May 2, 2014 - A WONDERous trip through the Locks WBPC

Two more to join the group! DH and I are signed up for this cruise and looking forward to it in a big way. Our last cruise was the Wonder to Hawaii in April 2012. We love the long cruises with all the great days at sea.
Happy planning!

Welcome. We too were on that first Hawaiian cruise. It was awesome. This will be awesome as well.

Hi Judy and Mark.

It's already July, which seemed far into the future when we started this thread!

Glad to read new posts and welcome more people :)

I wish I was on the Wonder RIGHT NOW:wizard:

Hi Everyone! :wave2:

Just booked this fabulous cruise!!! I'll be traveling with my fiance, J.D. We got engaged onboard the Wonder last October and we're hoping to get married on the ship sometime during this cruise - or possibly at our first port, Key West. I think a beach wedding sounds fantastic!!!

We have 7 kids (7, 13, 13, 15, 15, 17 & 22) between the two of us, but they are not cruising with us this time around. We've discussed it heavily, but just can't pull them out of school so close to the end of the school year.

This will be my 6th cruise (3 Western Caribbean, 1 Eastern Caribbean, 1 Hawaii). I've always wanted to see the Panama Canal and these ports look really exciting!

So happy to be here and can't wait to start planning with you all!!! :thumbsup2

We're currently tossing around the idea of taking them the week before we sail. They would then fly home the day we board the ship. I think this would be a fun way to include them in our Wedding celebration! ;)

Cool! We have a bride and groom on board! I love weddings, can't wait to hear your plans!

Hi and welcome. You are going to have a great cruise.

Lots of people have asked me if there already is a new canal, or part of one. I don't know, but I say that people here mention that if the Wonder is refitted with things like the Aquadunk it wouldn't fit. So, my reply has been "no." Is that correct?

It would really come down to width. How much more does the AquaDunk add to to the width of the ship. There really wan't much wiggle room (maybe 6 feet) between the ship and canal sides. But the AquaDunk is at the top and there may be more room there depending on surrounding buildings. We know at least one building was moved further away after DCL took part of it out on the WBPC back in 2005.. :rolleyes1

The new lane of the canal is years behind schedule. What was already to be finished will now not be finished until at least 2015 maybe longer. DCL, according to a very close friend shoreside at Celebration, has told me the plans to add to the Wonder like the Magic are on hold until they get word from the Canal Authority that the new lane and locks are ready to go. The Magic isn't getting any wider, well except for the Aquadunk going over the side. The problem is the Magic is getting longer by 20 feet. That makes her to big to go through the canal. The same thing will happen to the Wonder.

Ok I have to ask this one. I have been through 6 times. All 4 times Westbound with DCL. The only thing I ever recall the ship hitting is the wall. All of the buildings look like they haven't been moved since the day they were put in. What building did the Magic hit?

Well maybe taking out a building was a little exaggerated but time will do that to a story.. :)

Basically the ship's side bridge extension hit one of the middle buildings when entering the canal from the East Coast causing some damage to both ship and building. DCL had a nice bill for damages. We were able to see the damaged building on the way back that fall on the Eastbound cruise.

Tried to google for some pics and more info but unable to find any now..

I will take your work for it. I really don't remember that.

Welcome, congratulations on your upcoming wedding...and WBPC honeymoon:goodvibes

Stories, sprinkled with Pixie Dust, grow:) In May, DH & I took video & sound of - what we thought - was a good bang into the wall. But Capt. P mentioned it happens all the time.

Good morning from hot sunny England. We are in the middle of a heatwave which is wonderful as we have had many lousy summers waiting for one. OK, the temperatures aren't as high as many of you get but we are very happy here. People are even grumbling about it being too hot!!!!!

Hi Folks!
DH have just moved our previous OBB to this cruise. We were going to go on the B2B california coast with 9 night Alaska. However, we have just come off the Magic in the Med and DH has decided he only wants to cruise somewhere warm.

So Alaska is on the backburner for a few years!

It will just be the 2 of us. Although I am contemplating flying to Orlando for a few theme park days pre cruise it is most likely we will fly directly to MIA the day before then we have 2 nights booked in San Diego at the end.

Looking forward to getting to know you all

Welcome!:welcome:

Because it is Flower & Garden time in Epcot, we definitely will spend at least the weekend before the cruise at WDW. The Flower Power Concerts have only been on weekends, so we don't want to miss one. We just may go to VB after the weekend to relax at the beach before relaxing on the cruise!:lmao:Can we relax too much??

Hi and welcome. I can't get my husband John to go to Alaska either and both of us kind of think cruising and warm weather go together!!! Your hubby sure will get the warm weather on this cruise anyway,:lmao: We haven't decided what to do before and after as yet. We have just booked a cruise for this October/November and I am trying to sort all that out at the moment. Nice problem to have though.

Where are you staying in San Diego? We do think we will have a couple of nights there. We had 3 nights there after the Jan 2011 WBPC and really enjoyed it. We only stayed in a little Motel though it is one that is high up on ratings and it was really good for the price. However we thought we would up our quality this time and also stay more central. Not that we were far away and we didn't find parking a problem in SD. Mind, that was January, it might be more of a problem in May.

Haha, we have just booked 2 nights at Vero Beach after our 26 nights onboard the Crown Princess this November. I think relaxing after a cruise is as good as relaxing before!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Thanks for the welcome :-) we will be staying at the Wyndham just outside the port. I had already booked it as it would have been the 2 nights before the B2B so it was convenient for the cruise port and offers free airport transfers.
We're from the UK and booked via expedia Uk to claim double nectar points I hope to put toward the flights later this year. Plus they had an offer on last month :-)
