my trick I learned on the net works !! (not sure if it was the DIS or not)....to get hash browns ( the shredded kind you cook in a fry pan ) crispy like in a restaurant .....put a plate on top of them with something heavy on it....they get crispy!

V, you should give cooking lessons!

Hi all, I'm heading over to DL today and tomorrow, so if anyone has anything they want me to check out (hotels, proximity, etc.) let me know and I'd be happy to do so. We live about 15 min. from the port and 15 min. from DL, so I'll do a little research about getting around from the port. We are leaving out car at a friends house in Long Beach and they will come to get us that morn. DCL has not had any kind of transport from airports or the port, but with the ship being a perm. location here in 2010 they will need to incorporate the buses like they have at WDW. For those looking for airlines, don't forget SNA (John Wayne Orange County airport) Also, for those staying Memorial Day weekend and doing the parks, the res. for restaurants will open up 60 days prior to your visit. If you've never been to the Blue Bayou, you should go for a visit. We got Delta LAX - MCO one way $104 pp nonstop this week. But going from SNA it is $160 with one stop in Atlanta.

There are a couple of things we did on the TA/Med cruise that turned out to be very helpful, you may have already set this up somewhere in the 3000+ pages:

  • We had a book exchange bag posted at our door and then donated the books to the crew after we left. They ended up with about 40 books and magazines. DH and our neighbor read about 9 books on the trip. I'd be happy to post it at our door.
  • Also, we had a message board on each deck posted about the midway point for room changes and group games and dismeets. I'd be happy to do that as well (we are on deck 6)

If you haven't set up the message boards and would like to post one on your door then PM me and I'll keep a list.

Kelly!

I love that idea. I hate the thought of bringing 2 weeks worth of reading material and then lugging it back home. Bringing a couple books and sharing or leaving them behind sounds great to me.

:thumbsup2 Right now I'm in a lifeboat but if I get a room then I will do one of the boards. It worked great on the TA cruise!

Kelly, what restuarants would you suggest at DL with Brent?

Gydell, I'm walking out the door, so I'll post them later. I forgot your gs is coming isn't he 5?

Hi Kelly.....we have already taken care of the message board....that's why we're doing the master list....everyone will get a copy and for any last minute changes or new assignments, we decided to have one contact person and that is Noel/birkner who will keep us updated. I believe she has done this before and it worked well so we decided to do it this way....oh about 2500 pages ago.....ha ha......and have gotten it started already with our master list which is close to being completed. Thanks for your thoughts in trying to help though, we really do appreciate everyone's input.

As far as the book exchange goes, the only thing we mentioned was for people to bring books and leave them at the cove when finished reading so that others could pick them up. If you would like to set up something more systematic, I'm sure no one would object and it might even be more beneficial to all those who want to read.

Thanks for thinking of all the details.....it's good to double check just in case we missed something.

Gydell, we don't need a board....that's why we have a master list and Noel. It's covered!

That is SO true...I got sick after eating at a seafood place once and when I looked up the various type of food illnesses out there...yikes! Some you die within hours!!! Lisa

Hmmm...I wonder if it would be easier for Noel just to have one place on each deck to go to to communicate any changes, etc. I think it would be hard for her to reach out to everyone. Maybe it might be a good idea to do a combo idea - have the master list and then have a place on each deck as Kelly suggested and Noel can go post changes there? I'm not in the middle, so I wouldn't be a good spot, although I believe we are close to laundry...Lisa

Since Noel has done this before, I think we should get her input before we decide to make any changes. Why don't you PM her with your suggestion.

That's what the message boards were for and if there was a last minute notice or change then the main person called the people with the boards and they wrote the changes on the board. We also left ?s that we had on the boards. Whatever is fine with me!

I'm not suggesting we should make a change, just chatting. I'm sure Noel will be popping back in and can review the chat and decide what she would like to do.

OK....I just thought that since she knows best what she is doing, we might wait until she is here with us to explain.

As far as chatting, we chatted this to death about a year ago and then made some final decisions......I feel like we are trying to reinvent the wheel in the 11th hour......some people have already invested a great deal of time in this and it would be a shame to question it again or change it all now.

Just my humble opinion.

This is my 3rd Disney cruise (06-1992 Big Red Boat, 05-06-2006 Magic Western). I'll be a stowaway (I'm divorced) on the Ship of Thieves, joining my parents and grandparents. I'm excited for the trip! We're on Deck 6 outside, don't know exactly what category. I'm pretty sure we're on early seating.

Welcome!

V, have you seen all the TVs in Diversions, lol. And they have wings and nachos.

Pj

Finally visited Diversions on my last cruise...plan on making several visits during this one ::yes::

I have a feeling except for reality shows we may have already seen this season's finales! :headache:

Oh...my worst nightmare! Had so much fun this week re-shuffeling all our commercials for the Golden Globes! :headache:

Kelly!

We had discussed bringing two books with us, one we had already read and loved and the 'new' one to read on this trip...then trading it in when finished. We were just going to leave them at Cove Cafe...but it sure is possible that there might not be enough room there for them. I did notice on the Wonder last month, since they have taken out the internet station, that they actually put in a book case (with a glass front door) that people had put books in. Anywone know if they've done that on the Magic? If they have there might, in fact, be room for all our books at Cove Cafe. If not, a book drop bag sounds like a good idea.

I thought we had already discussed and liked the idea of 'deck captains' that would post changes and new activities and that Noel was the leader of this? Could be I misremember, or drempt it! :lmao:

I just want everyone to know I will be available to fill any vacant seat at any Palo meal! And if I ever get a cabin number ;) I'll make sure you all know it!
