I need to go test DD and go to bed so I'm conscious for carpool duty, I can't tear myself away from the great Cat 1 debate!

I'm coming back after I brush my teeth, hope you make some progress on your decision...

I am with you - I have to go do a few things but will be back to see this discussion -

This is much more exciting than waiting up last night to see if another tornado would hit our town :)

OK but did I read you have done a category one before? If so I would be more tempted to pass. If it was a whole new experience I would do it. I think you would have just as much fun fully paid in full in nines as you would in 10K debt in the one. Instead of spending extra money now wait until your husbands business grows and he can relax with some real time off and then spend the money partying it up on one of the new Disney ships.

Ok all...I think we have all made the decision....I'm sticking with our connecting 9's. AS MUCH AS IT LITERALLY AND COMPLETELY SUCKS THE LIFE OUT OF ME.

I know it is best. And tomorrow, come hell or high water, I'm paying this balance off.

Thank you all! ! !

Now I can change my mind if we want to have a hosted party in Cat. 1, I can arrange that for say a mere $1000 a person. . . I 'll pick up the champagne tab. :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I'll call to see if I can change the name on the reservations - if someone wants it, they should PM me!

Oh, the freedom of it all. Thank you all!!!

But our kids...they just loved it. They loved being in the small room together, loved sharing a bedroom.

My brother & his wife had a very similar experience. For several months they had to live (with their 2 boys, about 3 & 4) in their old, small 2 BR condo until it sold. Their kids loved the little place!

Sounds like you're sorting it out. Happy memories don't always have to do with scads of money being spent.

Just read that to DH and he responded...makes you think. Gee, I wish I could figure this one out.

We are going to Tahoe over President's week and I called our ownership place and they are going to try to rent it. It is a lot per night ($1100) so if they can rent it, there is some more $$. But still, I know we coudl use that money for other things and events and vacations. If nothing else, maybe knowing we saved the money on Cat. 1 will make it easier to move forward with the cruise in general. Maybe that is why it is being available to us...because really we are very close to canceling given DH's work schedule and recent slow down. But if my bonus covers the cat. 9's, perhaps I should just focus on getting us on the ship. I don't know. I do wish we could be in the Cat. 1. It seems like such incredibly luck to have it offered. Is there anyone on board that wants it if we don't take it? Is Noel out there???

Lisa

what is the total price of the suite? I'm looking at 15K for a 3 how much more could it be, if it's 20K seems like I'd want it, but in my dreams Paul says no way, we don't spend enough time in the suite. I'd say yes way and bring my mom.

Good point about the concierge, and of course we would have a party! We did in Jan 07 - it wasn't a big DIS cruise, but we had a tour. We will hopefully still be able to hit Karen up for a tour with her awesome Cat. 2. Good points...I'm leaning to Cat. 9. Going into debt just doesn't sound the right direction....I know, too much finanical information being shared but I sure appreciate all the advice. Lisa

OH, oh!! Somebody mentioned earlier about a tip jar for tours!! :thumbsup2 You could do that. I am sure DIS folks are generous....well, not $10,000 generous, but it could help. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

You are playing HARD BALL talking about purses!!!!!:rotfl:

It is a lot more....but reading Nan's post makes me so want to do it....

crude, don't blame me, your DH will give me the evil eye all cruise long, not to mention Paul is giving me it now.:lmao: :lmao:

Well I have to go to bed so I'll have to wait until morning to find out how it ends!

Good luck with a tough decision.

I do have to say it is a nice feeling knowing that when our taxes come in next week I'll pay off the credit card we put the last of our cruise on and will not owe anything - well there is still the on-board stuff to pay for - but the bulk will be paid for already.

And how much time would you be in the cabin with all the activities we have planned? Of course we could move them to your Cat 1 cabin...:lmao:

Good luck!!

Night all!!

edited to add: I see while I was posting this you decided on the Cat 9's. Sounds like a good plan.

I think they said $19,000 when they first called, but I was in a daze then because I had missed it. She left a message around 2pm today, stating they would hold it until 5pm tomorrow. I'm not sure of the actual cost then.

But if it was $19,000 for us, that was for 6 people. Seems to me it might not be much more for you??? Lisa

DD is high as a kite so I'm up for another hour and a half, but I see the decision is made.

We'll just have to have a progressive tour of our 'connecting in the bowels' cat 9's. Really they are a great amount of space and we won't have to worry about added sunburn from the verandah...

I'm pming you...

Can't pm you Lisa, your pm box is full.

Did you feel the earthquake????

OK i am going to try and keep up with you guys again...LOL...I am Keri
mom to Matthew 12 and abbey 5 and of course dh CLiff....we live in tampa and this will be our 6th cruise and let me tell you I am not prepared at all. Just made final payment....i have no clue how we are getting to the port...did not reserve palo's....what night do you think i should...if there are any left, what am i missing things i need to do...i am usually so OCD with our trips but not this time...now I am feeling stressed!!

we are in a cat 5 by the way...just incase anyone wanted to know.

I am going to try and stay ontop of the posting this time...you guys are such a chatty group!

Welcome...join in!
Hey are any of you from the west coast planning on doing the Mexican 7 day cruise while it is in California? I was thinking I may book a week since they are here so close to me. It is easier since I am in California and cheaper since I can drive to port. I also have passes to Disneyland, Sea World and the Wild animal park and San Diego Zoo. Would be a low cost vacation as far as the land portion for me. So anyone planning on one or considering it? Oh and it visits a port our cruise does not that is a bonus!

--------->edited to stop the widespread panic! LOL NO I am not canceling this cruise. I am thinking I will book ANOTHER one for this summer when schools out. So anyone else thinking of doing that?
I have friends going in July and August and I think all the time about joining them this summer!
Ok I am going to post this for the late night crew and then one time during the day for the skimmers out there. I will be solo pretty much as far as adult activities and I do have some late night buddies lined up :thumbsup2 BUT.... is there anyone out there who might want to buddy up with me so I can try Palos but not be alone doing it? I have never ate there and would really like to get brunch and dinner and tea in but not all alone. I don't mind being a third or fourth wheel either. :flower3:

End of my really pathetic sounding public announcement :rotfl2:

Oh wait were we all supposed to try for a certain day for tea right? I might have that wrote down somewhere.

I'm alone too, so we could go together. I'm in nans group too. So I'm going to try to book a ressie and you can join me on another night. Since we have so many!

Hey Mar. Funny you should ask this tonight, as last night I asked DH about what kind of Palo's he wanted to do with our dinning group. He said all of them with the group is fine. Group, we need to pick the dates and being the control freak I am, I'll book for us and then we can have a conference call to confirm ok? I'll email ya tomorrow from my desk and we can ge the dates in line for what we want when ok?

Now, Mar, since we have 5 adults, would you like to round out our party and join us for Palos? I think it would be no problem. I figure we will have to talk with them on the ship to make this happen, but I can also include you in the date(s) chatter with us on email tomorrow if you want. Let me know.

We have a group of 5 adults in our dining party

JOIN JOIN>..resistance is futile!

I just got back from my work meeting. It went well - I did get an extra bonus, but not quite as big to cover the call I got today....

They called for Cat. 1!!!!

Arggg....I have until 5pm tomorrow. I just can't seem to figure this out - we wouldn't be able to pay it all outright, so that makes me think we should say no. But then I imagine being in that wonderful suite for 15 nights with my family.

I think this might give me some levage to make the cruise at least work - my bonus will cover our 2 cat 9's final payment. But still....

Cat. 1......arggg......think of the DIS parties!! I hope someone is still awake to talk me through this!!! Or waking up!

Congrats and I understand. I would love to do it too, but I'd think about all the other stuff. I was at a lecture tonight where the lecturer remind us that alot of the vacation stuff we do is for us...ie, the kids don't care if you have a cat1 they are just happy to be on the ship with mickey. Nothing will change with your vacation having 2 9's It will still be great!

I just cleaned it out some!! Sorry. Lisa

So going back to what good old mom used to say...

Fifty years from now, will you be glad/sorry you cancelled the cruise?

Fifty years from now, will you be glad/sorry you cruised in a 9 instead of a 1?

Fifty years from now, will you be glad/sorry you cruised in a 1 instead of a 9?

etc., etc.

It sounds like you've figured out what's right for you!:lovestruc

I'll check back in the morning in case there have been new developments!;)

I'd call my mom to ask her to come with us and have her kick in for a couple grand and we'd be there in a heart beat....

If you don't do it, I'd take it. empty your pm box I'll send ya my #'s.

Finally got back on the boards. I went on last night and was having errors. Then today I read back and saw the boards were down last night. So after a long day at work I logged in. Not so many pages. We had a great lecturer at school tonight, Madeline Levine who wrote The Price of Priviledge. She did a great job. If you ever see her in your area, I recommend going to listen. Especially if you have children still at home. Any age child. She was very entertaining.

Is she any relation to Mel Levine 'A Mind at a Time'? They sound like they'd be on the psychologist circuit.

I like your Mom's thinking...I will be sorry if I miss this cruise. DH and I will make the final, FINAL decision tomorrow but my bonus certainly helps the situation. :goodvibes

I just emptied out some...I'll empty out more.

NO! I didn't feel the earthquake. Was it big?? Lisa

it was little, but it scared us. Molly is on the couch with me now :scared1:

She by the way wants the cat 1. How sad my 10 year old understands the difference....spoiled child....(I say that tongue in cheek, she is so not that kind of girl, her brother on the other hand...)
