May 2012 Car Rentals

I just went to check to see if my rates had become any lower (using the Visa code and $30 off coupon) and saw that the rates (1st week of May) were sky high again:scared1: I'm glad that I reserved already (7 days - Midsize SUV for $183.78 with taxes). Same SUV is now over $400. I've never seen this type of flucuation in rental car prices. Anybody know what's going on?:confused3

I have no idea what is going on with Alamo but I am getting frustrated. I keep checking rates and I have noticed that it would be cheaper to keep the rental car for 9 nights versus 7 nights.

Unfortunately, I will only be in FL for 7 nights. If I rent the car for 9 nights and return it early, I could potentially owe almost $100 more when I turn the car in :scared1:

I'm traveling May 11th - 18th and I really hope the rates for these days start getting better soon :worship:

Did you try adjusting your rental by half hour? I did this and my rate dropped in half! Like if you are arriving in MCO at 11' put pick up at 11 and return at 11:30...

Might want to consider Advantage (now owned by Hertz as I understand it, where the clean but higher mileage cars wind up lol), there is a AAA discount of 5% and site has some coupons for week long rentals thru end of May.

For my rental, it's approx $5 less a day than one i currently have booked; which I prefer to use, but since it's an iffy code:rolleyes1this time i want to have some sort of back up in place jik i'm denied.

Recent reviews i've seen elsewhere are decent enough:confused3 unless i've missed anything here via a search. Feel free to set me straight on Advantage if the new & i'm told improved version of it is not worth the effort.;)

I tried playing with the pick up/drop off times but there was no difference in price :sad1:

I've been checking Orbitz every day or two for my dates (May 20-27). I start with Orbitz because I like their easy-to-read grid. Well, today the rates are down significantly... not only from Sixt, Fox and Payless but also from Thrifty and Dollar in-terminal. Rates for everything from economy to full size are well under $200 all-in. Sixt even has a Mustang convertible for $178, as well as an SUV for $152.

ETA: A couple of other observations... Dollar and Thrifty are offering a standard car for $149, less than their smaller sizes... and Alamo and National are conspicuous by their absence.

Has anyone rented from Sixt Rental Car?

I checked my dates (May 11th - 18th) and I can get a Toyota Rav4 for $146.30or a Mercedes Benz C Class for $189.97 with prepaid rental :woohoo:

or, according to the website:

i.e. BMW 3 series, Cadillac CTS, Volvo S60
Limousine (PCAR)

all cool cars though:) cancellable only a few dollars more for flexibility.

so this is offsite via a shuttle?

The Visa code goes into the "contract" box and the coupon code is AD2359FDF and goes into the "coupon" box. The coupon is for $35 off.

I'm finding that the Alamo lower prices seem to be more towards late April into May. I need 2 different rentals. One for April 19-26 (6 seater) and one for April 26-May 12 (17 days) any size (full size likely). I certainly would not split if I didn't have to. But right now two rentals seem to be cheaper than one. I still have almost 6 weeks, so lots of times for some good deals to come up.

Do you know what the coupon is? It says I may have to show it????

I'm not sure if this company is located offsite. After I read some reviews I did not make a reservation.

Try autoslash.com They book for you and constantly check codes, e-mail you when the price drops. No charge for this. My original reservation was over $300, now down to $127 for a week with Thrifty. :cool1::cool1::cool1:
