Just got a phone call this morning from the resources teacher (special ed). After the principal received our letter requesting they start the IEP process, they forwarded his neuropsych eval and OT eval the school did on to the school psychologist for interpretation. We have a meeting this Thursday with the principal, resources teacher, school social worker, school OT, and school psychologist to discuss what services and accommodations they think they can offer Tyler. They're moving VERY quickly and I'm quite surprised because every doctor told me this meeting wouldn't happen until the beginning of next school year since this year is almost over. They're already voluntarily taking him out for special classes, so they're a bit ahead of things. Good school! :thumbsup2

You seem to have chosen this school well Holly, and you didn't even know Tyler would have problems.

Sounds very positive.

Oh, here's another cool thing. Tyler's karate teacher was talking with me on the phone about some things, and we got around to some things Tyler does in class (the licking his sleeves & other things), and he wanted to assure me that there are many kids in their classes with similar issues and even a few Aspberger kids and he wanted me to know that they work around whatever differences each child has. I told him the official diagnosis, sensory processing disorder, and told him nobody I know has ever heard of it (including me until recently), and he told me his brother was diagnosed with that when he was around Tyler's age! I couldn't believe it! He told me the doctors told his family the best way to explain it to somebody unfamiliar with it is that it's a combination of ADHD-like and OCD-like symptoms. That's a PERFECT description! It feels good to have a way to explain it to people now AND to know of somebody else who's dealt with this. :goodvibes

That is good for Tyler at Karate too. Good to know someone understands.

Holly, have you googled Tyler's condition? There is a website about it.

A bit, but too much information overload for me. The psychologist had us read the book called "The Out of Sync Child" and the author has her own website which has good info. The occupational therapist told me Tyler could be the poster child for that book, after what she's seen from her evaluation and weekly sessions. Interesting! I'm learning lots about brain functions that I've never heard of, so it's quite an educational experience.

the net does have too much medical advice out there....everytime I look up what is ailing me, it is never good.

On our Med. Cruise July last year, there were 135 pieces of missing luggage when the cruise started! One lady (who had obviously been drinking a little too much) told me at the Golden Mickey Afterparty that she was wearing the little black dress from one of the cast members who was on the entertainment staff. She also told me "and I'm not wearing anything underneath!". TMI.....didn't need to know she was going commando.

Anyway, on the last port, I got in the elevator with one of the CM's from Guest Services, he had 2 pieces of luggage that he was delivering to a stateroom. I said "oh more luggage showing up?" He said they were down to about 34 missing pieces, the best cruise they had thus far in the Med. with missing luggage showing up!

:scared1:

All these stories about luggage scare me!

Kelly - this sounds eerily similar to my story - sorry to ask, was it to a fire? I also lost everything I ever owned, and I mean EVERYTHING, 14 years ago to a wildfire, and you are so right, no-one and nothing can ever takeaway my memories, that are especially poignant now since both my parents have since died from the stress of that event - but they are always in my heart. Now I try to make wonderful memories for my little girl...

That is such a tramatic and huge loss to endure  It is hard going through such rough life events but they do help you see things in a whole new light. I am sure your daughter now reaps the rewards of what you suffered so some good comes out of the bad in many cases.

at least my luggage should get there since we don't have to fly to the ship...now if it gets home, that is another story!

:rotfl2: My grandfather had a huge book of various ailments and problems and would weekly tell me about what new illness he thought he had. :lmao: Sometimes too much info is a bad thing.

Holly,

You are not old enough to remember that :lmao:

Do we have a closet hockey fan here?
:rolleyes1 Well, my ex-husband was a huge hockey nut. He started playing when he was 3 (never played for real anywhere beyond high school though) and continued playing on adult leagues until he shattered his ankle by sliding into the boards at full speed during a game. Now he teaches 3-5 year old hockey classes. Anyway, in our 6 years together, we traveled around the country to as many NHL stadiums as we could possibly see, visited the Hall of Fame, and he taught me all kinds of trivia and tips, etc. I've forgetten most of it because tuning in too much just brings up memories of us and how I miss what we had, etc. BUT.......when somebody mentioned the original 6 a long time ago, I laughed secretly inside because he used to think it was funny when his buddies were amazed that I knew the original 6 because they'd never known a woman who did! :lmao:

Fun times!

Oh my gosh, despite my weekend away from the DIS, I managed to catch up with you all.....and BEFORE you all got onto the next thread! :lmao: Woohoo!!! Hmmmm......what does that say about how hard I've been working at my job?! ;)

Speaking about birthdays....Mr Hockey.....just celebrated his 80th.....and is still in fine form

Let's see who knows who Mr Hockey is....:cool1:

Well, Delta Airlines just called me and said they had changed my flight times to Florida and back from California. They put my on a flight that would arrive after midnight going into Sat. a.m. I said NO THANKS.

So instead, I am now leaving Friday morning at 7:10 a.m. arriving somewhere around 4 p.m. with a connection through Atlanta. Much better!
