:cool1: :cool1: :woohoo: Very cool. I'm glad you are getting sprung. I have only had to stay in the hospital once back in 93 when I had my Gallbladder removed. I know how you feel. I did not like it very much at all.

I hope you all have a magical trip.:thumbsup2

Venetia, of all the people that I love to see posting here, I want to see more of you the most...you've got to get back on that horse girl....and what better way to do it than with your DISer family and Mickey! Seriously, I want to see you on here everyday reading and posting. We can help heal your pain. Can't make it go away...but we can help you through it. Stick it out with us, please, give it a try....EVERY day I want to see you on here joining in with our silly but oh so important banter. If I can do it, you can do it! Come on Sister.....what's up! What did you do today???? Any plans for tomorrow? What did you have for dinner? What's your favorite music? See any good movies lately? Come on...talk to us. Talk about losing your mom, if that's all you want to talk about...it's ok. Tell us one of your funniest memories of being with her.

I'll share something with you...when I got to my room at the hospital, all the nurses came to me and said, "You look so familiar, have you been in before?" I replied, nope never been admitted before, but I've been up here many, many times with my mom. Mom has been to every hospital in two counties more than once in the last year. I know them all. Then, less than three weeks after mom's funeral, here I am getting admitted. When you think it can't get any worse and then it gets worse, you gotta dig deep inside and keep your chin up and come out fighting.

I will expect to hear from you soon.....BIG HUGS!!!!!

Thanks for the invite
We are doing MNSSHP on oct 21st. Im going to look at my schedule when I go back thurs, I may come up there by myself as tom works every fri and would be great to have a mini meet :)

YEAHHHHH I would LOVE to party with you at Mickey's World or even Downtown Disney...check your schedule, coz we have lots of champagne cheers coming our way together!
:cutie: :thumbsup2 :cutie:

Any Big Brother watchers, don't forget that two of the house-guests are on the power of 10 tonight. Right near the beginning of the show.

Its about 20 miutes north of me.When I did home care had a client up there and would have to eat lunch there everyday and then on way home somethimes hit the greek bakery. Just walking in that place was an instant 10 lbs

OK, this is where I would love to have our miniDISmeet....I need some Baklava, have you ever tried it? To die for, sooooo decadent, but soooooo necessary in life. For those of you who don't know, it's a Greek desert that my mom always made at home for Greek Easter. It's filo dough (paper thin and coated with butter on both sides) layered like a lasagna with chopped walnuts and cinnamon and I think brown sugar then coated with a honey syrup....it's sweet and chrunchy and mushy all at the same time.

So Heather, want to meet at the Greek bakery????;) ;)

Thanks for the explanation I've been curious as to what it was.

You're welcome!

Yea!!!! Recovery is so much easier when in familiar places (plus you can get back to watching Big Brother After Dark - I'm going to guess the hospital doesn't have Showtime)

YEAHHHHHH BB After Dark....I've lost touch with it, but I'm happy to be back and won't miss it now....nope no Showtime in the Hospital.

I think its 923 ;) (well probably from this post around 915 or so)

First day of school tomorrow for Sophia.

And . . .

I have to take her out early to attend her brother's ceremony. We were looking for the paperwork she needs to take to school tomorrow, and guess what? Her aunt took her shopping for school supplies over the weekend, and took all the paperwork back with her to Toledo!

Glad I took the day off. Guess I will take a trip to the office to fill out the paperwork!

Just figures it is the dorky school board member!

One of our fellow DIS cruisers (11/06 Double Dip) was from Tenneesee, a lovely couple (ALISBARC) - not sure if you've ever run into him but lovely lovely people. I remember the first time I'd ever been thru TN - (from IN originally) my SIL and I were driving from NW IN to N.C. I just fell in love with the mountains there. The way the clouds would hover just over the tops of the mountains. Just beautiful. We really have a beautiful country don't we?

I also love the mountains in upstate NY - gorgeous! I'm sorry but I feel like breaking out in song ... (This land is your land... this land is my land... from)

Sorry...:upsidedow

I fell lucky to live here (and the weathers not bad).

Deb- Glad to see you back home. Get some much needed TLC!

Holly- Good Luck with Tyler. He seems so sweet most of the time.

V- Have fun at WDW

I am trying to plan a trip with my mom and one of he co-workers to WDW Sept26-Oct 1. All I need is a plane ticket. Unfotualty a cheap one is hard to find. They will be in meetings most the time but I have no pronlem being at WDW alone.

It was a LOOOOOONG Day getting out of there, but soooooooooooo worth it coz now I'm back here!!!!!!

I just caught up reading all your posts and I'm going back to reread and post back coz I can't remember each one, there were so many....

For right now, Goodnight Marilyn, see ya in the morning! Sweet Mickey Dreams!

Holly, it's the place not the person....something is provoking Tyler at that day care. It could be something in a toy that he plays with that he gets a reaction to....i.e., lead in paint....kind of thing. BUT it is definitely Some Thing, it's not Tyler. Don't send him back if possible for the last three days....you'll probably find out that he has a condition or is allergic to something....In the meantime, you still have to be the mom and stick to your guns and make him realize there are consequences no matter what. His behavior is not acceptable.

I remember when Tom and Kris DGSs were 2 and 3 years old, Sandi DD was going to school nights and me and John were on "night" care for the kids everynight. I would punish Tom in the corner on time out, he would say what he did wrong and sorry then kiss and hug and it was over. I would punish Kris in the corner on time out, he would not say what he did wrong and sorry, so he got to stay there longer. This went on continuously for long periods of time. When Kris got older, he was diagnosed with ADHD. It's under control now, but when he was just 2, we didn't know. I felt guilty for all the extra punishment time....but he still needed to know his behavior was not acceptable.

You will figure it out and then it'll be easier for both of you. Good Luck, Hugs and Pixie Dust!:cloud9:  :cloud9:
I'm so glad you're home because that's truly where you wanted to be.

Thanks for your ideas too! I'd love to keep Tyler home from day care the last 3 days, but I just can't. My boss would never let me have more days off because they let me have lots off for finals. And I just can't afford losing any more pay. I know Tyler comes first, but I have to have those hours on my paycheck this Friday. :sad2:

His dad called to see how he was today and was shocked that he had 2 bad days in a row. He asked me why the heck does Tyler think it's OK to just start punching kids and why is he doing that. Ummm.....sorry, my crystal ball is broken today. I jokingly told him, "Well, I've mentioned to my dad before that the kid just isn't quite right!" :rotfl: He got SO offended and really mad that I'd imply that anything is wrong with Tyler and that there's nothing abnormal about him at all. Um....sure....it's absolutely normal to just bite a kid for no reason and punch kids who are minding their own business....yup, totall normal. NOT! :sad2: A bit of denial there.

That didn't last!

HA HA HA HA HA :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No . . . just like in the John Lennon song . . . "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans . . ." Life keeps getting in the way. If I were a single guy with no responsibilities, this ship would have left the port. But with everything going on, one kid in college, another one in 2nd grade, mortgage, house payment, bills, and cruises, I am finding it hard to devote time or dedication to my plan. It is frustrating me too!

I LOVE that Lennon line, so true, so true....Don't let it beat you up, John. Think of it as a weekend hobby for now and when you find ten minutes, do one thing towards that end....don't put expectations on yourself and added pressure...and it will happen, slowly, over time. My Beatles mantra lately has been....Let It Be! So do what you can, when you can and the rest of the time, just let it be!

Strong and stubborn seem to go together Deb. They also seem to be very Greek traits. Our people did not survive the mountains and the oceans, invent democracy, government, the theater, and philosophy by being weak. Your post brought a tear to my eye.

.....reminds me of a class I took at NYU....Greek Political and Philosophical Thought....we read and discussed Socrates....The Republic. I loved that class. Guess we have come a long way and the road to hoe, as they say...

I keep telling my brother and sister, there is nothing either of us could have done to change what happened. Mom did what she wanted to do. It still makes me sad though, and I still cannot believe she is gone.

The thing I'm most proud of at the end with my mom is that I let her do it her way....I know she was happy all the way....she did what she wanted on her terms and that's the way she wanted it and I feel good about allowing her that. Sounds like you should be proud of doing the same.

I'm not really sure that I KNOW that she's gone. I've been way to busy with so many things that I keep pushing those thoughts away....another place, another time, another day.

Would you like to join the small group of us....Venetia and Bubba, Jackie (and probably Peg), Karen and family, me and John....that are getting together on Mother's Day on Castaway Cay to do a memorial for our lost moms...a poem, some roses and balloons, maybe at Serenity Bay early in the day. I think it would be a nice tribute....then we can all hug and go play. Think about it. We'd love to share with you and your family too.

:cloud9:  :cloud9: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Any Big Brother watchers, don't forget that two of the house-guests are on the power of 10 tonight. Right near the beginning of the show.

Love BB, although this season has been harder for me because there really isn't anyone that I love! The group just didn't seem to connect as in other years. But, I am excited to see Power of 10 and who wins and how much they win!

Kaylee, same here, no one makes me want to defend them. But it is one of the few first run shows on in the summer.

I have cousins in Tarpon, and we have visited there several times. Gyros are like Greek cheeseburgers - fast food. Deb reminded me of some of my favorite dishes - Greek Green Beans, like only my Mom could make them (all vegetarian, with celery and carrots in a tomato base), Avgolemono soup, boiled spinach with just a bit of Olive Oil and salt, boiled Endive and Dandelions with Olive oil and salt (Horta), and of course, Feta cheese.

YUM YUM....now I'm going to start singing...these are a few of my favorite things...

Wouldn't it be great if we could all get together somewhere in the middle of the country and each bring a dish or two of our favorite ethnic childhood foods. I would love to do that with all of you guys!

Miss Mary Mac
Traditional
Miss Mary Mac, Mac, Mac
All dressed in black, black, black.
With silver buttons, buttons, buttons
All down her back, back, back.
She asked her mother, mother, mother
For 50 cents, cents, cents.
To see the elephants, elephants, elephants
Jump over the fence, fence, fence.
They jumped so high, high, high
They reached the sky, sky, sky
They never came back, back, back
Till the 4th of July, July, July.
I've never heard that version before....very cute! I'd only heard the one Deb posted. I remember doing that in Brownies and Girl Scouts.

Probably been answered, but just North of Tampa, very near Vanessa in Sarasotta on the West Coast. The area attracted Greek fishermen because of the Sponges that were plentiful off the coast. If you have seen the "diving for the cross" at Epiphany, that is at Tarpon Springs. Large Greek community, and a beautiful Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

Pardon my ignorance....but what do you mean by sponges??? the kind we clean with or are they some kind of food to eat? I just don't have a clue!

YES, I have seen the diving for the cross...used to watch it with my grandmother every year on her "Greek TV station". I would love to visit there....sounds like a road trip!
 :sad2:

Spending my night reading all you guys chatting.

Holly, I am sorry for Tyler, but you have to be strong. Someday, you both will look back and laugh...that is where I am now with my kids.

Deb, I am so sorry you have been so sick. I am glad you are on the mend. Please take care and get well. I want to see you at the beach this fall.

YES I have to make up for lost time...I missed this whole summer!

I have been so busy with my mom. She has moved in with me....remember all the talks we had about our moms. I keep thinking about our different situations....two strong headed mom's, but I still have my mom. Stay strong, all will be better.

You too, it's not easy doing what you're doing, but so worth it! Give her lots of hugs!

As far as Vanessa goes, she made it Sunday morning at 8am to Reagan instead of Dulles. She is beautiful and sweet. We have already fallen in love with her and are glad to welcome her into our family!!

Well your DIS family is just waiting for those pics of your new daughter!!!!!

Daniel is doing well at Tech......my life is just crazy. Sorry for the drive by posting.....I will try and stay up,
Lisa

We will be here when you can be here too! We're always thinking of you even when you're busy....you have got quite a lot on your plate....it just makes our trip together even more worthwhile.

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I LOVE Baklava, but can never find any good enough. I was spoiled by the "real" stuff growing up! My stepmom worked as a cashier for 40 years at a drug store owned by a Greek family. Her direct bosses were a husband and wife (they had 2 sons who would hang out in the store all the time and eventually became her boss when their dad developed Alzheimer's) and his mom came over from Greece. She didn't speak much English, but she very frequently sent Baklava home with my stepmom. Yummy! I've never tasted any like hers.

I'm so glad you're home because that's truly where you wanted to be.

Thanks for your ideas too! I'd love to keep Tyler home from day care the last 3 days, but I just can't. My boss would never let me have more days off because they let me have lots off for finals. Like they say - men see it one way and women see it another. Hang in there, it can only get better!

Hi Deb,
It's so nice to see you on the boards and "hear" you sounding like your old chipper self!:thumbsup2

Thanks Cheri, there's no place else I'd rather be....other than on the ship with all of you right now....it's good to be home!

The reunion is coming along really well! There are over 50 alumni coming (out of a class of 130, with 20 passed away that we know of)--a lot more than I thought would be there. We'll have enough money to pay for everything and even reimburse people who have fronted money (like me, I'm in charge of centerpieces. I'm also making a DVD to show at the dinner). Several of my old friends are coming and I'm very excited to see everyone. The only downside of the whole thing is that it almost certainly will be HOT HOT HOT--central AZ in mid September is pretty miserable.:headache: But I'll survive!

What an awesome time you're going to have, great turnout too. I love the idea of the DVD to show at dinner....will it be then or now?....so does that mean you'll be available to do one for us when we do our reunion cruise in say five or ten years??? :rotfl2:

Like they say - men see it one way and women see it another. Hang in there, it can only get better!
So true, so true! I'm still looking for one who'll see things my way....ALL the time! :rotfl2: Well, a woman can dream, right! :rotfl: :lmao:
