Today is her day in court to hear her sentence. I have read that she should get 12 to 16 months in prison. Her lawyer will appeal that, he would like to see her do her time at home under house arrest.

What do you feel she should get?

Let her take the maximum penalty. Maybe that will set a precedent for other celebrities. Mess around and pay the price. Just because she is who she is doesn't mean she should get off the hook. Maybe she will decorate her cell?!?!

IMO she was overcharged and made an example of...but she was found guilty of the charges...I say 3-6 months in jail.

12 months would be sufficient. If I were the judge, I'd be inclined to be more lenient IF she showed even a bit of remorse. But since she continues to deny that she did anything wrong and now wants to whine that her poor company might suffer (hello! it already has been and continues to suffer), then she needs some extended time away from it all to comtemplate what she did.

I agree. ::yes::

The chair.

JK!! :teeth:

My sister and I have a runnng battle about Martha. My sister LOVES her and I despise that anal way she handles everything. For YEARS we've been back and forth about her and I can't help but feel cocky about her lot in life now.... :teeth:

Truthfully, I think she should get the minimum, plus community service to live with a sloppy person who does not measure every measurement to the nth and harvest their own honey from a bee farm...

I think she's being made an example of. But, I also don't like that she seems to think she's allowed to get by with not following the rules.
I think she needs to spend some time in jail, just for a reality check and then community service with people that don't delicately fold their napkins into swans or such.

community service of an abhorable type and loads of it.

:hyper: I'm a Martha fan, but still believe, Don't do the crime, if you can't do the Time!!!!!!!nana2tots

she can be rather bossy, huh!!!!!!!!Money, Money, brings out the worst in People!!!!!!Glad i don't have any!!!!!

I agree with Serena.

Let her scrub her own toilet with the rest of us!

I think that the charges against Martha were blown WAY out of proportion. We are talking about a few thousand dollars to a person that is worth millions. I do not think she deliberately did it. I do think she forgot some things that led up to being charged, but do you remember every small thing you do? I don't. I also think she is being judged by her personality, not her actions. She is a woman who took a simple concept and turned it into a multi-million dollar corporation. She made a lot of people a lot of money (not me though) and her actions hurt only a few, unlike the Enron crew that deliberately and literally stole BILLIONS and hurt millions of people (they should be made the example of). She should get a minimal amount of time. Maybe three months or so. I don't think that is what the judge will giove her. Remember, not being nice is not a crime. Just my opinion. Jay

I think she was overcharged as well. In-house arrest and community service is plenty.

When you look at the criminals that are allowed to walk the street today, it seems ridiculous to put her in prison.

I take no satisfaction in seeing someone else fall just because they're a celebrity or have a lot of money. I really don't understand the joy so many seem to get out of this.

Have not really followed it much, don't really follow the high profile crimes, media events they are, but I would think she should get what the law normally doles out for like crimes for anyone.

One more thing - Martha also promoted a way of life that was starting to disappear. What is wrong with having the finer things in life and using good manners. And, yes, knowing how to fold a napkin properly. While I do not follow her style and never watched her show, I do admire it. You have to give her credit for what she has accomplished. She is an American success story.

I also think that she was overcharged. IMO, they jumped on her because she is a woman, and a celebrity. Since she was found guilty, first offense, I think she should have probation, a fine and community service. I am definitely NOT a Martha lover, but the stupid cell decorating jokes, and all the others are annoying to me. Just because a person is mean to their employees, doesn't mean they should go to jail. There are plenty of male bosses out there that are mean to their employees, and you never hear one word about them...I agree with Jay, she is being judged by her personality. I wonder how sweet the Enron guys were to their employees-we never heard about that.

OK, I'll get down from my soapbox now..

I think she is being made an example of. I am not a big fan, but I know a witch hunt when I see one. Sure it's kinda funny to see Ms. Perfect in this type of situation, but still.

By the way, do you all know what she actually was found guilty of?

I think she should get community service at most.

I think the judge, however, will send a message that women can't play by the same rules as rich, connected white men and give her jail time.

Lying to federal investigators and obstruction of justice.

Right, it wasn't insider trading or anything of the like. What is really bizarre is that she was found guilty of obstructing an investigation and lying during that investigation that found her innocent of Insider Trading.
