Matterhorn closing???

It's not 18 months, but as of yesterday the Fantasyland side was closed. The CM said it would be down again today but should be open tomorrow for the weekend.

That happens a lot I guess, every time we go to DL it's closed & then open & then closed again :confused3

I hope they refurbish after may, it's DS 5 favorite ride

yes, if you go to Miceage and click on Al's most recent update he had a picture of the new bobsleds. I hope they will have a little more padding since that ride really jerks me around. I still love it though!

Can someone provide this link. I was all over Miceage last night and couldn't find anything.

I don't know about you, but my 6'3 250lb hubby got THROWN around on the Matterhorn. He rode in the back part and DS and I rode in the front. Every single time I get off this ride I feel as if I've just been to the worst chiropractor in the world!

DH has only been on the Matterhorn once, since it seems to be shut down everytime we go. In my 15+ years of going to DL, I've only been able to ride on it a few times...that poor ride shuts down all the time! After his one and only ride, he vowed never to ride it again! Sad...since it's such a piece of Disney history...

I can only imagine that the new bobsleds would make the ride smoother?? At least one would hope the ride would be smoother....And if he has to squeeze into an impossibly small space...well, it won't be the first time! Plane ride to Cali anyone!

I imagine that my giant of a hubby would be much happier squeezing into a "more comfortable" bobsled, then walking with a gimp for the rest of the day. The first round went to the Matterhorn, maybe DH will win the 2nd round!:thumbsup2

I'm thinking that, like the article says, if the new bobsleds are a tight squeeze for anyone over 6' feet tall and over 200 pounds, it would be impossible for my 6'5" hubby to fold himself into them. But what will be will be.....although so many guys are over 6' tall.....I find the confines of the new bobsleds perplexing in today's world of bigger, taller people. I mean the average height for a man is approx. 5'10". Six feet tall is only 2 more inches over average.

I'm going to guess that they will increase the height requirement. We took our 3 year old daughter on it for the first time in December. It was her first "really big ride" and it was perfect that she was able to sit with me. After the initial climb in the dark, she loved it, laughing the entire time, asking to go again when we stopped. Her first time will probably be her last for a while...

I did notice that the castle side of the line was shut down when we were there this week and that there were a bunch of sleds on the track over there. Maybe the refurb will just close down half of the ride at a time?

Im shocked they arnt in use yet. I thought they were installing the new bob sleds last year. I guess I was very much mistaken. It's taking them awhile. They were sitting near the tracks last June. I was looking forward to trying them out when I was there, but they werent in use. Hmmm! Still I look forward to giving them a whirl this year if they happen to actually become installed.

I'm curious about how/if the new bobsleds will affect the current jerky nature of the ride, too. Reason being, I always use the handles on the sides to sort of "brace" myself during the ride, keeping my spine from getting too jarred around. With the configuration of the new bobsleds, at least from the photos, it looks like that would be difficult to do (hold onto anything to brace your body and protect it from the roughness of the ride, that is).

I was there last Monday & Tuesday and noticed the same. Only the Tomorrowland side was open. (which is fine with me, I like that track better for some reason :thumbsup2)

We were scheduled to go earlier this month, but our trip has been postponed until May. My DD4 (turns 4 today!) is only about 38.5" tall, so the Matterhorn was going to be one of the few coaster rides (I think she's also tall enough for GGC) she was going to be able to ride - and she LOVES coasters. (When we went to WDW last year, she' must've rode Goofy's Barnstormer a dozen times.) I can't imagine that they would keep the HR at 35" if the kids have to sit by themselves. I'm guessing 40", like SM?

I'm hoping she'll grow some by May, so maybe a changed HR won't be an issue...

So I take it there are 2 different tracks on 2 different sides of the mountain? Never been...

Has anyone been there lately or talked to anyone about this that might have more info???

I was there Wednesday through Friday. Most times I walked by they only had the Tomorrowland side running. It broke down after we stood in line for 20 minutes on Friday morning, so we left the area. We went back that night and they had sleds running on both sides -- the old sleds. The line formed on the Tomorrowland side, and when you got up to the covered area you could choose which track you wanted to stand in line for. We went with the Fantasyland side. We had already been assigned our seats when it broke down again. (Just the Fantasyland side this time.) They did a really great job of shuffling the Fantasyland side people over to the other side and keeping them pretty much in the same order. Still open, same old sleds.

Yes but they they DID rebuild it.

I'm excited to go on this as the last few times I have been then it's been closed!!

I hope so too. DD first time on it she was 3 turning 4 and it jerked her all over the place. She had a huge bruise almost instantly on her hip from it.. She didn't care that it was there and she didn't complain too much about it but I wasn't thrilled about it either..

The new bobsleds are gonna be awesome!! :cool1: I remember seeing them while they were testing them out over the summer :). But the CM had told us that they were planning on getting them in by the end of summer :confused3. Plans change!!
