Angie, I know a great 1/2 way stop!

Yep, that's what we were thinkin'! It really will have to wait a few months though. We need some self discipline here!

We used to have these pineapples on the end of our four poster bed, I would pull one off every time I had to investigate. I bet I would have scared a lot of burglers with my pineapples!
You guys are giving me heart failure with all this university cost talk. DD is going to put me in the poor house with her skating costs. We are already at 5 days a week on the ice + competition costs, hotels, and can I just tell you how much skates cost every few months when her feet grow? And now I have to save more than my retirement for the university. Anyone know how to rob a bank?
She loves to skate. She is very shy and one day I asked her why she liked competing. She said she is really nervous until she gets on the ice, then she said it goes away and everything is fun! If you could see her smile while she is skating, compared to any other sport, dancing, gymnastics, swimming, anything, it's just different. She just turned 7, but people are telling us that many parents take thier kids out of school and that there are 10 year olds skating for 4-6 hours a day. I really don't know how long that would be fun for her.
As for watching her, the first time was cake. I was just so proud of my shy child for skating out there in front of those judges I just cried. She was so nervous, her little legs just shook. She got 5th place. The second time, all I wanted was for her to to better than the first time. So, I was a little sick to my stomach, and was too nervous to take pictures, but I watched. She won. 1st Place. Last time, I wanted to drug myself into oblivion for 3 days before. I was so upset I could not even watch. I forced myself to watch her and I was just sick all day. She made one error and got 2nd, and she was fine! I was a wreck! No way did I want her to know any of this, so I faked it. She has spring show in 2 weeks. Not a big deal, no judging, then we start skate season again. She has a really big competition in Sun Valley this year, and can I tell you how much those rooms are. I figure if I am still totally wacked at the May competition I am going to ask my Dr. for something to turn me into a normal mom. So yes, it makes me nervous, but I am so proud of her!!!!! Really, she has worked with professionals at the university because she was so shy as a 3-4 year old. She has come a long way!!!! And, she skates WAY better than me! I love watching her spin.
Funny thing about this whole ankle thing is, the very first thing I thought after falling was....Thank God this didn't happen a year from now. I would probably have to miss the cruise!
That just sounds great for her! Good luck to you both!DD's friend just turned 10, so that follows what you heard. We went to see Ice Princess with a bunch of girls and the skater's mom was there proudly telling everyone that she was going to be just like the "jumping shrimp's" mom...short, obnoxious and in your face (her words!). Sounds like your DD is doing great. And Sun Valley....what a beautiful place. You should enjoy it. So, were you a skater too?

LOL!!I hear CHOCOLATE helps too! (Ingested, not applied!)
Karen....sorry you were all alone "saving" our post for us! Great job. Hope you had a great night sleep.
Thanks for that info....but it doesn't say where the nearest car rental companies are from there. And how to get to them coming off the boat. Could one have car service or a cab waiting?![]()
Enterprise is close by. Try this link: port of los angeles
Not open on a Sunday though!!!I hope they do on our Sunday next May. I read a post somewhere about taking a cab to a nearby airport that has 2 rental car firms there.
Well, that's annoying! You'd think DCL would arrange some sort of transportation to a car rental agency for this one day.
My Freaky Night....
Why is it that strange things always happen when DH is away?and they always happen in the middle of the night?

Last night about 1230, I noticed my dogs were walking all over me...like they were trying to wake me up. Then I realized I was hearing my garage door openOK, I was pretty sure DH didn't
from Savannah and I know I didn't open it. I was scared, but not awake enough to really think it was happening. Went downstairs and checked and sure enough the garage door was open and the light was on (which meant that it had just opened within the past 10 minutes or so)! Shut it quickly....looked at my pathetic excuses for guard dogs...did a door and window check and then sat on the couch for a while trying to figure it out. Never did figure it out
Finally fell asleep around 3 after I was certain there was no one else in the house!!!!!
I think probably a car will be the best option really with travelling around later. I have always wanted to do a long train journey. I have seen so many films set on trains and it is impossible to go too far in the UK on a train. Mind you most of the films have had bombs on the trains, bad people of various sorts terrorising passengers, loose couplings and runaway carriages or out of control trains!!!![]()
Hey Woody, How long have you lived in that area? When I was a kid (50s and 60s) my family went to Manhattan or Hermosa for vacation every summer. We started staying at the Sea Sprite after it was built in '58. I have very fond memories of going down to the Redondo pier in those days. In the REALLY old days there was a "kiddie land" w/rides. I also fondly remember the Fish Peddler restaurant with the homemade potato chips! My parents would listen to jazz at the Lighthouse and Rumsey's jazz place there at the pier.
My house smells wonderful - fresh bread!![]()

Just taken a loaf out of the bread maker - half wholemeal, half white flour with seeds, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, millet, linseed, pumpkin and sunflower. Oh I just want to get a knife into the loaf right now! Another reason why my diet hasn't gone too well!

EW, That hurts...I'm so sorry, I thought you would have better news. John, this is not good. I know what it's like to watch the decline...you know it's the beginning of the end, you just don't know how long you'll have with him still. That's how it is with me and mom. At least they're still with you and you know to cherish every moment you have.

Deb,
We ship any quantity!! It's just more cost effective to ship MORE!!
I will still give you the 10% case discount on a half case, if that is what you would like.
Just let me know, and I will do it for you tomorrow (Monday)
Karen
Baking bread smells take me back to my childhood. My grandmother used to bake all the loaves of bread on Sundays for the week. Those were the days when we NEVER ate store bought bread!!
I still love fresh baked brown bread with butter!!
I had to give up on the butter, but you can't beat it! I like it thick!!!![]()
That Smart Balance tastes "almost" as good...
Our friend's mother is over 101 and still lives on her own in a small old house with steep steps up to her bedroom and bathroom!! She still goes out shopping and walks to the church. Up to a few years ago she still did cross stitch.![]()
Ok, just talking to myself now. I'm taking a break from cleaning the house after getting back from Tahoe. We got back around midnight last night. We had left right after Easter so there is still chocolate hiding in corners. Trying to debate when to wean the little one off the bottle (he is 16 months). It came up this morning because we couldn't find a bottle in the house so for his first nap we didn't give me one. But by the time the second nap came around, we found it so...no will power for any of us. He went to sleep like an angel. When do you all think is a good time? Our oldest two didn't have an issue - it was gone by 18 months. Our third just hung on to it like it was his lifeline. He was 2 1/2 years. He also didn't become potty-trained until 4. Just likes to take his time. Not sure what this fourth one will be like. The surprise of it all!
