Master Bath With No Bath??

When we built our house 9 years ago, our plans had the bath configured for a shower stall and a garden tub. Because dh and I were both working, and had the same schedule, I had the builder change out the garden tub to a regular tub/shower combo. So our bathroom has 2 showers.

I'm not a huge fan of the the dual shower heads in the same shower. Sometimes I like my privacy. However, if I could do it over again, I'd still choose the 2 showers (one with a tub). But I'd choose one of the jetted tubs. At the time, we were really busy, and I just didn't research it properly, didn't realize my options.

The garden tub would be a great way to bathe kids however. If you have kids, this might be a consideration.

We have a shower and separate garden tub that the cats likes to play in. If it had jets it would probably get used more.

The last time I was able to take a nice relaxing bath DD was about 5 and came running in every 2 minutes with bathtub toys for me to play with. I gave up on a soaking bath after that.

We have a huge walk-in shower (although it only has one head--I do wish for two or more!) & a garden tub that is such an abnormally small size, if I wanted to replace it, it'd be impossible. The width is a couple inches shorter than anything I can find at a home improvement store now. Plus, it's vinyl--no matter how much I scrub it, it looks awful! I don't know what they were thinking when they installed this tub!

We're going to rip everything out in a year or two---I might just install a window seat where the tub is now since I can't put in a "normal" garden tub without decreasing the width of the shower by a few inches. The project's already causing us headaches & we haven't even started it yet. :rotfl:

We have the garsen tub and a seperate shower. It doesn't have jets and I'm glad. I just don't like jetted tubs. The garden tub is all I need for soaking.

Our Master Bath does not have a tub, but it has a very large shower with 2 heads. However, it is not glassed in so it just has a shower curtain. We do have a tub in the upstairs bath though.

My parents do not have a master bath...just a shower.

Our master bathroom also has just a very large tiled shower. That's fine with DH & I since neither of us have ever (ever!) taken a bath in this house (13 years).

we didnt have one in our old house and missed it. What really hit us though was when we went to sell and several people said that was the main reason they didnt buy.

Whether or not you would use it consider it for resale value.

Our master bathroom has a dinky shower, no tub, and a single sink vanity. Since we had the house built 2o years ago, we have no one to blame but ourselves for such a tiny bathroom. I would have liked to have a tub and a slightly larger shower. And I definitely wanted a double vanity with his and hers sinks. But we could not afford to deviate from the standard floorplan offered by our builder. The other "shared" bathroom has a standard size tub with built in shower and another single sink vanity. My teenage son and daughter have learned to share although I think that my son is overwhelmed with the amount of product that litters the vanity.

No tub here and we don't miss it. I get to use a big tub when we are on vacation once a year - which is about how often I'd probably have time to use one in my house! ;)

As for resale value - you will probably find someone who doesn't want a tub either. Don't worry.

:)

I love my bath..... we have a garden tub in the master bath and I couldn't live without it.

Our Masterbath has a huge walk in shower and no tub.

Personally I think the trend is to go for a spa like feel in the master bath.
To me a nice large shower with double heads gives a more spacious, luxurious feel than trying to cram in a shower/bath combo if you don't really have the space.
I'd think as long as you have a tub elsewhere in the house (preferably on the same level) you would probably still be OK as far as resale.

We bought a house with NO bathtub (and we had a 2 & 5 year old at the time) Luckily there was a big, deep laundry room sink where I gave them baths until our bathroom remodel was finished.

Couldn't quite figure that one. The house was about 3,000 SF with 3 full baths, but no tub. :confused3 Guess they didn't think about resale when they built.
I understand quite a few folks loved the house otherwise, but wanted at least one tub. Not everyone is crazy enough to take on a remodel project right away.
Meet crazy
We offered substantially less than we would have with the notation that the price was a lot lower because of the additional expense for us to add a tub.
