Hello
I am planning a church outing where a large group of people will be making somores and roasting marshmallows round a campfire.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something to roast marshmallows on that would be cheap and we could get a large amount of?

Any other thoughts/ tips are welcome

Thanks!

DH buys dowells at Home Depot and sharpens them with a pencil sharpener. They are pretty long so people would be able to keep a safe distance from the fire. Not sure of how much these cost but I don't think they are very expensive.

We got some great roasting sticks (metal) at a BSA event a vendor had marked them down to $1 each.....I think they are made by Coleman but not sure what the original retail is.

Have used metal clothes hangers and wooden sticks cut down as well.

Dont' forget that you won't need one for each person. Not everyone can be near the fire at the same time, to they will be taking turns.

We use sticks from the woods! :)

In Texas, we are so tough, that we use our bare hands to roast marshmellows, but that's just us ;)

If it's a large crowd, I wouldn't recommend hangers as those thing aren't really that stable, may be sharp, and aren't really great for kids.

I'd go with the dowels. Those are cheap and will work.

Bamboo skewers. You can usually find 100 of them for $1 at the dollar store. since they're so thin and made of wood, soak them in water before use to help them from not burning through.

As kids, we used to just use debarked and sharpened branches. That being said, I recently found extendible marshmallow forks at Target for a dollar each.

If you can contact your local cub scout pack or boy scout troop, they might have some they would be willing to loan you. I know my pack has about 20 roasting sticks, and would be willing to loan them out to another group.

If we remember to bring them we use fondue skewers. If we don't we get the right size twigs or small branches, widdle the bark off the end, and use them.
