Are you having a Mac fan get together and workshop onboard?

Well, long, long ago (almost a year, probably) I mentioned that I'd love to talk Macs with both John and PJ on the cruise so I've been planning on doing that at some point. Nothing formal was set up. I'm just planning on picking their brains.

But if anyone is interested in hearing about the SUPERIOR machine, I'd be happy to talk to anyone who's interested. PM me and we'll figure out something.

Marilyn - what does your last name start with? I'm wondering if DCL has us in ABC order and that's why some have rooms(even those that booked after us) and some of us don't. My last name starts with a W.

Good Try, Gydell! But.....No! I'm an F!

Updates on our plans - feel like it is really getting close!

Well we had planned to come in - stay at a value resort for a few days and do some disney stuff and then transfer over on Friday to the Hyatt so we could take Disney transport from there what ever time we wanted and I did not want to spend the extra $$ on a moderate or above so I was willing to do this extra step.

WELLLLLL I then got to thinking that Friday would be so short and that was really the day to go to MK so I did not want to cut it short with packing and making our way back to the airport but also did not want to wait till the "resort bus" run on Saturday - also having to transport to a resort with our luggage via regular tranporation or taxi.

My solution? We are staying at the All Star Movies - getting there on 7th and checking out on the 10th. We will schedule an early morning Magical Express to take us back to the airport with our luggage - dropping us off close to where we just go and get on a bus to the port! This will allow us best of both worlds I think. The only downside is we will not get to meet up with the Hyatt people on Friday night.

We will be at the Poly for the Lua on Friday night so we will not make the meet in DTD either - kids only asked to do Magic Kingdom and Friday was the best day for us with other things going on.

Is anyone else going early and staying at All Star Movies?

We ended up doing a package with the Disney Dining Deluxe plan for food - so I also have to work on all the ADR's for evertying while we are there. We plan on doing some places we have never eaten at. And I thought making reservations for Palo was exhausting!

On Thursday we are going to one of the water parks - anyone like one over the other more? We love water parks and normally only go to Blizzard Beach because TL is closed when we go in January so we have never been to it.

hello all my name is chris and I am going to be going on the westbound repo cruise with my husband bill, my 21 year old son robert, and my mom rose marie. it has always been a dream of my mom's to see the canal before she dies and when this oportunity arose, I grabbed at it. my mom lives in iowa but the rest of us live in tampa florida so getting to the port is easy. of course geting home is a bit tougher but we are really looking forward to it. feel free to send me a pm if you want to intorduce yourself to me. my son in on this board as well but he tends to lurk. well thats it for now.

Welcome to the Thieves!pirate:

Wow, that's a lot of new rules.....I'm going to put the bathroom bag and the meds bag in the suitcase to be checked in so I don't have to worry about it. What about my manicure set? It has a nail file and a scissor in it. Can I bring it and leave it in the check in bag? The shoes will be croc flip flops and the laptop will come out of the bag, those will be easy. Thanks for the heads up.

Angie, I did see your answer about the manicure set. I just had to keep reading. Thanks so much, you really have helped. I had no idea what the new procedures and rules are. This is necessary to know in advance.

Whew! Hi everyone! It's been a busy couple of days and I have not had a chance to log on. It's clear I'm not going to catch up (chatty folks!) so let me know if I've missed anything important. I see we have a lot of new people...if you're new be sure to check out page one of this thread and PM me your info if you want to be on the master list and get a mini navigator!

Deb-don't put your meds in the checked bag, just in case. You want those w/ you.

I know I usually put them in a carry on, but since it's a nonstop flight, I thought maybe it would be safe enough that my luggage won't get lost.

Do you think I should put them in plastic bags and keep them in my carry on bag still? I have lots and lots of them that are all in one a medicine bag.

What do you think?

If you want more of an Appleworks feel, you should probably get iWork instead Cherie. It is also cheaper than Office. I have both. I have used Word and Excel so much over the years that I prefer Office. You can play with both on my Macbook in about 70 days if you want.

Thanks!!! I'd love to! I'd also like to hear about Apple TV.

I'm going to house-and-dog sit for my sister in about 10 days while they go to Hawaii. I'm planning to go to the Apple store as much as I can and immerse myself in their workshops!:lovestruc  :worship:

I know my John would be interested as he is a Mac user and can always learn more. Perhaps you all could get together, as each of you have something to teach others. He should have his Mac with him this time too.

Carry them on! You never know what might happen. I got stuck w/out mine last summer. My flight home from Hawaii was delayed so long that I ended up spending the night at LAX and flying to PHX the next morning. It was the first time in a long time that I packed everything and didn't carry that stuff on. I learned my lesson.

Not sure about the nail file , but scissors with blades under 4" in length are allowed as are nail clippers.

I wouldn't check your meds as they are not a covered item if stolen (like electronics and jewelry). As long as they aren't liquids there is nothing special you need to do with them.

Don't forget a qt size ziploc to hold all the liquids in your purse - including neosporin, tide laundry pen, inhalers, etc. The ziploc baggie has to be qt size (nothing larger).

You can bring snacks thru security but no drinks.

Wow, so many more things to think about. I almost want to check in my carry on bag too. I'm really going to have to work with this and try to get it right. I can't imagine packing and flying all the time. I'd rather drive and bring what I want where I want it!

We are supposed to keep all our meds in their original packaging!! I do put non necessary items in checked baggage such as supplements that I could buy when I get there if necessary, but essential ones are in my hand baggage.

That sounds fun! The teacher in me is already envisioning it...:lmao:

Question for those mailing items - since we are spending several days at WDW ahead of time I do not want drag all our stuff to Orlando and was thinking of mailing some things like our snorkle gear and formal clothes - had anyone done this before - if so how far in advance do you send it? And what is the best way to send it? i am going to pack suitcased inside suitcases so I have places for everything to come home :)

I am a little nervous doing it but at the same time want the convience.

Is it more like the old Appleworks? I still use that for my own documents; it's so easy! Word to me is so cumbersome--hard to find the things I want to use and it does all this stuff on its own that I don't want.

Now that you mention is, it is a bit more Appleworksy that the former MS Office.

I like it. I certainly think it's more stable and just feels like a Mac app. Stuff is in the right place like preferences under the file menu rather than shoving it under the tools menu in "Options" etc.

We fly pretty frequently so I guess we're used to it. Driving certainly allows to pack a lot more "maybe we'll need them" type items.

I just put in my carry-on all electronics, meds, snacks (diabetic - so don't want to get stuck with nothing to eat sitting on the runway for 3+hours) and in-flight/airport entertainment stuff (books, magazines, cross-stitch, even crocheting if flight is long enough). Then after going thru security I pick up a bottle of water for the flight. If it's a business trip I add a change of clothes. For vacation I don't bother with the extra clothes.

Thanks Lisa, so nice of you to do that and post the link. Now I have to look up the corkscrew that I carry in my make up bag.....I'm always prepared.....can you tell that I like drinking wine and champagne when I'm out travelling.

I was surprised to see you can pack a corkscrew in both carry-on and checked!
