Hello all! I just registered here and love the site. I'm getting married this Saturday (9/6) and my fiance/wife and I will be heading down to WDW on Sunday for our honeymoon. I was wondering if anyone had any tips about how to approach the situation with Hurricaine Ike. We're from Delaware and have never had to deal with something like this on a vacation. Should we consider cxl'ing? We're scheduled to be there from the 7th through the 13th and are getting pretty anxious about what to do. Any tips would be appreciated!

Matthew

Matt - my fiance is a meterologist - I asked him and he said he wouldn't cancel. Disney is ready for a hurricane and have good policies put in place. At this point the track of Ike isn't 100% positive. His website is in my profile if you want to go visit him and talk to him directly. You can email him from there and he'll give you his opinion on the storm.

Hope this helps,:)
Meg

I agree with the above poster. It is still too far out to tell where it is going to go. But I can tell you that you will be safe at Disney! I used to work there and they have procedures for hurricanes. I will be keeping you in my thoughts. Congrats on your wedding, and I hope you have a spectacular honeymoon (Ike or no Ike!)

If you don't mind getting a little wet I'd say go for it! Actually it should almost help you because it deters people from going. Bring changes of clothes for each day & rain gear. Just think shorter lines!

Plus, the parks may be nice and empty if everyone else gets scared off by the hurricane! :thumbsup2

just remember if it is raining really bad, stay away from the magic kingdom, they do not have drains as there are underground tunnels for the cast members to travel around the park. and bring extra shoes if need be. :)

Oh and have a blast!

As a native Floridian, let me assuage your fears. The hotels in and around Disney were designed to withstand even the worst hurricanes, which Ike will in all likelihood not be anyway. You will be perfectly safe and well-looked after at any Disney resort. The city of Orlando knows that the Lake Buena Vista area is where most of the tourists are, so it is usually the last place to lose power as well. (Something I was really happy about when Charley and Frances came blowing through a few years go; I lived just across the highway from Disney property and never lost power once.) But that is only in the worst-case scenario.

What will actually happen is that a lot of people who don't realize that most hurricanes are just wind and rain will cancel their reservations, leaving you to enjoy a blissful (if rainy and windy) honeymoon. And, if the winds get a little high and you're stuck in the hotel for a day with nothing to do, it wouldn't be so bad would it? ;) :goodvibes

FYI latest models have Ike over the keys and then onto the Gulf of Mexico. You'll be fine going to WDW.

Thanks all for your advice! We really had no idea what to expect but now feel much better about heading down. :woohoo:

Here's hoping ike slows down and doesn't hit anyone too bad!!
