May 14, 2011 - Eastbound TransAtlantic

You are basically limited to the shops in the airport - which there are some I have also heard of someone once talking about taking a taxi from the aiport to a close by store, getting things and then coming back to the airport. My suggestion is pack a suitcase that you will claim at the airport with the liquor in it (packed very well) and then take the liquor out - put in your carry on for the ship and give the bag minus the alcholol back to DCL at the luggage drop off. It would take you less time than finding a store, and most likely be cheaper!

We were thinking of ordering duty free online with our airline company (1 bottle of rye and 1 bottle of rhum) before we leave and get it onboard, then we just go to deck 9 and get soft drink ! :goodvibes

Ok the Candy Swap is on - some of us have been talking about it on the facebook group and I have now set it up as one of the spread sheets and added it to the event descriptions. Here is the info - if you have questions just ask!

Candy Swap - Participants will be broken into groups of no more than 25 PEOPLE (not cabins) - so while you will not know yet who you are giving to, you will only need 25 pieces of candy! Please note there are two types of swaps - one for chocolate only and one for any type of candy - you can jooin both and mutiple people from your cabin can join - just give different candy for each person you sign up! If doing multiple people from a cabin I will put each into a different grouping of candy but for the sign ups just list out on a new line for how many you want to do. You are only giving snack size candy bars!

You are lucky that you are flying internationally :) those of us flying domestic do not get to buy any alcohol on the flight (except for those little tiny bottles!)

Hi Everyone,

I am booking this cruise today!!! I know it is last minute, but it is such a great price. It will be me and my five year old son. Does anyone else on here have a child close in age?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I got through the first 20 pages of comments on this message board but haven't been able to do all 68 pages. If anyone could give me a brief overview of the most important points I would love that! I am a very busy graduate student and won't have much time to plan. I figure that for us it will just be fun to hang out and relax.

Thanks!
Heather

Welcome! I am traveling with my son who is almost 5! We are bringing my mom along too. There are actually a lot of younger kids so hopefully they can make some friends.

Does anyone know how the new boarding process works, if you are arriving at the port on a DCL bus from the Hyatt?

We are Platuim Castaway Cay members. I understand that we can board any time and do not need a number. But we are traveling with some friends & it is there first time on. How will they receive their boarding number? Does this effect what bus we will we be on?

Hi!

We were on the Panama Canal cruise and are Platinum Castaway. We were surprised and pleased with the new boarding procedure. You now check in for the cruise at the airport if you are taking DCL transportation to the port. (Ground Level Transportation area...next to where you go for the Magical Express buses to the park resorts.) At check in you get your KTW cards, do the usual paperwork with passports, credit cards, get your Castaway lanyard, etc, and get your DCL bus character (when they have enough people for a full bus, that character's name is called and you get in line to leave) and you get your boarding group number for getting onto the ship. At the port you just have to go through security and then sit down and be excited until your group number is called.

IF you are Platinum Castaway, you can go the Concierge check in location (towards the back of the terminal on the right side, where there used to be a snack bar) and you can trade your boarding number for a number 1. I'm hoping by now, they might be able to give these to you at the airport.

It was a very easy system and helped "spread people out" for the checkin part.

Hope this helps.

And see you real soon!

I have a son who just turned 6, named Dakota. Make sure to sign up on the google doc on the first page!

Do you think it would be possible to have a column on the FE for first names? I would like to have them for my FE gift.

My family and I were just at WDW for our birthdays, and while at DownTown Disney, we made family shirts for the cruise!!! Just a suggestion 'cause it's fun!!!!:dance3:

I was thinking this morning that my family should take our (mostly) matching UNC t-shirts to wear one day. That got me to thinking - maybe we should pick a couple of sea days as "theme" days for the DIS group. The idea is that we'd pick a theme - and all wear something that falls into it.

The one I was thinking of was "Sports Teams". This means wearing a tee-shirt or jersey or something representing your hometown or local area sports team - or just your favorite. So my family would wear UNC t-shirts, but our local high school or the Carolina Panthers work as well.

Something that would be more obvious would be a color-themed day - everyone wears a shirt of that color. Like green (preferably lime) or red or blue. Actually, it would be cool to get a group photo on a color-themed day!

I thought it might be a neat way to confuse the rest of the ship as they see a couple hundred people wearing the same-ish thing. :rotfl:I thought it could be fun to do a couple of times - any more than that might make packing more difficult - or create more laundry! :laundy: :rotfl2:

Amanda

Great idea Amanda ! I am going shopping tomorrow, I will try to find a couple of Montreal Canadians t-shirts for us to wear :cheer2: Just let us know what days you want us to wear it ! Also for t-shirts, I don't think that we can get the guys to wear pink  (as in Champagne girls !) but other colors would be fun ! I was planning to bring mostly t-shirts to wear during the day anyway... :)

OK, I'm probably just a bit crazy, but why do you want our flight info on the spread sheet? I'm honestly asking why this is anyone's concern besides me, DCL, and my TA.:goodvibes

I got it yesterday. DCL did about "best available" with seat assignments. I changed one, but only by a few rows. Trying to find out how to put our skymiles numbers in on the Delta site...but if I can't find it, I can add it at the airport.

Ordered Delta American Express card to get free luggage (no card fee first year).

Also..I forgot to say I will be celebrating my birthday on May 24!!!!

Hi and welcome! We booked rather last minute as well, travelling with 2 (adult) friends. No kids in our cabin this time around. But there seems to be plenty of children, check the roll call listed on the first page.
