Mass shooting at Fort Hood- Killeen

I think that most soldiers who have ever been deployed to the Middle East know this phrase; and probably those who have not yet been deployed but are prepping for it. I imagine that it is part of the cultural briefing that they all have to go through.

That's exactly what I was going to say. My neighbor leaves for Afghanistan in a few months and I know he is receiving quite a bit of training. My other neighbor works in intelligence and I think he knows more about Pakistan and Afghanistan than some native to those countries!

QFT. His motives are irrelevant. He is irrelevant. He should receive no press, no attention. He was a maniac that murdered in cold blood. Our attention, our efforts should be focused on the victims of his rampage, not him.

IMO his motives are very relevant. There is a declared jihad. It has not been revoked. *DISCLAIMER* I am not casting a wide net. I am stating the jihad is real and from the phrase that is attributed to him, he may have been a part of it. Chilling.

in this kind of situation there should not have to be a warning.......................the anonymity of the boards doesnt keep people from looking at themselves in the mirror.......................and maybe being a bit ashamed of themselves.:flower3:

I don't get your post.

There is rule about posting about religion and I would hate to see any thread get cancelled when folks can't remember the rules.

There is no shame on either side in observing the facts--we just aren't allowed to talk about it.

Like I said pages ago- I'm glad he survived and hopefully his motivations will come to light.

I was very careful after the warning. I wasn't even sure whether to post that I would have understood the words he used because I have heard them on the news before.

I would have understood it, but only because I've heard it on several news reports in the past. Those nearby him may have understood it for the same reason (and some may have known the Arabic language.)

Or those being deployed may have learned some Arabic as part of their pre-deployment training. A girl I worked with who was in the reserves was studying Arabic like crazy in the months prior to heading overseas.

The more I read about the killer, the more I am disturbed that this person was even serving in the United States Military.

On another note, this incident also goes to show that psychiatrists and psychologists can have just as many issues as anybody and, even with their specialized training, may not be able to deal with their own demons, emotions or actions.

This whole terrible tragedy certainly is thought provoking. I hope justice is served on this killer, and I pray for all the families of the soldiers who were innocently killed (by one of their own, especially).

That's what I meant when I said that some of them might have known the Arabic language. Some of them could have already been over there and some were obviously getting ready to deploy (and some are trained in it for other reasons, as well.)

Did I read that the shooters family was upset he was transferred to a military hospital?

Yes. It is very disturbing. I just read about his anti-American propaganda. I'm surprised nothing was done about it. It sounded like he was pretty vocal.

I also find it amazing that so many Arabic language speakers were nearby. If someone yelled that in my hearing, I would absolutely NOT know what they had said, let alone what it meant in English.

I would recognize it, and I'm not even a military member. DH received quite a bit of language training before deploying, and I helped him study at home.

"On Thursday afternoon, a radicalized Muslim US Army officer shouting, "Allahu akbar!" ("God is great!") committed the worst act of terror on American soil since 9/11. And no one wants to call it an act of terror or associate it with Islam.

What cowards we are. Political correctness killed those patriotic Americans at Fort Hood as surely as the Islamist gunman did. And the media treat it like a case of nondenominational shoplifting. "

This is really scary. The more I read, the more I think there's SO MUCH more of this nonsense going on right here, on our own soil, than we may realize. This was clearly going on right under the army's nose and they seemingly failed to address it, or they avoided it out of fear of being accused of "islamaphobia" or profiling...or whatever PC nonsense would come out of it. :headache:

I agree- the army probably didn't dare to adress the issues because the would be accused of being anti-islamic.

Just found out today that one of my son's classmates father was killed in this shooting. They were all sort of shocked that she was in school today. How awful for her, she is just 14.
