I'm torn...I live in Ottawa but my team is the Detroit Red Wings (met Gordie Howe when I was a kid and he made me promise I would be a Red Wing fan)

my Grandad played hockey forever...not pro but he and several other started the Florida Everblades and the Florida Oldtimers etc....we went all over the country skating and to germany and Canada when I was little. He died before hockey came to Tampa professionally, he would have loved that. Our freezer was always stocked with several pucks! My Grandma's den well it was GRandaddy's office has all his pictures of teams...he was great and even played with two replaced hips!

Well, reality will probably hit us all Lisa and we'll just have to sneak away to the "laundry room" (ie-adult pool/adult hot tub/cove cafe etc) and have some girls' time there!!!

ok I just pulled out two of Grandaddy's jackets full of all our patches the back bif Florida Everblades with the state in green and hockey skates dangling over the tip, the other team was Florida Solar Bears. I will have to take a pic and post sometime later. Munich games patches are on there from the 80's too.

I am googling the Everblades and wow, they were started well before the 80's and the logo was so not a Gator!! Most of the originators are probably dead though.

it is cool...there are even a few pins....back then all the wives sat around trading pins....My grandma had all kind of fur hats with tons of pins on! I plan to bug Grandma to see if she has any documents about the old teams....they were "oldtimers" all had to be over age 35, but they played all over the world, I guess you can't patent a name.

They just announced that Ottawa has just been awarded a 'conditional' franchise in the Canadian Football League...

This marks Ottawa's third attempt at fielding a CFL team, with the Rough Riders enjoying the longest stretch. The franchise began play in 1876 and captured nine Grey Cups, including three between 1960 and 1970. The last one came in 1976.

However, the Rough Riders were forced to fold following the 1996 season. The city was awarded another franchise and began play in 2002 — this time as the Renegades — but ownership issues caused the league to suspend operations four years later

I've been following this story for a few weeks now when the first rumours were starting to come out. It is a good day for the CFL! And with Jeff Hunt involved this ownership looks to be the best Ottawa has seen in quite some time.

I just hope City Hall doesn't mess it up with Frank Clair!

It will be good to travel to Ottawa and watch my Lions beat the Ottawa team with you Bruce!!

And after this year - I really don't like that "go riders go" phrase ....

I cannot remember the numbers but there were at least 5+ ex-Renagades on either team in the Grey Cup....we had a good team...just lousy ownership....just wonder if we'll get the Riders name back?

I highly doubt they will go with the Riders name. When the Renegades came about one of the reasons not to go with the Riders was because Horn Chen wanted too much money for the rights.

Also, they may want to break from the memories of those old ownership groups.

I also beleive the League now owns the rights to all new teams, rather than the individual owners just to prevent such a problem as was faced with Horn Chen. It might be a resurgence of the 'Gades, but then again it might be something entirely new. I trust though, that Jeff Hunt will get it right. He's done pretty OK with the '67's.

The Lions Training Camp schedule just came out and it starts the day I get back to Canada from DL. The rookie's first camp will be the day I am to head home from Vancouver, so I guess I just might have to stop in Abbotsford and watch a bit of that on the way home. Oh shucks darn it all ...

Can you feel it? Football is in the air - Spring MUST be around the corner!

Thanks to everyone who posted about camera/laptop bags. DH called from a Wolf yesterday at lunch and said, 'I'm looking at these bags'. I told him the crazy cruisers had some info and thru the Amazon lowepro compudaypack page found a link to a seller in town. DH went today and got the Tamrac Adventure 9, barely used, for not too much more than the lowepro.

I know it must be frustrating to still be guarantee but really don't think it is part of a big Disney conspiracy. I imagine it is like all other cruises, they sold a certain percentage of specific cabins and then went to guarantees. I think whether or not you got a room depended on how fast your agent was, or how far down their list you were. I'm just glad I panicked and booked on my own, we wouldn't be going at all if we'd waited for the DU reservation.

Also, please don't spoil the Dancing losers, it is waiting for me on the DVR...

I forgot to tell my exciting news....my mom bought me the box set of the first season of FAME!!!
going to a performing arts high school, I truly thought I would be a star and my best friend and I sat on the phone every day of summer (befire call waiting) and watched this show!
