May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

I currently have a full-size, but a mid-size would work just fine. Also, we do not have Costco around us, so I can't use any of those contracts, or coupons.....thanks!

OMG, thank you soooooo much for posting this! We just reserved a five-day, full-size rental for $38.27 TOTAL! I'm joining you in this dance.:yay::dance3::yay::banana: Yes!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I just got the same $76.47 for my dates of May 4-12 picking up a Fullsize from SOG and dropping off at MCO.

Okay, so I just tried a crazy option. I'm flying into Tampa on 5/26. There's 5 of us, so I wanted a minivan, but the prices were pretty steep. However, I just gamed the system:
Rent minivan from National at TPA on Sunday 5/26 when we arrive.
Return minivan to WDW Car Care Center on Thursday 5/30 before we head to Epcot for the day
COST: $158 total including fees and taxes
Walk across to the Alamo counter
Rent minivan from Alamo at Car Care Center at the same time, Thursday 5/30 head to Epcot for the day (my family will already be there on Disney transport so they won't be waiting on me to swap cars)
Return minivan to TPA on Friday 5/31 before flight
COST: $56 total including fees and taxes

TOTAL COST: $214

Renting round trip for some time period at TPA: $538

I checked, and although it is a little more expensive than I'm getting through TPA, similar savings are available from MCO. This does add in the extra step of going to the Car Care Center, but the savings are enormous. Also, I'm attending a convention, so I had convention meetings the morning of the 30th and was heading to Epcot to meet my family so it is convenient for me to make this swap on the way. Thought it pretty ridiculous that the prices were so different. I could have gotten a similar savings doing both "one-ways" either all Alamo or all National (owned by same company and both at the Car Care Center) but just covering myself a bit by doing each way through each company. Just throwing it out there as an option, a bit of extra work, but I really wanted a minivan for the family and really wanted to keep my rental near $200. :joker:

That's a great plan..what codes did you use for Alamo?

No codes, but I am an Insider which is free to join, so that saved some money. Used the ID and ND9334SND for National, but I'm not sure that it had any impact on the price.

I just tried this code and got a rate of $82 for 9 nights the end of May at SOG....WOW... Thank you!!!

....but - in trying to find the location's hours, this location doesn't come up when I search Orlando locations on National. When I went to the SOG's website, it says there is a Hertz location. ???? Mousesavers states there is an Alamo/National kiosk. ???? Anyone know what's what - is there a National location at SOG ???

If so - what's the best way to get to SOG if staying on property and not at SOG ???? Can nonmilitary enter SOG ?

Also - the National car rental site just went down after making this rez - now I'm wondering if this was a glitch, and if so, will they honor this rate....

Silly question, but how are you getting from the airport to shades of green to pick up a car? Super shuttle is $18/pp which doesn't make it a cheap option for a family of 6.

I'm using Disney's Magical Express on 5/10/13 and then we will head over to MK on 5/11/13 for the day. From there we will head on over to the Poly and just walk over to SOG. I think you can board a SOG bus at the TTC too. We like to stroll the grounds though!

We are actually staying at BWV for this trip (incase anyone was wondering) and are not military affiliated.

This rate beat my previous best (Alamo) by $110!!! I will keep checking as the dates get closer. It would be more convenient to just get the car at MCO when we arrive, but I like money too much to just toss it away like that!!!

Everyone doesn't have to go to pick up the car. But SOG is across from the Poly so you can either take the monorail (or Disney bus) to that resort and walk across the street or take a cab.

RE: the National coupon code: ND9334SND

Wow! Amazing deal! I could have saved almost $100.

Has anyone ever successfully cancelled a Priceline "name your own price" reservation?

Thanks for the tip! Just reserved Standard from May 2nd to the 7th for $52. I'm wondering if they have some type of golfing event and will have a glut of cars they need to reshuffle. I wasn't going to get a car for this trip (first time ever) but with such a great rate I can't turn it down.

Hope it isn't a glitch and they do honor it. :)

I tried to replicate this great deal and am coming up with rates over $300 (using the May 11 to May 19 example) :confused3. Can someone please post each step that needs to be done so I can see what I am missing? Thanks :thumbsup2

The SOG website states you must have a valid military ID to access the property. Anyone have any experience with this ?

I know the mom's panel isn't always correct, but I did find this question on there about picking up a car at Shades of Green. Personally, I don't think I would chance it.

I need rental car help! Can I pick up a car at Shades of Green if I'm not military? What's the best way to get there from Whispering Canyons Cafe?

Answer Hi Karen!

Thank you for sending in your question to the Walt Disney World Moms Panel.

Unfortunately, you can't enter the Shades of Green unless you have a military ID or are with a person with a military ID. Thus I suggest you look at renting a car from one of the other locations within Walt Disney World such as at the Car Care Center outside the Magic Kingdom or at one of the hotels in the Downtown Disney area or at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotel complex in the Epcot Resort Area.

I hope this helps! Please write back with more questions!

not sure how accurate this information is but just thought i would share!

i decided to get in on the awesome national/SOG deal and after reading about possibly not being able to rent from them without being military, i called the 888# on my reservation. it connected me with Alamo but i gave them my reservation # and they were able to help me out. they assured me that the rental centre is open to anyone and while there is no emerald aisle there, anyone with emerald club (such as myself) will still be able to get their car upgraded as long as there is availability.

I checked out the National/SOG rates. WOW! Fabulous deal! Not going to work for us as we are arriving in Orlando 2 days before our Disney Vacation begins. Here is hoping ours comes down a little bit! :goodvibes

So we are flying in late on Saturday night so I wouldn't be able to pick up at SOG Sat. I searched for rates Sun to Sat and they were over $200, when I searched Sat to Sat the super cheap rate was there. Has anyone ever made a reservation and not pick it up til the next day?
