We are going to CA during April vacation 2018. As any teachers out there know, flying Sat to Sat on April vaca is crazy expensive. So, we hit the 331 days and right now American has one fare for the first leg of our flight on Sat of vaca at $156 per ticket with a layover. The times are good abd would avoid LA traffic. The return flight options won't show til next week. I'm tempted to buy it, but prefer a nonstop... Nonstop are 287 for just one way right now, nope. Opinions? Should I just grab it or wait to see what happens once I can look round trip?? I have no flexibility with dates unfortunately.
Ps, From past experience April vaca is like flying on Xmas week, you can wait a little bit after release, but you can not wait too long or the prices get nasty (like 800 a ticket nasty).
I know I have asked similar before, but now I have some real numbers. Wish I was not most undecided person ever. Thx!!

I'd grab the $156 and book the return when the rates come out for your return date. If you can get the same rate return, that's a round trip BOS-LAX for $312. That's a pretty great fare, IMO!

Thx!!! You think it is hopeless that I'll find a direct flight for close to that price? Jeez, I feel naive even asking that....hahaha. i think i know the answer.....

I've seen some great prices one way and then when they open the return direction it's crazy high. Good luck, I hope it works for you.

Yes, that's my fear. I may wait to price out round trip options. I'm willing to fly a different airline there and back.

So, I'm seeing 324 round trip, layover to and from, for BOS to LAX Sat to Sat of April vaca. I'm thinking I should just grab it. I'm probably not going to find a direct flight THAT week for 324, right? I'm gun-shy....just need validation to just book it. Thx

I don't tend to fly school break weeks but I've been hard to find decent priced and good non-stop options from BOS to the West Coast (travel frequently for work). I've been flying out of my home airport (Portland, ME) because if I have to connect I'd rather just go from Portland. There hasn't been much incentive to drive to Boston lately, prices are high and the schedules are no better. Not sure if that helped you any haha

You did price a direct flight. You state it has a layover. A direct flight is one that makes a stop on the way. Did you mean to say a non stop flight? They are completely different. Also, what is "vaca"? Do you mean vacation???

Well....it doesn't matter bc Google flights said it was 324, but then when I went to American Airlines actual site it was waaay more for that flight. Not sure what was up with that.
Yes, I meant a direct flight with a layover vs a nonstop flight. April Vaca is April Vacation....basically spring break for public schools in Massachusetts.

Hahaha, not much help, but see your point. Thx. I am married to a teacher so I have to fly school vacation weeks for family vacations. I live about 20 mins from Boston's Logan airport so Boston is my go to airport.
In 2015 on school vacation week, I scored nonstop flight BOS to LAX on Virgin for 378, but their prices are crazy now.
