Mass shooting at Fort Hood- Killeen

SGM Posten at Hood has said there are multiple shooters at least 2.

The shots were fired into the building that houses the SRP. I think it's in the family readiness center.

Main things...

Fort Hood is on lockdown.

The Schools around are on lockdown.

Multiple shooters. They did aprehend one.

It started at the softball field and readiness center.

And the President is aware and staff are in the "Situation Room"

They are saying that it is not over - or at least not contained.

I just heard about this. My bf's cousin was stationed at Fort Hood years ago but he still has friends in the area. Prayers go out to all those effected by the shooting.

So far no other Bases in the US are on lockdown. So they think this is isolated at this point.

I have been out of the military loop for a while. I know what a PX is, but what is a "Soldier Readiness Center" and a "Family Readiness Center"? I'm just trying to understand the context of the shooting. ETA: Nevermind. It appears that they are sports domes. I assume one if for training and the other for family recreation.

I had heard 3, as well...but now they seem to be saying that there were 2 that they know of.

The Soldier readiness center is a centralized deployment readiness center. Units or soldiers can go in and do all the things they need to do to prepare for deployment.

I have a question. I was just talking to a friend and he says he thinks this is the military base his nephew was stationed at (he just got out after 25 years in October) but he's not sure. All he knows for sure is that his nephew lives in Austin and worked at the Army base near there (he was a med tech and at the end of his career he was in some type of leadership position with the med techs). Is this the base he was most likely stationed at?

Now there are several links as this has gone out on the AP.
When I reported they did a break in on local TV as I am in Texas.
They said the shooters were in fatigues. So supposedly soldiers or breach of security.
