People are mentioning booking for a next cruise while on board.....what kind of savings are available?

Arndtge- You get a 10% discount and a stateroom credit if you book on board. You have to do it while cruising though. I've read a couple of recent trip reports that stated the lines were long and they thought they could their discounts the week after they returned home from their cruises and couldn't. Sounds like they also waited until the last minute to try rebooking. Maybe earlier in the week is less crowded?

Only "13" more days until sailaway day!!!

My DW got her perm and my DD got her highlights done yesterday, and I had my haircut on Friday, so, the tops of our heads are ready to go!!!

I did get all my dress clothes out that I want to take, they are still on hangers, hanging on the coat rack ready to be packed when the time comes. All I need to get together now are my shorts, tee shirts, socks and a few other little items and I'm about ready. I do need to go to the store today and see if I can find myself a new pair of sandals, and I think Hazel wants to see about getting a couple new dresses. Hazel lost 30# since the last time we were on a 7 night cruise, so her formal and semi-formal dresses are a bit big looking on her. I think Angelina is pretty well set as far as dress clothes go, so it shouldn't take long to get her stuff together.

Just curious - does anyone know who our Captain will be?

I did send a message to a CM I know that works at the DCL Terminal, she said she was going to try and find out who the captain will be for the May 13th sailing when she gets to the terminal today. If I hear back from her later today, I will let you know.

Good morning gang..

This morning I canceled our 5 Star St John Snorkel excursion in hopes of booking the St.John Trunk Bay excursion that we could not book before...

Well what do you know it was available now, so we are now going on the St John Trunk Bay Beach excursion

We were unsure if our kids would be able to snorkle off of a boat in the middle of the sea, so we were debating if we should just cancel it & try to book the Trunk Bay excursion once on board or not.

One more item off the list of "To-dos", haircuts are on the list as well for DS & I

We have the Pinel Island excursion on St Marteen, Trunk Bay in St Thomas, & Stingrays on CC...

I've got to get away from this computer, I just finished making yet another sign for our door. I scanned in a DCL postcard that I received in the mail and used that for the focal point for this sign.

Our clothes are still in the closet (that's the only disadvantage to living in Florida-you need the summer clothes all year). But the coat rack is a great idea.
Looks like Grills on Friday is not in the cards. Will be sorry to miss everyone.

We're first time cruisers with a question about the dress code for meals. The literature says shorts are discouraged but we're curious what people REALLY wear. Our lifestyle is decidedly casual and living in Florida we enjoy wearing shorts for most of the year. Any advice about what's really acceptable attire?

Hi all, DH and I have both been dealing with a nasty stomach virus all weekend. I am sooo glad that I didn't book the 4/29 Eastern which I was originally considering. We would not have been able to go. I think I decided on the 5/13 because it was less costly and because I figured flu season would more likely be over by then. Thank goodness!

Sgt Sparrow, you can restock your Grey Goose right onboard. The duty-free prices onboard are great, sometimes even cheaper than in port. It's a pain to carry home but we always stock up on our favorites.

I am so not prepared for this cruise. Wrinkled clothes from last summer will probably get tossed into our suitcases the night before. I absolutely need to get my hair colored, cut and permed. Not much time left now. This virus really messed me up. Oh well, procastinator that I am, if it wasn't that it probably would have been something else.

Just get us on that beautiful ship and I will be happy!

We are very casual people, too. So casual that we do not do formal or semi-formal nights. We eat at Topsiders on those nights. A few people do wear shorts to the dining rooms. You will not be turned away. As one of our servers once told us, the dress code is "suggested" wear. I personally am glad that jeans are now acceptable. DH and I do not wear shorts but we will wear jeans. Just a word of warning...this gets to be a very hot topic on the main board. You can do a search for other opinions but if you are going to ask about the dress code you better put on your flame suit.

First of all I'd like to welcome you to the DIS and this cruise.

I do know for a fact that my niece's DH went out and bought docker shorts to wear on the cruise, which he said he will be wearing to dinner. I think the only night he plans on getting dressed up is Sunday night when they go to Palo.

I will pack one pair of dress jeans and my black and blue dress pants to wear at dinner. We don't get "dressed up" that much at home, so when we are on the cruise we like to get "dressed up" for dinner. I have a few tropical style shirts that I will be wearing on the casual nights.

On our last two cruises, I did wear shorts to dinner on tropical/pirate night, as did many others. This cruise, I will be wearing my pirate outfit on Pirate Night, unless I chicken out at the last minute!!!

Thanks for the quick posts with information (and the admonition about potentially volitile reactions to the dress code question). I think we'll come prepared for several dress options for dinner. One thing's for certain, however...we definitely won't be doing the formal evening. I've spent enough evenings in "monkey suits" to know that it's just not my thing. Don't have anything against the people who like that...it's just not us.

Our "group" will be me, my wife and our two sons, ages 10 and 12. Are there any other boys that age on the cruise?

We've been told that calling cards are a very popular item for crew tips. Is that true or should we go with the old reliable cash?

Experienced cruisers...any other tips you'd offer to newbies?

On our first cruise we handed out Walmart gift cards along with the cash tips. Ever since then, we just put extra cash in the tip envelopes. We did have a few Walmart gift cards with us for our second cruise, but our DD didn't go to "The Stack" that week, so we brought those cards home with us and gave them out as birthday gifts.

For those CM's that don't receive cash tips, the Walmart and/or Target gift cards come in handy. I know a bus does take CM's from the port to the local Walmart and/or Target when the ship is docked at Port Canaveral.

I've heard than many of the CM's now have cell phones, so the phone cards might not be needed as much.

Stuff Survivor, my one tip would be not to pack too much stuff. It has been said many times on these boards to pack and then take out half of your stuff. You will not need nearly as much as you think you will.

Don't know if you have any excursions planned. DH and I have never booked an excursion. We simply take a taxi where we want to go or for a tour of the island. Not only is it cheaper but you can come and go whenever you want.

Okay everyone I need help!!!

DH and I were filling out all 6 of the Bahama Immigration forms we got with our documents, and then after we were done DH said do you think we filled these out right? So I already emailed my TA, but wanted to check with you guys to see if we did it right, and if we did it wrong, now what do we do???

1. The part where it says date of arrival do I put the Day the cruise ship leaves port or the day we'll be on some island?

2. City where we boarded the ship: Is it Cape Canaveral or Port Canaveral?

3. Also I assume I sign for my kids, but do I sign their name or my name?

Thanks for the help!

Oh and as far as dress wear, I told DH he didn't have to bring his suit, and he could just wear a dress shirt, but he had to wear a tie, and he said good because a tie takes up less room. Men.

We seem to be getting a nice Florida group here.

We're from S Florida and whatever you wear to work is perfect for dinner. (There I go - assuming you work. Maybe you are one of the two who won the big LOTTO last week.) As others have posted the word is jeans are OK.
DD (adult, age-wise) is not a "formal" person; she wears black slacks with a fancy top for formal night. Works fine.

little bunny - I believe they want the date you will be arriving in the Bahamas which would be 5/19/06. Departure City is Port Canaveral. Not sure about signing for kids, sorry.
