Curious about some questions on my DS's Math homework.

What is the answer if 0 is divided by something. Like 0 divided by 4.

Here is the question.

Which division CANNOT be done.

A. 5 divided by 1
B. 0 divided by 4
C. 5 divided by 5
D. 5 divided by 0

Initially, I thought B. Would the correct answer be D?

Thanks in advance.

D is the correct answer. You cannot divide by 0. However 0 divided by any number is 0.

the answer is D because nothing can be divided by 0.
0 divided by 4 equals 0
but 5 divided by 0 can't be done

D is the correct answer. If you turn the question around to a multiplication question, it is easy to see why. For example 10/2 = 5 because 5 x 2 = 10. 5/0 is impossible because there is no number that can multiply by 0 to give you five.

0/1 = 0 since 1 x 0 = 0. It is alright to have a zero in the numerator but it isn't okay t have a zero in the denominator. If you have a zero in both it is called indeterminate because there in an infinite number of solutions. 0/0 = anything since 0 x anything =0. This is usually a question that is avoided.
