The fields were very green and the sun was warm for a change! I even opened the vents on the car for a bit to cool it off. May in Oregon is the prettiest. There are at least a thousand different shades of green sprinkled with color from the daisies and golden poppies.

I would be on that boat in a NY minute! The Greek Islands are very high on my travel list!!

No Greek blood (that we know of) in our family, but one of my best friends is half Greek and half Irish! Really a fun and lively mix, I must say!!

Although it is not DCL, I am going on a Greece cruise in March of 2009. We are going with another couple and this is their 20th wedding anniversary cruise. I don't know what cruise line or any details, she is planning it all. It has always been my dream to go to the Greek Isles. My uncle had severe MS (he lived in Alaska) and every summer he and his family would go to Patmos and by the end of the summer he would be walking. He passed away 11 years ago, but I have always dreamed of going there to see the healing beauty of the islands.

"Christos Anesti" is one of the things they taught me to say, but I wouldn't dare try to spell it...having seen you do it, it looks easy.

Greek was actually my FIRST language, and all we spoke at home. Mom came from Greece, and while dad was born here, both parents came from Greece. My Greek is probably a bit rusty now, as I really have no one to talk to - dad does not speak Greek much anymore.

Our DS Alex spent a lot of time with Ya Ya and Papou when he was little, and understands most Greek, but does not speak any.

Love the story about the rock. That was one crafty Greek!

Speaking of Mascots...I heard on the news that another 64 team has "The Big Green" as their Mascot.....North Texas..the announcer was like What is that??? A FUNGUS !!! And I thought of this board......

Yes, yes, yes!!! You're right, no one makes bread like ya ya's do!! Our American friends who would be with us on New Year's would be wondering what the foil wrapped coin was all about in their slice of bread and we'd be ecstatic for them, yelling...you've got the luck, you've got the luck....the first time they thought we were lunatics!! Too funny!!!

Mom would bake a little loaf for each of us, and put a coin into each one so that none of the kids would be left out. Then when we got older, we had to play fair. I was always afraid I would swallow the coin!

Try explaining this to your non-Greek friends!

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom....it's lots of fun!! Last year we meet up with John, Amy and Sophia --- we had a blast! (well not sure about them, they could of hated walking around with us....!!)



There was a complete $4.99 section and then the other clearance stuff...which I coulnd't bring myself to buy as I had just paid 50% off the clearance price last time I was in there, it didn't sell then.....
but all the adult sweaters were $4.99, they had Tinkerbell, Mickey, the Big Bad Wolf and Pluto....DH has the BBW already he did not seem to interested in the others. The dog sweaters were $1.99 and winter hats and mittens were as well. You can imagine these are not hot ticket items in Florida!

We went to MVMCP this year for the first time and the girls had a blast. I think I like the MNSSHP better, but I absolutely love WDW around the holidays. I would love to join this december meet, but I think I will have a very hard time convincing DH to make another trip to disney this year Who knows though, I have been trying to get a trip scheduled for december this year.

Me too, first language but then I had to drop it because in school I would speak english and greek in the same sentence, and I had no idea it was a problem! BUT, I understand most of what I hear.

Loved the rock story also.....that's something my Papou would do!

Lucky you! My mom plans to retire in Greece...my grandparents left their island home to my mom when they passed on. She can't wait to go back...she said she feels like a different person there.

DH is a Sales Rep/Product Manager at Hewlett Packard and I'm mostly a stay at home mom, although a few months I go I started a part time job working at home on special projects for a marketing company, which is great because the job works around my schedule and I can do it in my jammies! Doesn't pay like I was paid during my career years, but it's something to help fund our vacations!!!!

My undergraduate degree is in art, and if I could make a living from art, I would probably persue art more. I have painted, done photography, and metalsmithing. My favorite was probably photography.

These days though, I think I would like to write a book, and I keep thinking about that book I would like to write some day.

Actually - we love the Halloween party more...but that has to do with the fact DD Samantha is born on Halloween!!!
I love the holiday decorations as well....it's such a hard choice. I spoke with my Grandma last night and she was talking about how much she is looking forward to WDW at Xmas.....not sure who she is going with.....

Plus we work flexi-time. Do you guys have that? I'm contracted to work 37 hours per week but have times during the day when I have to be in work ('core time') and times between which I can start and finish ('flexi-time'), eg I can start work any time 0700-1000, must attend 1000-1200, can take lunch (30 mins minimum, 2 hours max) between 1200-1400, must attend 1400-1530, can finish any time 1530-1800.

It works on a 4-week flexi-sheet, during which time you can take up to 2 full days (or 4 half-days) off using the hours you have already accumulated. Or you can be up to 1.5 days in debit. There are limits on how many hours credit or debit can be carried out to the next flexi period. And it all has to fit in with colleagues/bosses and the needs of the business in your area.

I generally try to have at least a day in credit in case I need an odd day off for something. And if I'm planning a vacation then I'll save my flexi so that I don't have to use as many leave days, eg 2 weeks usually only costs me 8 days leave.

It gives employees some flexibility, and saves employers paying overtime.
And I love it! Really missed it when I've worked places that don't do it.

I am a flex employee. I have to work 72 hours every 2 weeks. I typically work 8 9 hour days so I get an extra 2 days off every pay period. It's nice for vacations to since I can move the 2 days around if I need to and save vacation or holiday time. If a holiday falls on a day I would normally work I can work one of my off days then save my holiday hours to use later. Oh and I'm still counted as full-time and get all benefits (can go as low as 60 hours per pay period - 2 weeks - to still be full time in this company).

I'm a system admin for the Navy (though I'm a contractor not a civilian).

DH is an archaeologist for the Navy (he is a civilian). And luckily we work at the same place so we carpool and have lunch together.

I can't think of a career that would suit me better than what I do. It took me a long time to find that right niche though.
