Tell me about Marrakesh, thinking of booking and would love to hear some reviews. Going for marathon weekend (to run the full) and we will be without kids and want to try some different restaurants.

We are also going for Coral Reef, Wolfgang Puck Cafe, and Kona for breakfast. We have done Kona for dinner before.

Up until 2 weeks ago we were big Marrakesh fans. My DD11 loved it and insisted that we go. Food was always tasty, service was great and the belly dancer was fun. This past trip changed our mind. When we first walked in there was a huge party ( 12 or so) sitting there and most of them had thier shoes off! They were american and I know it wasnt the restaurants " fault" but there has to be health codes and people louging shoeless should be a no no. So we were on the deluxe plan so we had app, entree, and dessert. Our apps were ok.. frozen in the middle though so I am guessing not made there. DD got a chicken couscous dish. She was fine with it and ate it. I got the shish kebabs which consisted of 2- 6 inch skewers each with 3 tiny cubes of beef and 3 cooked cherry tomatos sitting in a pool of what would swear was V8. In the middle was a scoop of the worst hummus ever... ever. I picked at my meal. For dessert dd ordered the fresh fruit with mint ice cream... it came.. they were out of mint ice cream so it was a bowl of fruit. I got the bastilla...described as flaky pastry filled with vanilla cream. What I got were 2 layers of pastry filled with what looked like infection:sick:. It was a thick yellow slimy goo that I swear looked like well... infection. Now I do have an issue with things that look like this ( vanilla pudding, egg nog... that thick yellow look) but this was by far the worst thing I had ever seen. I wish I had a pic. so needless to say that was not eaten. So we pay and leave and a few hours later... distress.. serious distress... I honestly almost went to the er. I ended up passed out on a bench on a porch at Grand Floridian trying not to get rained on and praying not to die. Last time I was this sick I had food poisoning. Now I dont think I had food poisoning but something didnt sit right at all. I had vomiting.. gastic issues... shakes... thankfully it passed in time to at least go into dinner at 1900 Park Fare although I didint eat but was able to go in without needing to excuse myself. I will never ever go back again.. to the point where it will be years before I will probably even go into that Morocco.

I would stay away from Marrakesh. My family liked it the least out of all the different places we eaten.

I think it is so hard to depend on someone else's opinion--every night at a restaurant is different and every family has their own tastes. We loved it--and kids (5 and 8) listed it as one of their must do's! To us, the food at Disney is fine--not bad, but certainly not the best you'll ever eat in your life. What makes it, for us, is the theming--along with the food, of course!

For instance, we ate at Kona's 2 years ago. The food was good, but I felt like I could have been in any hotel restaurant anywhere--it was just so ordinary. We would not go back. Marrakesh, on the other hand, felt like a real experience. The food was good and it was a place I couldn't find just down the street. We feel the same way about Tutto's--the food is quite good (and we go on DDP so it is a good deal) but it feels like just a regular restaurant--and I can get those at home.

We really enjoyed both food and the atmosphere--I'd say give it a try if you've never been!

Thanks for the feedback. I chickened out on Marrakesh and opted for Le Cellier instead. Since I am running the full marathon, I decided not to try a new type of food that I have never eaten before hand incase something does not agree with me. It is still on my list of places to try though, just not this trip.

What you have described is food borne illness, and luckily for you, a quick and mild one.
It is likely that something you ate contained large quantities of bacteria and the toxins they
can produce because you had such a quick reaction.
It sounds like your body tried to expell the bacteria/toxin as quickly as possible...
Slower reactions (24 hours or more) are usually caused by a smaller amount of bacteria
(as much as 10 salmonella bacteria can make you sick) present that when eaten, multiplies
and then can produce a toxin that makes you sick for a longer period of time.
Viruses and parasites :scared1::scared1::scared1:are also sometimes passed along via food- viruses being a quick illness onset and parasites taking a long time to make a person sick- up to 4 - 6 weeks...

Symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarheea(sp?), chills, fever, dehydration are associated with food borne illness, along with lesser known more serious effects such as paralysis, meningitis and death.

One out of every 4 people in the US will get it this year...
That's 76 million people and 5000 of those will die from something that they ate. :scared1:

You can't always see or smell or taste it, which is why so many people get sick from food that was improperly handled.:sad2:
They would not eat it if they thought it would make them sick or kill them...

Sorry this happened to you- and on vacation...
I don't eat at RM either-
poor service (we were ignored for over 5 minutes after being seated)
and the food ranges from unimpressive to, in your experience, ummm
dangerous  and depending on what your partially frozen/only partially cooked
appetizers actually were, they could have been the problem...

I know that there are folks who love :lovestruc the food and their experience at RM and
go back every trip- that is true of all restaurants I think- you can catch them on good and less than good days.
People have to decide for themselves...

This same thing happened to me after eating dinner at Les Chefs de France. It had to be the cheese plate, because that was the only thing my husband and I didn't share, and he was fine. Luckily this was the last night of my vacation, so I didn't miss out on anything. It did "hit" me (like a brick wall, out of a dead sleep) at 12:00 midnight on the dot and I was running back and forth from the bed to the bathroom until ME picked us up at 11:00 am. I liked the food there, but I don't know when we'll be able to go back. I can't even eat cheese (other than common stuff like cheddar or colbyjack) without getting nauseous.

As for Marrakesh, I loved it and will absolutely be doing it in the future, but not until I have knocked all the rest of the places I haven't been off my list (which will be almost done after my next trip :))

This is one of my husband's and son's favorite restaurants to visit. They both love the shish kebabs and the preserved lemon chicken. I really enjoy the vegetable cous cous. I'm not sure we will be heading to Marrakesh next year, but it is definitely on our list for restaurants we really enjoy. :goodvibes
