I was planning on making chicken parmesean last night for supper for DH and I. Grocery day is Friday so I had just enough stuff - chicken breasts, pasta, sauce ingredients, cheese - didn't even have bread or salad - but no biggie because we're not much on bread and DH doesn't really eat a lot of salad.

So I get home, put the chicken in italian dressing to marinate, take the puppy for a walk (oh - anyone who read the other thread - she survived just fine in her kennel all day - I suffered a lot more than she did ) put some laundry in - stuff like that.

DH gets home as I'm starting supper and says he has to go to a meeting on our end of town so two guys he works with are meeting him at our house and he invited them to stay for supper after the meeting. I had three chicken breasts - so that was okay - and I decide I can get everything fixed and then run to the grocery while the chicken is finishing baking in the oven and get some bread, salad stuff, and something for dessert. So I'm feeling all June Cleaverish because I'm going to throw together this fabulous dinner party at the last minute. I fixed the pasta and was frying the chicken. Well, I transferred two of the chicken breasts from the pan to the casserole dish no problem. The third one - I dropped in the floor! All the breading falls off and while I'm frantically trying to find something to pick it up with Maggie (the puppy) comes over and licks it! (Note: Maggie had just been in trouble for trying to eat cat poop out of the cat's litter box.) I was freaking out! by this time I had barely enough time to get to the grocery and throw together a salad, let alone fix new chicken. Germaphobes - stop reading. So I picked the chicken up off the floor, washed it off the best I could, did my best to re-bread it, fried it again, and popped it in the casserole dish! I did make a note of how I put the dish in the oven so I could make sure that DH got the icky floor chicken!

Anyway, everything turned out okay except for that while I was getting tea out of the fridge the guys helped themselves so the guy who is sort of DH's boss ended up eating icky floor chicken. Whoops! He kept on complimenting what a great meal it was - but who knows he could have just been being nice. What was he going to say, " Yum, is that a pinch of kitty litter I detect? It really brings all the flavors of the meal together." I confessed to DH later and he said that the guy who ate icky floor chicken has 4 kids ages 6 months to 7 years and said he was excited about any meal that wasn't pb&j or that ended up in the floor! :rotfl: :rotfl:

At least it wasn't pb&j!

I just want to know how three grown men were satisfied with 3 chicken breasts!! I think everyone I know must be pigs.

:rotfl: Sounds like something I would do. Glad to hear it turned out well.

Uh. Having people over on the spot is never easy.

I would have done the same thing. ;)

I was worried about that too but they were pretty big breasts (hee hee) and I had plenty of pasta and sauce and I did manage to get bread and stuff for a salad.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

I probably would have done the same thing. Hey, you washed it! :teeth:

:rotfl2: STOP!!! I am spitting coffee on the computer now!! :rotfl2:

That is so funny!!

I also would have washed off the chicken.

Only thing I would have done different is made DH do the grocery run since he's the one who gave so little notice about dinner guests. :goodvibes

Sounds like a delicious dinner. What did you eat?

That was really funny, and you know I would have done the same thing....

OH......................MY.....................GOD...........That was hysterical!! I am trying to keep my composure because I am at work. That story truly made me laugh so hard. Thanks cuz I needed that.

By the way...I totally would have done the same thing..

I can't stop laughing now! :rotfl2:

I ate salad and pasta. The texture of chicken has really grossed me out since I've been pregnant - I was just fixing it originally because it's DH's favorite and he's out of town this weekend.

I would do it too, why not? I'm sure restaurants do it :confused3
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww :rotfl2:

your a better woman than me...when he said they were coming for dinner, I would have called and order BBQ take out!!!

You go Martha!

If I was at home in that situation I would have done the same thing!!

HOWEVER.....I don't think most restaurants would do this. I have worked as a manager in fast food, worked in several departments in a major grocery store and have worked in school food srvice and have never done this OR have I ever seen it done. I have dropped things and co-workers have also but we always have thrown it away. Sometimes it caused us to run out of something but it was worth it in the long run. The only thing I have re-used was a snack pack pudding cup that a child dropped on the floor that was still sealed and I washed the outside of the cup.

I am surte it HAS happened but most professionals would not do this.
