Maximum Age For Child-Swap?

What is the maximum age of a child to use the child-swap procedure?Thanks.

I don't know if there is a maximum age. In the past we have used it with my then 7 year old niece on Malestrom. We received some funny looks, but oh well. It is better than taking a screaming child on a ride they do not want to be on. And maybe I missed them announcing a change, but when we visited this October their procedure for child swap had changed. My sister and I rode Splash Mountain while her husband and daughter waited. When we got off they handed us some fast passes. On prior visits they just escorted the person who had waited directly onto the ride. If this is still the case keep in mind it will take a little more time for everyone to enjoy the ride.

I don't think there's a maximum age. Even if the child in question is tall enough to ride the attraction they still can qualify if they are afraid go on it.

I think its at the descretion of the CM but generally speaking its to accomodate familes that would otherwise have to double the wait due to a small child. In otherwise originally designed for familes with children who don't meet the height requirement.

I guess if your talking about a 7-9yo who can meet the height but dosen't want to ride like say TOT they may allow you. If you are talking about an adult or older child your best bet would be to wait together and have the non-rider use the chicken exit. FP can work for you as well.

I do know that for RnRc we did not get a child swap until dh brought my 6yo to the CM as the "swappee?".

Perhaps if you give more details on the non-rider and or rides your interested in that will help.

I actually mis-spoke - we did it on ToT! (sorry) As to the how it works - we were in the FP line, and had one for DS even though we didn't think he'd go on it. When we got to the front of the line to load, just told the CM we wanted to child swap. DS and I were taken by a CM down to the ride exit (where you can view the pictures taken). When DH came off I went back to the CM there and they took me back up - and I got on the next "elevator". They even asked me if I had a particular seat I wanted.... Very easy, and CM's didn't act like this was particularly unusual, even with a child of 9.. In the end, I think DS would have been fine, as he did go on RnR (his FIRST coaster anywhere!) and LOVED it!

It worked the same way on RnR. My dd walked through the FP line with us (with her own pass) and were sent to the exit to wait for the rest of our party through the "chicken exit" then walked back. My DD also ended up riding it by the end of the trip and loved it.

I think it would be fine and fair to use it up till the age the child in question is old enough to wait alone for the others who want to ride. I am guessing about 12 though that would varry from child to child. As long as most people do not abuse the system I think WDW would work with most families that need to use this system.

We have done it with a young adult, but he is disabled. I don't think there is an age limit.

If the family is waiting in the line and then wants to swap because there is someone who "can't ride and can't be left alone", there should be no problem. It is no different than just letting some families go ahead of part of your group until the other half of your group has returned to take the child with them. In theory it should take longer.

As far as leaving them to wait, for some kids this may be 12 but some it may not be till much later. Especially to a child new to the park or maybe not used to being in busy places. I have an extremely mature 11 year old who I probably could let wait alone, but I don't think I would in such a busy place.

Just want to point out that if the non-riding child isn't tall enough to ride (48 " for rnrc) they can't go through the line at all so the above situation would not apply for a youngster. I advise everyone to make sure to see the CM and get instructions before hitting the line to avoid confusion.

Also if you have enough people in your party the 2nd adult dosen't have to ride alone but can be accompanied by up to 2, sometimes 3 people.

I agree that until the non-rider is old enough to wait alone the child swap should be an option.
