We are considering an exchange thru DVC. Our home resort is OKW. Has anyone been to Marriott's Custom House (Boston) ? What was your experience, any recommendation's appreciated.

Don't know anything about Marriott Custom House, but Boston is a cool city.

Have fun!...

My wife & I have never stayed in the Marriot Custom House but we are lifelong residents of Massachusetts (53 yrs) and have relatives in the city so we can give you some infor on the area. While the hotel is located in a financial district it is in a central location and a short walk to many historic sites and the waterfront. Faneul Hall Marketplace, the Old State House and the Freedom Trail Walk (about 5 miles if you do the wholeh istorical walk) are close by. Check out the city view from the Bay Tower Room Restaurant, the Prudential Center (Top of the Hub Restaurant) or the top of the John Hancock Tower (if it is open). The Duck Tour Boat that leaves from the Prudential Center Complex (Boylston St) is a fun way to get some city history and also a view of Boston from the Charles River. Spring and summer are probably the most pleasant times to visit. The city streets get cold and windy during Dec through February. Try this website http://www.bostonusa.com.

I have never stayed in the Custom House either, however, I was born, brought up and worked in the city for at least 10 years. The Custom House is on the edge of the financial district. The area is actually considered Fanueil Hall/Waterfront. The location is fabulous. I just wanted to clarify the location, because if you mention financial district most would direct you over to the area between Post Office Square and the Federal Reserve Bank, which is about a mile from the Custom House.

I have a friend that has a law firm in the Custom House and it it exquisite. From what I understand the rooms at the Custom House are fabulous and the views are wonderful no matter which side you are on. The best is the views are even better now, since the expressway (elevated) just came down. Make sure you are on a high floor.

Now a word of caution, as you probably have heard Boston is going through the lovely Big Dig. This area is an area that is effected by the construction. Although the expressway has been put underground the above ground area is still ripped up and not very pretty to look at. Eventually it will be the Rose Kennedy Memorial Garden.

Fanueil Hall is a wonderful place to walk around with great shops and restaurants. My favorite is to go over to the Boston Harbor Hotel on Rowes Wharf for lunch or tea. The Bay Tower Room Restaurant is closed. So you cannot checkout the view from there. However, the view from either Top of the Hub at the Prudential Center is wonderful (as is the food) or you can go to the observation deck just for the view. I totally agree with looking at www.bostonusa.com for more information. I would also recommend checking the Old Town Trolley Company. You can get off and on all day around the city. This is the same company you have in SF (we did it in SF and it was great).

Hope this helps.

Sorry about the bad info on the BayTower Restaurant. I wasn't aware of the closing. Here is an old website showing a view of the Marriot Custom House Tower & Clock from the Bay Tower Restaurant so you can at least see what you missed. The photo althought small will give you some idea of the orientation of the Marriot Custom House.

I work in Boston and when the Custom Tower opened as a timeshare I used my DVC membership as a way in to view the rooms as a possible trade (I wasn't really planning on trading, just wanted to see the rooms). The rooms, while small, are beautifully decorated. Very very upscale. I only saw a one bedroom, and like I said, they are TINY, but depending on how many will be travelling with you, they looked to be set up nicely and seemed comfortable. I agree about the views and location, can't be beat. You walk out the door and are in the middle of the action. Whale watches, harbor cruises, aquarium, museums, shopping, TONS of restaurants. Enjoy.

It only has one BR units. I haven't been there but it is quite well thought of. I wouldn't hesitate to trade there if it fit my needs otherwise.
