May 10 2014 Disney Fantasy Western Caribbean Cruise Meet

Just booked our cruise yesterday...very excited to cruise on the Fantasy for the first time. This will be the 5th Disney cruise for most us. Looking forward to chatting and planning with everyone has we countdown to May.

Hey Everyone! I just came off of a 7 night WC on the Fantasy and am so happy to see a community already started for the next cruise! I will be sailing with my DS who will be 5 and DM. I would love to be part of this group! I always love getting tips and tricks from other DCL cruisers and meeting new friends! Before you know it we will be at the Sail Away Party on board the beautiful disney Fantasy!

What is a FE? I keep seeing posts about joining and have no idea what it is. It's been awhile since our last cruise (2007), so I'm very curious about things that DIS members do on the cruise. Do guests decorate their doors?...I've decorated our resort windows on WDW trips and really enjoyed it.

Hey! An FE is a fish extender! Those is the group who wish to join the FE portion of the group exchange gifts throughout the cruise. A fish extender is a hanging group of pockets that hang from either the fish (port side of the ship) or starfish (starboard side). The pockets are for each person traveling in the group.

You can make them yourself or purchase them on sites such as ebay or etsy.

Hope this helps!

That's right, I'm sorry I forgot. How do you compare DCL to the others?

We had a great time on both the RCCL and NCL cruises. The RCCL cruise and one of the NCL cruises were taken a while ago before we had our daughter so it is hard to compare those with Disney. If we would compare our cruise on the NCL Epic with our cruise on the DCL Fantasy, the Fantasy wins hands down for us. Again, we had a great vacation on the NCL Epic but the Disney Fantasy won us over. We were really impressed with the overall experience on the Fantasy, including the beauty of the ship, the attentive CM's and the kids club. We had a hard time keeping our daughter out of the kids club on the Fantasy!

Thanks for the FE info. Sounds like it would be fun to participate. Can anyone join or is just for rooms with kids? Also, how do you join?

Welcome! I've only been on the EC, did you do any excursions on your WC? I'm trying to get ideas :)

Thanks :) I love hearing about other lines, maybe if I hear enough positive reviews I'll be able to venture out since DCL doesn't go to a lot of locations I'd like to cruise to. I've heard that about the kids clubs, kids just don't want to leave!

My husband (ERS26), our daughter and I Love, Love, Love the Fantasy and while we were on in May (Eastern), we rebooked for the Western for next year.

Welcome! I've only been on the EC, did you do any excursions on your WC? I'm trying to get ideas :)

My family and I really only did 1 Disney excursion in Cozumel. We went to Dolphinaris and did the child's dolphin interaction. It was nice, but I did not feel like the facility was ready for the amount of children that participated because they had all of us in an area where the kids could not even touch the bottom of the area. All the kids in the group were four and some freaked out more than others and it made participation a little difficult! I think if I cook another dolphin experience it will be in Grand Cayman! I really have not decided! I also snorkeled in Castaway Cay....I would do that again if I have my own gear! It will be interesting to see what excursions are offered in Jamaica!!!

Thanks so much :) too bad some of the kids were scared, I'm sure they had to have it deep enough for the dolphins. I'm not sure we'll get off the ship much but I'm curious what people have enjoyed. We took our own snorkeling gear last year since we really don't like using other snorkels.

Joining in here. We rebooked onboard for this cruise while on the May 11, 2013 Western. We are really looking forward to seeing what DCL puts out as far as excursions in Jamaica.

We swam with the dolphins in Grand Cayman this year, and would recommend it to anyone. It was very well organized and well done. The turtles were fun to see as well. We did the Tulum Ruins on our Cozumel stop and it was also very well done, with the exception of the lunch (yuck-a cold cut sandwich with cheese that was already warm/melty when handed to you at 10:00). Our tour guide was great!

I think that we will do either the Secret River or Xcaret next year for our Cozumel stop. Not sure on Grand Cayman, we may just stay on the ship and enjoy it as if it were a sea day.

We've done the Grand Cayman island tour and swam with the dolphins in Cozumel. We booked the dolphin excursion through a different company b/c it offered better options...would definitely recommend this. We've also done the glassbottom boat tour on Castaway Cay (not worth it), parasailing (loved it), swam with the stingrays (not me but my sisters loved it) and rent snorkeling equipment. As of right now we don't plan on booking any excursions except maybe parasailing and renting snorkeling equipment again. Looking forward to just walking around the ports some, visiting Margaritavilla and then just really relaxing on the boat. There's so much to on the ship, we felt like we missed a lot b/c of previously booked excursions.

I've done a swim with Dolphins on Jamaica and we really had a great time. The water was deeper where we swam but they required life jackets (which I understand but felt silly wearing) but my feet never came close to the bottom. I think the Dolphins need more clearance than I do LOL. But the did have a meet the Dolphins (touch, get a kiss ect) that allowed everyone to keep their feet on a submerged dock area. Obviously though this was not swimming with the Dolphins - more of an interaction type meeting.

The interacton excursion was offered by Disney. The one we book seperately allowed us to swim with them...and sucked us into buying the video, too.
