May 2, 2009~~~Magical MAYniacs!~~~ 7 day Western....Updated, April 3,2009!!

So does anyone officially know yet if we are stopping in Mexico or not? I would LOVE an extra day at Castaway..........:woohoo:
I wish Disney would let us know soon! (i'm like a child....I can't wait for anything!):lmao:

appears that we are still going to Cozumel and we will all be staying on the ship at our pediatricians recommendation. We dod not have any pre-existing health concerns.

I called this morning and the CM told me that as of right now, they are still on (this is before the most recent news story telling people to avoid Mexico, though). She said they will not stop if there is cause for concern in that area. I asked if we would just have an extra at sea day or an extra day at Castaway Cay, and she said, "No, that's no fun! We'd take you to a different port." So... what could the surprise port be:confused3? Any guesses? Assuming they avoid Cozumel, of course.

We had booked the Dolphin discovery at Chankanaab (directly, so no DCL refund). I would be really sad to miss that, but would prefer missing that over dying from the flu! Now I am wondering where else the ship might go and what sorts of fun activities might be possible.

I know Castaway Cay is wonderful and all, but I'm really depressed about this whole Mexico thing:sad1:. I booked this cruise specifically so my daughter could have the experience of going to Mexico and speaking spanish to native speakers. (she's in 3rd grade and has taken spanish since K) It is the thing she looked forward the most to. The more I read, the more I figure we won't be stopping. It's just so disappointing.....

I pretty much booked the Western for Cozumel as well. I have been to Cancun and always wanted to go to Cozumel. :sad1:

LOL...you don't have to go to Mexico for your daughter to practice her Spanish......just visit Florida!!! :goodvibes

Currently you don't even need a passport! :rotfl:

We also booked the western cruise specifically for Cozumel. It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid to explore actual ruins. Don raised a good point, that Cozumel is an island so maybe we can still stop. I have every confidence if it's not safe, DCL won't stop.
Even though this is throwing a bit of a cloud over the trip, we can always look for the rainbow and that may be a surprise port (I LOVE surprises, as long as they are the good kind!) and if we can't go now, I'll let Don take me on another cruise to Cozumel!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Ashlotte and Zerog-If we can't stop in Cozumel, I feel bad you won't get your dolphin excursions. If you have the time and really want to do it, Discovery Cove in Orlando does and OUTSTANDING job, and in my opinion, it is well worth the money. If time allows and your interested, there may be some space available this time of year (I know for Zerog it's local, so that would be a non-issue). Hopefully if we don't go to Cozumel we can visit someplace that you'll still get the opportunity to do this!:wizard:

LOVE LOVE LOVE Discovery Cove!! A little more money but all inclusive and beautiful! Spend the whole day...food and drinks included.

my4bratz-We did the Discovery Cove thing last year and celebrated Alexandra's 18th-it was so awesome! Your right about the all-inclusive, it positively rocked and far exceeded our expectations! Hopefully all our MAYniacs will get a chance to enjoy their dolphin excursions one way or another!:cloud9:

The time now is 8:40pm EST.

I just got off the phone with DCL to get a status on the Swine Flu situation. At this time, there are no reported cases being reported from Cozumel and we are still GO to dock. DCL is of course monitoring the situation closely. A lot can change in the next 9 days. I trust they will do what's right based upon official reports - and if they dock, then we are getting off the ship. If we stay on the ship, there is always the chance that a satellite could come from the sky and hit me on the head. :headache:

Having said that, if we do not dock at Cozumel - which as some remembered is where we booked the Dolphin excursion (i.e., our only booked excursion for the entire cruise) - sure we will be disappointed. Yes, we can always do a dolphin encounter at Discovery Cove. However, my in-laws live in Arkansas - who btw just arrived.

On the other hand, the Magical Mayniacs agreed long ago that "as long as the ship ain't sinkin', then we will make the best of what we get." This family will go with the flow and we are going to have a great time, Cozumel or no Cozumel!!! :)

Lastly, the CM on the phone confirmed that if we don't go to Cozumel, we may dock at a port TBD. The captain will handle it like they did when a hurricane damaged Cozumel (last year?). It will be up to the captain to decide where we go. I'm okay with that.

:woohoo: 5 MORE DAYS! WOOHOO :woohoo:

OMG...:rotfl:...thank you....:lmao:...I needed that!

I've decided whatever is going on on the ship is much better than what is going on in Michigan, so I'm going to have a good time regardless! No Swine flu is going to ruin my vacation!

I called directly with Dolphin Discovery and cancelled my swim; we will loose 10% but I would rather risk that then all of the $.:-):headache:

Loved Zerog's point about the satellite!! Puts things in proper perspective!:goodvibes
It's nice to see that everyone is trying to take the possibility of no Cozumel in stride (or in some cases, the possibility of stopping!). It sounds as if everyone has the same goal-to just relax and have fun!:woohoo:
Earlier I found a link to a page that has people who live in Cozumel and their updates as to what is going on. Most stated that even there as a precaution, all schools and public buildings have been closed for the time being. There have been no reports of flu on Cozumel. Apparantly the Mexican government is texting people as updates occur. Hopefully they will be able to contain this strain and keep the impact to a minimum. The folks in Mexico must really be nervous.

I LOVE your positive attitude, zerog! :thumbsup2

Thanks for cheering us up! :flower3:

:sick:All...sorry been away for a WHILE...but, back and ready for vacation.

Read all the posts about the "conditions" in Mexico and appreciate the insight..and am now concerned about stray satellites :scared:

As reassurance, on an Eastern 7day we were diverted from Castaway to Nassau due to hurricane which sounded like a bummer but...it was at the same time as Disney Wonder (only third or fourth time both in port same time) so it was way cool. Who knows, if we divert maybe we'll do Aruba or something (stopped there on Canal Crossing).

Rest assured, when we divert (if need to) the shore excursions are refunded and DCL usually (as they did for us) sets up some of the popular excursions at the last minute; they even set up the Dolphin Encounter spur of the moment. No worries. :cheer2:

Oooh, forgot... Meg and I have switched to stateroom 7576. We wanted to be on the starboard side for days in port and sailing out of Canaveral. Didn't want anyone stopping by old room and surprising new residents. :scared1:

Thanks

OK! Coming to visit you in Hershey right after I have a chocolate bath at the spa!!

Good morning everyone! I am super neurotic...but saw that the UK cancelled all non-essential travel to Mexico. NOW, I have to worry about the satelites.(sp) I feel like Chicken Little!! (he was very cute and an incredible dancer)

Just when I think I am organized:lmao: The house again looks like a bomb blew up in it!!!! The nerve of people to want me to do my job today!!
