Martha's sentence

She lied to the FBI in their investigation, supposedly.

Rightly or wrongly, she believed she was telling the truth because she did believe she had done nothing wrong. In any case the whole thing is utter b.s. and selective prosecution. Taxpayers should be outraged.

She didn't take the stand so she didn't "lie" under oath. I don't remember all the details, but I think it was something as strange as you said Lisa.

Wasn't the main charge obstruction of justice?

Just a question, but if it's such a big deal to lie to federal investigators how come Bill Clinton didn't get five months in jail?

If you work for the government and you lie to the people, you are doing your job. If you are the people and you lie to the government, you have committed a crime.

sorry but what about all these enron and other corporate scandals that hurt people way way more
these MEN arent going to jail
im sorry but this is bs pure and simple she was taken down for being a strong powerful woman
if she did it she should be punished but so should others who hurt and STOLE so much more
she should get a mistrial alone for that guy who lied to get on her jury and wanted to convict her for regular people

please i can think of better ways to spend $

Not surprised. I guess that will teach her to engage in tactics otherwise reserved for well connected, rich white men.

Snoopy, my feelings exactly.

She didn't do anything I wouldn't have done.

Ummm, yes, some of them are and more will likely be following -- many of the trials (for companies like Enron, WorldCom, Global Crossing) haven't concluded yet.

I don't doubt that she was treated more severly because of her name and her power, but I really have to   at the notion that the whole thing was just about "keeping a strong woman down"

I certainly dont think that her being a woman was all of it but come on her trial was done very quickly and these other trials are still dragging on and didnt some of these guys get off on a mistrial?

The issue wasn't that she did insider trading - it was that she lied to federal investigators under oath, and she's convicted because of that lie.

Actually, she lied during an interview -- she was not under oath.

DisMN, I totally agree that she was arrogant. I think it is common knowledge that Martha is NOT a nice lady. But does she deserve to go to jail because she's a female dog?

Keli, I feel the same way. Clinton lied under oath to the federal grand jury, and all he got was his Arkansas law license revoked -- like he was ever going to practice law in Arkansas again . . .

I don't want to start a debate, but why does mostly everything on this board revert back to Bill Clinton?????? If I fooled around with Monica Lewinsky and was asked about it I would have lied too. Go ahead and flame away. I'm just so sick of everything political being blamed on Bill Clinton and everything criminal being blamed on him too. Bush snorted Cocaine, where's all the outrage for that? Oh yeah, he also drove drunk and could have killed someone.

Having to agree with Snoopy on this one...I just don't think it's right for the amount of money that was at stake....I still think of those Tyco guys getting off using the corporation's money as their own ....and because of one juror they get off!
