I recently found out our cruise added a Marvel Day at Sea. I don't know anything about Marvel, except that it's superheroes. Cruising with early elementary-age kids. What should I do/read/watch to get them/me up to speed?

Don't worry if you don't have time to learn about it all. We'll be going on our 3rd Stars Wars cruise next month. I've only seen the first 3 movies(that came out when I was a kid, 40 yrs ago) and my dd hasn't seen any. She was 8 yrs old and 10 yrs old on our cruises and 11 yrs old for our upcoming one. We aren't SW fans, but like to cruise in Jan, on the Fantasy which is always SWDAS. We didn't know who any of the characters were, but still had fun doing the different activities. I don't know anything about Marvel either, but it looks like it would be fun. Have you looked at any past trip reports on here? That could give you an idea about which characters they have on the ship.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe movies (Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, etc) would probably be a bit much for your kids. They’re really aimed at teens and adults. At their ages, you could look for the animated Marvel shows on Disney XD or Disney +, if you have that.

DCL just mistakingly emailed some guests sailing in early 2020 and told them that they were now on a Marvel Day at Sea cruise...I would call and make sure that your cruise is really a Marvel cruise before you go to too much trouble!

One of the Marvel Day at Sea activities is always a "Marvel 101" session to learn about the franchise and characters. They also show Marvel movies on the ship that day, so if you don't have the chance to watch something before the cruise, you can always catch a couple movies onboard!

depending how you feel about the fantasy violence, the movies are easy place to start (20+ movies, rated PG-13). alternately, Avengers Assemble cartoon follows along with the same characters, so you'd get taste of who everyone is that way as well. I think just about everything is on Disney+ now, if you have a subscription.

Yes, I just got a follow-up email saying there isn't actually going to be one. I'm sure some people are really disappointed! Thanks for all the input, anyway. I may need to watch these movies!

Well, now you have more time to get caught up! I am a little disappointed for you. The Marvel nighttime deck show is really amazing.

Yep, I got those MDAS emails for some clients yesterday. I was surprised because they don't typically add a special event this late in the game. I called DCL and they confirmed it was a mistake - they'd been getting calls about it all day! A correction email showed up in the evening. Too bad - they would have loved having MDAS added to their cruise!
