Just have to tell you all - we're going on the Dec 2nd 4 night Wonder!!!:yay: It is on hold at the moment and we will pay the deposit tonight!! I wish some of you were going to be onboard though.

Just be sure and leave everything 'ship shape' for Thursday when I get on!

Oh, and I love halibut too, but it is another expensive fish here. I did have halibut at WDW last time - I think and the GFC, but not sure. It was very nice.:)
Cod seems to be the most popular 'everyday' fish here but I prefer haddock.

And what EXACTLY is 'plaice'? I think that's how it was spelled. Every tour we did that included a meal, we could choose from chicken, gammon and plaice. I knew gammon was ham, but could never figure out what kind of fish was plaice ?:confused3

Well over here we don't need them until we go to out of the UK, but we do go abroad quite often, so therefore people generally get them quite early in life. We have never been able to use just a birth certificate etc in my lifetime.
It was thought that we wouldn't need them to go within the European community, but in reality they are needed for getting back into the UK, for which I am very pleased these days!

We've been spoiled by not needing passports for some travel. And many Americans never travel outside the U.S. at all. IMHO, I don't understand the fuss some are making over the requirement to have passports now. In today's global climate, I just think it's wise. Like you, I am happy that passports are needed to get back into our home country.

I do have a confesion to make to my UK friends, (and anyone else with an accent) I spent many of my younger years and twenties in theatre and I pick up accents very easily. I often end up speaking like the person that has a different accent from myself and often they think that I am making fun of them, but I don't even know that I am doing it!!:cool1:

So, I appologize in advance, just ignore me!!;)

Karen

I do the same thing, so I'll just appologize now too!

Everybody should check their passports. Most countries require that the passport is good for at least 6 months past the time you are travelling.

Now for the long, rambling part. Feel free to skip over this.

I first got a passport in college because of a band trip to Europe. We travelled to East Germany (now you know we're talking about a loooong time ago), and the border crossing was very intense, particularly on the return to West Germany. We all had to get out of the bus while it was searched, and even the larger band instrument cases were opened up to make sure we weren't smuggling anyone across the border. Also, they used these large mirrors on carts to look under the bus. It was all very interesting to us wide-eyed youth from Iowa.

Big difference two years ago when we last visited Europe. We drove all over Europe and never stopped at a border crossing, except into the Czech Republic. You just drive past all these empty border stations. Kind of weird. Also, the boys were a bit disappointed not to get stamps in their passports. DS has had a passport since he was 5 months old. It was pretty funny using it when he was 3 years old. How could anybody tell if it was the same kid. I can definitely see why children's passports need to be renewed every 5 years instead of 10.

Will do!!!:thumbsup2

Plaice is a flat fish and has quite a mild flavour. I haven't eaten any for many years, but do enjoy it.

to those who went on the last Panama sailing, how many pins were special to that cruise? Were there a ton?

V, there was one for every port and one big one for the sailing as a whole, another for PC day. On the WB is was a zoo and people were sleeping in the halls to get a spot in line, on the EB they seems to get the whole pin distribution system fixed. I have pictures in my purse of people with pillows and blankets in the artium, had to show Sasha from Crotia, whom now lives in my city. There may have also been normal Artist choice and Captian's choice pins as well.

I imagine much of the fuss is over the cost, which adds up for large families. It looks like we will be having to get identity cards of some sort in the future and they are wanting to charge us a huge amount!:sad2:

It is very different now on Mainland Europe. We are more vigilant for coming in to our country though.

I don't suppose our cruise will be quite as special with it not being the first trip through the PC.

ahhh...Harry Potter.....

how will it all end??? i know Dumbledore is dead because his portrait showed up in the Headmaster's office. He will still be able to give some advice to Harry this way...besides, he already gave Harry the way Voldermort can be defeated....LOVE (i.e friendship)...(at this point in book 6 i was reminded of the scene in Brother Bear where he was given the love totem...:lmao: )

i think we have all been thinking about another showdown between Harry and Voldemort like the one in book 4 but i do not think we will see another one on one magical fight...i think Voldemort will be defeated by most of the members of the DA, Harry's friends. Voldemort never had anyone close enough that would actually die for him and fight for him because the Death Eaters are doing all this for their own reasons and "glory"...i think we will see a final battle where Harry and his friends, possibly adults friends too, all face Voldemort together......and that is why the power of love can overcome the darkness of voldemort...

that being said...do you think Harry will live at the end?:wizard:

Hi guys,

I wanted to drop a post in here because I have no idea when I will get the opportunity to catch up now , or post . . .

Some of you are aware that we lost my mom the week leading into our cruise with the “Geeks” this last December. I got mom to the hospital the Saturday before our cruise, and by Sunday evening she had passed away. We ended up delaying our trip by a day, and going on the cruise with a heavy heart, which was uplifted by all of our friends here.

Well, yesterday I got a call from where my dad goes for physical therapy that he had passed out while there, and they called 911. So I spent a good part of the day and evening at the hospital yesterday. Dad is in good spirits, and is stable, but they have discovered a clot in each leg, low blood count, and fluid on his heart and his lungs (congestive heart failure). He is now in the coronary unit of our local hospital.

I am optimistic that dad will be fine, and that he is under good care.

We are hopeful for a good prognosis, and hopeful to still leave for a week on Friday.

Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

I am way behind also as DH lost his aunt to cancer last week and the memorial service is today.

Wamest wishes and Regards,

Noel

We have to be careful about our Harry Potter talk here after the book comes out because PJ is going to have to wait to read it. Don't want any spoilers coming out here. Maybe we will have to sneak off to the shipofthieves.com to chat.

There's another whole theory about Dumbledore not really being dead, but it's pretty far fetched. It has something to do with the Avada Kedavra curse that Snape used. Suposedly, every other time it is used in the books, there's a flash of green and the victim falls down dead immediately. But when Snape uses it, Dumbledore goes flying backward over the edge of the tower. Theories abound that Snape or Dumbledore silently did a different spell and he's not really dead. I think it's wishful thinking, but I would be nice. JK Rowling puts so many clues in her books that I totally miss until I go back and reread after having read the next books. She does put in a lot of stuff about silent spells and mind reading (legilemency??) in book 6, so maybe... We'll just have to wait and see.

Sweetie, I work in a bookstore, . I will have the book at store open, although I can get an extra 6% off the cover price via Chapters and get the book at midnight, hmmm. I think that I will re-"read" the second book, then listen to the others before the 7th comes out. But it will be nice to have all 7 on my ipod. I have two copies of each book, the mass market cover and the adult cover.

Talk away, I will be with you all.:coffee:

Love Harrods!! DD was once refused entry and had to go back to hotel and change her $300 ripped jeans. Of course, we told her she couldn't wear them but you know the lesson she learned when she was refused entry was priceless. Love the market downstairs, the sushi bar, the tapas bar, the champagne and oyster bar, the Georgian room, I could go on and on. We buy teas and goodies for home. Always get a mani/pedi, wrap, massage and scalp treatment with blow dry when I am in London at the Knightsbridge store.
Love the ice cream parlor!

Woody

John,

I am so sorry to hear your father is not feeling well. My prayers go out to you and your family.

Noel,

Sorry to hear about your DH's aunt. My prayers are with your family as well.
