DVC Beds…. Why?

I want a king too so that part makes sense.

I guess what you're saying is that it's more the psychological factor of "a bed I have to pull down is less-than" versus "this bed will make me sleep worse in some way."

I think some people might be objecting to the Murphy beds because they think they're literally WORSE beds, that's the part I wanted to clarify.

Its that my wife rolls around everywhere at night lol and yes I find the queen to be more comfortable than the murphy, I like the top blanket better and I sleep better.

The murphy is comfortable tho, it feels different to me, maybe because its lower? The mattress feels thinner, idk why. I just wish that queen was a king for us both.

The could certainly do the duo studios as kings vs queens since they are already a category.

But, for the other studios, unless they start new and make them all that way without compromising size…it just makes it more complicated for booking purposes.

Do the Murphy beds come with a King Bed option because that would be the only roadblock?

For us, having the extra space is more important than having a larger bed.

Then again, I’ll book a 1 bedroom at times when it’s just me.

I think the Novabed only comes in one size... but I might just not be seeing a King option.

It's been a few years but the last I did the math using a super elaborate model with time value of money, opportunity cost, etc. I think I came out to 2 bedroom villas being right around 50%, studios being slightly better, 1 bedrooms being quite a bit worse, and specialty accommodations like bungalows and treehouses all over the place.

I also believe from a marketing/sell DVC points standpoint they could easily make the case...

Grand Floridian - Deluxe Studio $850 a night or so in September 2026 including taxes - no discounts available right now (though that will almost certainly change)
Grand Floridian - Deluxe Studio - 17 points per night in the same travel period. Non-complicated math - all in cost of say $13/pp initial buy in + one year of dues = $221 per night

Savings of over 70%

DVCs publicity department isn't to be a financial planner or explain why $850 a night is unlikely to be a reasonable price in September, or how realistic that $13/pp initial buy in + dues will be - especially over the long term with dues increases, etc.

They are not the same mattress. The murphy bed mattress is thinner, perhaps without a pillow top? I'm not sure the exact difference but it is thinner and not quite as comfortable as the full-time Queen bed.

Disney is a big enough buyer, I'm sure they could order King murphy beds if they wanted to. The question is would it be too heavy for guests to pull down, are the ceiling/soffits high enough to accommodate the larger mattress, etc.

They just need to make the room taller then, we Disney couples need our kings!

I will once again be the toddler banging on his high chair about how DVC needs to build some King Studios for married couples traveling without kids. It's the biggest gap in their inventory IMO.

I agree, a studio with a king would have super high demand. But given that studios with queens (and duo studios with queens) get booked up faster than almost any category, there's no incentive for DVC to provide them.

There's almost always good availability in 1br over the other room sizes. They are the gateway drug to buying more points. Why would DVC make king beds even more available for lower points?

When we first bought in to DVC, our younger kid was a baby. We bought points at BLT thinking (ha, rookie moveI) that we could go once a year and alternate studios and 1br. Well, by the time points were loaded, we had banked points to burn and fewer studios to choose from, and our first stay at BLT was in a 1br. After that, we only stayed in studios that had a murphy - we could put DD1 in the single murphy and a crib/pack and play, and the studio STILL HAD A SOFA. It felt so luxurious.

That first DVC stay in a BLT 1br really spoiled us - 2 bathrooms and our own room! Of course we started looking at more resale contracts right away...

Fast forward several years, we have always booked at least a 1br (and sometimes a 2br) with our tween and teen who don't always want to share a bed, even though they are very sisterly to each other. DH and I get a big bed and our own room, and the kids can decide how they allocate the sleeping surfaces in the living room (or 2nd bedroom).

They could be smaller square footage, so more units in a building, so more points to sell.
