Jo- Sorry about the strike. That stinks. I do think sometimes strikes are needed. ( This is coming from a union representative's wife) But I do think teachers are not doing the right thing when it comes to the kids. Can they get some subs that are non union in? It isnt fair to the kids at all or the parents. I feel bad for the parents who depend on schools for their child care.

Can you homeschool them for awhile?

Goom Morning all....

I hope everybody had a great evening last night.....

Mornin everyone!

:surfweb: Nope, the coffee isn't any better today.

The strike is still on. No new news...

Seacrest, as far as having the kids go through a period of playing "catch up " when they get back-- that's why I am for year round school. The kids went to one in AR and it was fabulous. Their school and another year round school consistently scored MUCH higher than the traditional calendar schools in town, as far as test scores go. The children just benefit so much from it.

Huggie, Thanks.:goodvibes I understand that the teachers here want a pay raise. However, the cost of living here does not justify what they are asking for. Not many people I know get a 6-7% pay raise. Okay, no one I know, unless you get a promotion within a big business. My DH was a teacher after college and he just rolls his eyes at the things they are saying. It's getting pretty ugly down here. Surveys, flyers, a lot of finger pointing, no one wanting to give in. *Sigh* I just want my children to go to school.

Did I tell you that on the last day of school (Friday) the 9th and 10th graders staged a walk out, saying that if the teachers can walk out on us, we'll do the same thing. Well, the police were called, three kids were tackled to the ground and they were all threatened with suspension. It's not fair. The Seniors may not have all of their classes for their transcripts ready for college. They may have to delay a semester. It's unbelievable.

Okay vent over.

Did anyone else have a dream about Disney last night?? I did! Right before bed, we saw a commercial for WDW. The one where the mom is at the computer and says look, honey... and the carriage comes rolling through the neighborhood.
So I said "Look, Baby..." and Dh says well, book one. :scared1: (Heart in throat). Really? I say. Do you mean it? And he says yeah, for tomorrow. He just really is playing with me.:sad2:

Well, having no credit card debt is a wonderful thing. It just takes all the fun out of things sometimes.:rotfl:

Hope you all are doing okay. Sorry for the Novella.

Hey Jo don't worry you can vent here. That is horrible what they did to the kids but now we see what these strikes teach the kids. it's horrible. Oh I love that commercial. you should book the vacation and then if your dh asks tell him but you said so....:rotfl2: i wish i had no cc debt. college killed me.

Jo

That sounds horrible. I feel so bad for everyone involved. The teachers really should work while bargaining. They are being selfish. That is some pay raise they want.

yeah so just to be curious i've been loooking at airfare. i remember a while ago one of my uncles that works at continental told me that it's cheaper to buy ticket's on wed. So i have been loooking at continental, yesterday i was looking at tickets and they came out to $968 today the exact same ones come out to $550 approx. now i know to buy continental on wed. i like these because they are direct flights no stops..... we'll see what happens.

Wow! That is some difference! Don't you already feel like you saved some money when you see stuff like that, and you haven't even bought the tix yet, LOL.:lmao:

Aren't you the smart MAYer????:snooty:

As far as the CC debt...
we have been debt free so many times in our lives...only to start it up again. I"m sick of debt. It's killing me, but cash only purchases are all I'm able to do. UGH. I guess that's why it's so hard to get DH to say ok to a trip. If we had a big balance on a cc he'd probably say lets do it, since we were already in the hole!

Jo

Huggie~

How's little 'Bella doing? Feeling better, I hope!:goodvibes

Isabelle is doing much better, She has bad allergies. The doc gave her zyrtec, and some nose spray. All the allergies gave her the beginnings of an ear infection, so she has antibotic for that. But she is in much better spirits.

I just finished cleaning the house, so I hope that helps her.

I hear you about cc debt. Dh doesnt like to have any. He is all about paying the cc bill off every month. But the disney trip I put on the disney visa. That has financing. Which is nice. That is how Disney reels you in.

Ok,

My question of the day. It is non Disney:scared1:

How many times do you clean/dust the house?

I feel like that is all I do. I do a good cleaning at least 3x a week. It is crazy. I am sweeping at least 3x a day and vaccuuming 2x a day and constantly straightening up. UGH. I cant take it anymore.

I feel that too. I work from home so I never leave both of my jobs. :rotfl:

OMG! How much fun is it to meet a MAYer?:rolleyes1

Okay, I'm going to tell you! It is so much fun to meet someone that you talk to on a daily basis and have never laid eyes on each other!:goodvibes

Shelly's "baby" gets the cutest kid ever award!!! He is so precious! He brought his Disney Picture book for us to look at. Aww, how sweet.

We did not buy the whole place out. Mary Cat (DD age 12) got a pair of jeans from Aeropostale for...

wait for it...

$5.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was like OMG!!!!!

I bought my Mom some Christmas presents and some other stuff. It was a great trip. Until...

I got in the car and had a flat tire! :sad2: Well, almost flat. I was able to get to a place to get it repaired. Darn nail. Oh well. The kids had a blast. Shelly, thanks for meeting up with us!

And, MAYer peeps, how was YOUR Tuesday????

Jo

Great deal on the jeans!! You can really get some good deals there if you look hard enough!

Sorry about the flat tire.

We had a nice time yesterday. DS 6 and I now sit here today having a boring lunch without our "Disney friends"!

Hi Sulley! I'm so happy for you ~ A Disney trip and a Disney job! :goodvibes

Hey Shelly....Thanks!

Anyone have suggestions of good places to make ADRs? I want to try some more new restaurants during my pre-CP stay and right now the only one I've come up with for sure is Chef Mickey's for breakfast...I want to eat a table service meal in World Showcase, but don't know where yet.

Thanks, Seacrest.:goodvibes As far as the teachers go and their salaries...
they are wanting a 6-7% increase in pay, the district has said 4% and no more. The teachers don't want to contribute $20 (!!!!!) towards healthcare; they want it for *free*.

And, now we have heard that the strike will go on for a long time. So to get the mandatory # of days in, the children might be required to go on Christmas Eve. Yes, I said Christmas Eve. They will be off for Chrismas Day and New Years Day, but they will have to go the days in between.:sad2:

Sorry, not my kids. We were willing to go to school now, the teachers weren't, so that is just too bad. Put me in jail, but my children will be allowed to have a Christmas Break. They will not be punished for a decision the teachers have made.

I know your wife was a teacher. Do they have to belong to a Union out there???

Just wondering how it is in Cali.

Jo

OMG JO! That just really stinks! Especially considering that they listed all of the teachers salaries in the paper and they are all well above average already! What in the world makes them think that they deserve so much more than everyone else??? If they end up getting what they want they will just drive people out of the area from such high taxes. The taxes are already high enough down there! Most people who live in my town actually work down there but live up here because of the lower cost of living, lower taxes, and smaller schools. We just end up paying more in gas for the commute! :confused3 You just can't win!

You might have to consider home schooling like Huggie said, or even private school if this continues on as long as they expect. Hopefully it won't go on that long!

I wouldn't send my kids to school Christmas week either! It's not their fault!

JO - Tell your DH that telling you to book a Disney trip is nothing to joke about!! :rotfl: I love that commercial too! Sorry the big sigh didn't work. :sad2:

It's not really cc debt if it is interest free, right?!? :rotfl: Well at least that's what I like to tell myself about our Disney trip on our Disney Visa!

Still no great airline deals as of yet. :sad1: I checked Continental today Mari and it was $956 total. Way to much! I will just keep searching everyday.
