hi! my wife is making me say something - so "hello". I honestly don't know what to say on these things. So I look forward to meeting you all as I feel like I know you all like my own family because of my wife's non-stop reading and updating me.

Take care - I'm not sure if or when I'll write again.

paul
Hi!! Don't worry, my DH hasn't posted on the thread, but I make sure and keep him filled in, well mostly.

Yeah, I think I am sleeping on the floor, that way the sofa will be a welcome upgrade by the time I get on the ship.:cloud9:

Pj
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Well, now that I know who she is thanks to my DIS buddies, what about that Hanna Montana gal??
and maybe some of the HSM cast??

Hi, I have been with you guys since the start. I try to keep up, but have only read about a third of what has been written. I'm not much for posting, its hard to know what to say. Deb's (EllaEnchanted) PM requesting information had peeked my interest in what the group might be saying, so I have been checking out the thread more often and I must say that thread has become a lot more user friendly with more information being brought out. I don't know if it because we are getting close to the 90 day mark or what. I do appreciate the information that is being passed around, since even though we have been on the Magic before, we have never been to California and Disneyland. We are truly going to enjoy this trip.

Hi and welcome!! 90 days is 2/10!!! We're getting close!

Hey Deb - no brunches or dinner???? WHAT?? Those are the best!! How is the no-smoking going?

Bald eagle shot, killed in Manatee County
By ANTHONY CORMIER

anthony.cormier@heraldtribune.com

EAST MANATEE -- Every so often, they went to the little patch of pasture on Lena Road, land owned by a dairy farmer and the home of an American bald eagle and her mate.

Tony and Paula Brown came to this spot for the better part of 18 months, looking for these particular birds who seemed content to live in a pine tree not far from the county dump.

But it was only in the past few weeks, when they noticed eggs in the nest, that the Browns realized the birds were about to have babies. Mother eagle stayed in the bushy nest, 100 yards or so from the road, 25 feet up in the pine tree, only days away from the hatching of her eaglets.

So the Browns came by more often, Tony Brown says, because they did not want to miss the births. Every so often became just about every day, until Sunday when the mother seemed mysteriously still in her nest.

Her mate was gone, and so were the other eagles, sometimes as many as 12, who lived in the same vicinity.

"Something's not right," he said.

Brown called a friend from the Audubon Society of Florida, which organizes observers to keep watch on eagle nests in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

When Dale Nauman got there Sunday afternoon, the eagle had not moved. The bird was dead.

The next morning, Nauman called a buddy who runs a tree-trimming business, borrowed a cherry-picker and got Roger Musgrave, the dairy farmer who owns the land and has always been friendly with the eagle watchers, to open the gate.

Nauman plucked the eagle from the nest and saw a gaping hole in the bird's chest. A veterinarian in Nokomis, he said, examined the animal and found its chest plate shattered, and an exit wound in the back.

"Somebody shot it," he said. "There's no doubt. Probably had to be a rifle, because we didn't find any buckshot in the nest or on the bird. Just the wound in the front, and another in the back."

A local law enforcement official said the carcass has been sent to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which will investigate.

It is a crime to kill or disturb an American bald eagle, removed this year from the endangered species list but still protected by federal and state laws.

While killings are rare -- the last known case in this region was in 2002 in Myakka City -- many are difficult to prove, said Gary Morse, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Sometimes, the shootings are accidental, such as cases when farmers or hunters mistake an eagle for a hawk. Also, investigations can be complicated by the wounds; defense lawyers have argued that the birds were not hurt by a bullet, but by a falling tree limb or a violent fall.

"Sometimes they can impale themselves trying to get prey," Morse said. "But, obviously, if a vet discovered that this animal was shot, it's something that law enforcement is going to be very interested in."

For now, the killing is a mystery.

The nest is not far from Lena Road, traveled heavily by trucks on their way to Manatee County's landfill, and Brown and Nauman speculated that the shooter could have fired a round from the street.

But with only about 60 eagles in Manatee and Sarasota counties, Brown wonders why anyone would hurt the birds -- especially the pair that he and his wife had become so close to.

Tony Brown is retired, after decades working in the Sears car shop. He is sick, with a heart problem that slows him down.

But he and Paula had hoped to watch their birds hatch their young, a rare sight.

He will continue watching, to be sure, but he is sick about the whole thing. "Just sad, so sad," he said.

That day, before Nauman got the cherry-picker and scaled the tree, the female's mate flew into the tree. In minutes, another eagle appeared overhead, a female, and called.

The male shrieked back, and as the cherry-picker rumbled on the ground, the eagles flew off together. There are three months left in mating season, and the bird was quickly finding another mate.

That was in the paper today...why would someone shoot a bird? I doubt they will find out who did it....

Well I'm still in our lifeboat.

Me too! I just made my final payment and went to look up my '0' balance due and it still said GTY. At least I can book my excursions on Feb 10th. That should be plenty of time for the payment to process. It sure feels good knowing that it's done! Now to save some money for the actual cruise.:cool1:

Hi and welcome!! 90 days is 2/10!!! We're getting close!

Hey Deb - no brunches or dinner???? WHAT?? Those are the best!! How is the no-smoking going?

Good Morning V.....I think that Noel is handling brunches and dinners and I'm handling the teas. I didn't mean that I'm not doing them, I meant that I'm not handling them. Sorry! That was a bit confusing.

The no smoking is still very hard but we're on day 16 today. I think John is having an easier time then I am. He's at work all day and can't smoke there anyway. I'm at home and very used to being able to freely smoke. But the good news is, neither one of us has given in and cheated. So, we're on our way to recovery, no matter how hard it still is.....we're doing the right thing and will beat it.

How's Tebow? Is he growing fast?

Just popping in for a quick Hello so you won't all forget me! I have NO chance to read even a single post today. Super swamped at work and I have to be gone part of the work day for a doc appt to get more of my preventative migraine meds. I've been out of them for 2 weeks, so I can't postpone this appt any longer. It's been almost a constant migraine ever since about 2 days after my last pill ran out. :guilty:

I'll try to find a spot tonight after Tyler goes to his dad's where I can use the internet and catch up a bit! Probably our local library. :)

so much for my chatty husband. I had been telling him thru out the afternoon that you had been wishing him well and he kept saying that's nice, thanks etc...so I logged in for him and told him to say hello, but as it goes...you can lead a DH to Disneyland, WDW and DCL but you can't make him a DISer...:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I suspect he may join us in the last month prior but who knows....He thinks the DIS is a time suck, of course surfing the net for cars and go-karts is productive....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My DH doesn't read or write anything, but I keep him informed of anything important. So, he feels like he knows a lot of people.

Keep going, keep going, keep going, consider joining Bob Green and Oprah's 2008 fit for life on Oprah.com. that may help you. Also, try using the melt in your mouth breath strips, it will replace the oral fixation with something that doesn't hurt your teeth (a Dr. Oz trick!):yay:

Hi Holly.....you are a hard one to forget....ha ha ha! Sorry to hear about the migraines being back again. I hope you get your meds today and that it helps. Any update on the Blake news? How is Tyler doing? We miss you and can't wait until you're back online regularly starting tomorrow.

Hey Holly, how are things going with Tyler? Has he been doing well in school? Overall how is K going, is he learning lots of new things?

Thanks Kelly, these are great tools to use....and I'll do anything as long as it helps. Right now I'm doing a small ziploc bag of cheerios, eating them one at a time and lots of water and cinnamon gum, sugarless of course. Everything helps.....that's what has kept me honest to date.

I'm a little bummed.....I got on the scale and learned that I gained 5 lbs in the past week and I've been doing the exact same diet. I've even started doing some exercises. I should have lost more, but instead gained. I think it's the metabolism changes from not smoking anymore. It's ok though because I read where the metabolism will readjust after a while, so I just have to give it some more time and continue with the diet and exercises. Eventually, it will even out and I should start losing again. It's a little discouraging though because I was doing so well with the weight loss.

Good morning everyone! You sure have been chatty! I hate being away for any length of time...then I have to back peddle to catch up. Please forgive me if I miss mentioning anything.....

Does it feel like he's walking you?

Angel turns 1 year old today. It's so hard to believe she is still a puppy. She has looked full grown for the past six months.

Hey Deb - no brunches or dinner???? WHAT?? Those are the best!! How is the no-smoking going?

There are groups orgainized for the private dining room at Palo. I was asked to sign up a group and several others did the same. I think Noel and Kim were working together on this. It's all good! :thumbsup2

Gydell - I would love to help Brent out with his runaway gingerbread man if he needs another place to find on the map. I am going to try to email those pics to you and Rhonda this weekend.

I did 3 miles on the bike last night....while watching the Biggest Loser. Great motivator! Weighed myself this am...down 3 more lbs...so 6 1/2 total...boy I have a WAY to go!!! But atleast I have 16 more weeks to keep trying.

I meet w/ the sleep dr tomorrow to see if he was able to get anything out of my sleep (ha) study. I meet w/ my GP on Friday.

Will came over this weekend and we moved the furniture around in my living room and guest bedroom....also set up wireless in the house...it's great to play on the laptop w/o having that cord. I also worked on cataloging (sp?) my DVDs and CDs. Have some movies I want to transfer from VHS to DVD and hope to do some this weekend. I'm also looking to buy the machine that allows you to transfer Cassettes (I have tons) to MP3s on the computer, then you can transfer the MP3s to CDs....doing research on that item.

Hi Monica.....I love your recaps.....you always do such a great job remembering everything. Have you gotten used to the new do yet? I bet it's a lot easier to wear and care for. Did you shock all the people at work? It's always a lot of fun to see people's expressions for the first time.

Hi Deb! Happy Birthday to Angel!

Is she staying off your legs?? How are the legs doing?

Don't worry about the weight gain....remember your body is going through changes that it's not used to....keep going w/ the Diettogo food and the exercise and you'll be back on track in no time!

:grouphug: You are doing GREAT!! :thumbsup2 Remember also that muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are exercising that might make a weight difference. You should continue to slim down though. If your clothes are not fitting tighter it might be the exercise and additional muscle. I went to Curves 3 times a week for a year and actually gained weight, but lost inches. :)

Hi Deb - several people had to do double takes, but it appears that everyone likes it. It is definately easier to deal w/. It was so funny when I washed my hair for the 1st time....luckily I remembered to use less shampoo but used too much conditioner and it was really funny trying to squeeze out my hair that wasn't there :rotfl:

wow Monica, you have been busy!!! You can come rearrange my furniture anytime! I need some new ideas!
