May 2012 Car Rentals

I am kicking myself for not booking a few weeks ago. I had priced out a 10 day rental (May 3-12) with Alamo for about $150 for a full size and now the cheapest I can find is well over $200!! :headache:

I know they will probably come down again but it still stresses me out! I'm really hoping National comes down so I can try out my newly upgraded exec status!!

Disneyfocus - yes, you can plug in your Insider's ID, add the Visa discount code and coupon. You cannot, however, put in Insider's member ID, Insider discount code ID, Visa discount code ID and coupon - if you get me. Only one set of ID code and coupon, along with your membership #.

I went to the Visa discounts website, used their link for the coupon and discount, and added in my Insider's ID and member name. HTH!

APB513 - the Travelocity code was posted this a.m. by another DISer, but it is a current promotional code for $35 off/week stay (I think with Sat. overnight). AD2359FDF

I went to the website, logged into my Insider's account, pulled up a search engine - it had my ID # and the discount code blanks filled in. Added the coupon code.:thumbsup2

If you're a Costco member, their website is showing some great rates for most all types of cars for the second week in May from Enterprise. I just reserved a 'standard' size car for $132, taxes included. This also includes an upgrade to the next size for free. This was cheaper than any other size car they offered. Couldn't pass it up, but I'm still looking since it looks like all the car companies are starting to move on their prices.

Costco rates have changed every time I have checked today! I've checked 3-4 times between 8am and now (6:30) Geez!!!

Thank you so much for making me check - my Alamo rental for the end of May went down $65 tonight to $135 incl taxes - just checked this morning. Used only my Alamo Insider's number and my American Airlines code of AD2359FDF (I do have an AA pass number).
This rate applies all the way from compact through Mid-size SUV. Got the mid-size SUV.
Get it now before it changes!!!!!!

Anyone having any luck with rentals out of Sanford Orlando Airport? Still over $300 for my 10 days in May... Yuck. TIA!

I just booked an Avis 7 day intermediate SUV for $124 plus taxes & fees which comes to $190 with taxes & airport fees after discounts are applied. Use Avis discount AWD S767700 and coupon MUWA130 good for $35 off. The rate will show at $159 and then the $35 coupon gets deducted when you pick up the car.

I have an SUV rented from Budget at SFB first week in May for $139 + taxes less a $30 coupon ($191.44 - $30 coupon at time of rental = $161.44)
Your looking at 10 days so will be higher but you should be able to beat $300 .
Try these:
Wendie's Special Offer BCD: D454300
coupon code: MUGZ029

If your looking for something smaller, a compact is $119 + taxes -coupon = $138.12

I've flown into Sanford several times and you just can't get the deals that come up at MCO.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong - I just entered the exact AVIS codes above for an intermediate SUV and I'm getting 309 dollars!

I'm just trying for a week rental from May 5-12th. Is the problem that I want to pick up in Orlando and drop off in Tampa? It doesn't note that this is a problem but maybe that's why the prices I get are always higher than other people are getting?

I'd say that is exactly the reason, one way rentals are usually higher.

You're likely getting hit with a drop charge, check your reservation summary and try all the companies. We've used budget and not been assessed in the past. We'd never use them otherwise but the difffernce was too great to pass up.

I see you're pricing a SUV, when dropping cars in TPA we've found that any 'special' sort of car tends to run more $ 'generic' intermediates far more reasonably priced.

Renting from 5/5 to 5/12 off site. WDW CCC or DTD area it doesn't matter. I am stuck around the $200 mark. I see lots of people with much better deals but can't seem to lower mine. Any help will be appreciated.

Sorry, I didn't find anything cheaper.

The best deal for me was the Costco code for a full size car from Alamo for 5/23-5/28 that came to $95.95 INCLUDING taxes! I had originally thought the Budget deal was good (came to $198 for an SUV - I originally booked this because the SUV rate was better than for a car?).

One way rentals are higher as a general rule.

Sometimes you are better off going to the rental company's website and plugging in the rental code and coupon code.

That is a GREAT coupon code. And it works for the CCC too.

gmeh1 - a quick question. At MCO/Alamo are all of the minivans in the same row? I can never get a Sienna to come up on a search at MCO, so either they are sold out (all the time), or they are grouped together. A couple of years ago we reserved a minivan w/Alamo and there were several Siennas in the minivan row. Just curious why the 8 passenger minivan never comes up as a choice. We prefer the T&C, but also like the Sienna and the Caravan is generally our last choice. tks.

siennas are in a separate row. They are considered 8 passenger van, cost more and they are on the list of cars under the "cars" listing on the alamo web site. If they don't show up on a search for MCO it is probably because they are sold out. They are quite popular and do sell out. The T&C, IMHO, is the best van out there. We also have Kia Sedonas as a mini van choice.
My suggestion to you, if you want one, is to call Orlando and see if it is available. You simply never know.
