* included

then I am unable to modify/cancel Reservation.

YMMV

Are you only wanting to use Alamo? You can get a much better rate with National for those times, by using 8572130 [KLM code that you need to sign up as a member] or a code that gmeh1 has been giving out - XZ53043, then add e-coupon ND9334SND for another $30. off for a total of $323. using 8572130 or $395. using XZ53043 for a standard/fullsize. And I see from some of your earlier posts you were renting out of Sanford and dropping at Orlando. If that is still the case it is the same rate.

What is the XZ53043 code from? I just wanted to make sure I wont have to show anything when I go to pick up the car. It did give me a great deal :)

That is what the link I posted talks about. :) That's all the information I know about that code.

I have to say that I am pretty surprised that the prices continue to rise instead of the typical pattern of falling prices as the trip dates approach.

I leave in two weeks and everything is $100 to $200 more than the rental we booked "just in case."

I Googled the code and it comes up with a National Car Rental screen saying "Welcome Compass Group Travelers" if this helps any. Not sure who/what the group is.

Yes, I get your concern. I googled it, too and Compass Group is what comes up on the reservation, but I trust gmeh1 as she works, or used to work, for them. Personally though, I'm sticking with the KLM code [which I signed up for last year] because I just feel more comfortable with that. :thumbsup2

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize gmeh1 had the inside scoop. That's good to know. That code and the KLM code isn't helping me much. I got rates a few wks ago (5/8-15 Full sz - Budget $167; Dollar $151) that are quite acceptable in today's market but was hoping for a little lower.

Check your Costco rates. My rates for TPA just came down with Alamo. I am about 3 weeks away from my rental and this is the cheapest I have been able to find yet

Booked an intermediate SUV with AVIS for May 16-20, using a code special on their website and $20 off for 4 day weekend, total with taxes $109 and change.

Really need a minivan but this will have to do.

Any reviews of Avis? will be first time using them

Can you share the code/coupon you used?

Did you check dollar? If you go under specials they have a minivan special for $39.99 a day. I entered your dates from noon to noon with tax it comes to $211. Not great, but better than some rates I have seen.

Promo Code 5CO5M
Rent a Minivan for $39.99/day in the U.S. through May 31, 2013.

I myself was able to rent a minivan with Costco today out of TPA for 6 days. Here is what I got with Alamo. I previously had a Standard SUV for $200

GRAND CARAVAN PASS VAN SE OR SIMILAR
Automatic transmission, Air conditioning
Unlimited mileage
Alamo - Mini Van Base Rate $131.25
7 Passenger Icon
Taxes & Fees $57.85

Rental Price $189.10

I bid through Priceline and named my own price. I got a midsize car from Hertz for a total of $147.55 including all taxes and fees for 5/19-5/26. Happy with that.

Wow! Great price. Do you know how many days before your dates you placed the bid? I did a similar bid 16 days in advance of our date and got $170. Though ours was about the same dates, was your pick up/drop off at the Orlando airport! I hear fees are a lot more from airports.

I got a similar deal by bidding on priceline too: 144.87 for an economy-sized car from 5/16-5/21. I didn't expect it to get accepted based on the prices I was seeing but now I wish I would have gone a bit lower!

Our car is from Hertz, on-site at MCO. I bid yesterday (4/19), 27 days before our trip.

I'm completely frustrated. I have been watching and using all different kind of codes for our upcoming trip, and nothing is coming in at a decent price. Luckily, I found a pretty good deal from Dollar for $314 for our trip from May 28th with a pickup at 11am to June 12th with a return at noon. I really wanted Alamo, National, or even Avis if possible, but none of the coupons or contract ID's are making a small dent. I am an Alamo Insider, and National as well, and nothing is working. Am I just dense, or is the time I am going just high? Thanks for letting me vent.
