Here is my story for today. I had a TERRIBLE work day. Sometimes I just hate my job. I wish I could figure out how to quit and still feed my family.
I went to the hospital at 4:30pm and they had just taken out Frank's ventalator. He was able to breathe on his own!! But in the CVICCCU (CardioVascular Intensive Critical Cardiac Care Unit) all the rooms are all glass.
Frank's door was shut (looks like a sliding glass door) and there was a HUGE sign DO NOT ENTER ISOLATION. See nurses station before entering. Then there was all these other rule signs.....wash hands for 2 minutes, wear gloves, wear gown, ...plus more I can't remember.
I went to the nurses station and he has a bacterial infection and he will be in isolation for 10-12 days. They did not seem very worried about it?? Anyway I followed all the rules and went in. It was so good to hear him say a few words. He did keep asking me why his wife (my DMIL) was not there (she passed away 2 1/2 years ago). He kept asking for my DH. I was allowed to swab water inside his mouth (first water he has had for a week) and he LOVED that. I asked for vaseline for his lips and they gave it to me. I stayed for about 3 hours. Much longer than I had planned, but he did not want me to leave. I didn't want to leave either....but I was getting really tired and it is a long drive home from the hospital.
I guess all in all it is a good report for Frank. Certainly better than yesterday...except for the infection. Tomorrow he will start PT, if he is still doing good.
Thanks again for all the prayers and concern
