March 7th Fast Pass Experiences

I just posted this on the other thread. Anyone notice on the Space Mountain pass at the bottom right hand corner it says, "GP 11:40". Do you guys think that could mean "grace period 11:40"?? 11:40 would be 15 minutes after the FP expires. I can't read the print at the bottom of the Soarin' pass, so no way to check the theory yet. --Katie

It might be GP. But it might not.

As someone who self-policed and always returned in the window given let me tell you all - it's REALLY not all that bad. :rotfl:

This is also a super fantastic 1st world problem to have. :thumbsup2 :hippie: :rolleyes1

Good catch - bet you're right.

Just curious because I don't know. We are planning for our first trip this August. But how can you tell what time the fastpass was pulled? Is it the 9:45 time in the corner? If so, that is a great fastpass window for Space Mountain--right? I figured if a fastpass wasn't pulled til 9:45 for Space Mountain it would be a whole lot later window. Isn't it busy or are the spring break crowds not there yet?

I imagine if this change does nothing else, it will reduce the number of FP's taken first thing in the morning. If you're there to pull it, why not just ride? The ones I pulled first thing were always to use later in the day.

I just wonder how many on this board are going to go out of their way to obnoxiously express their displeasure for the change in policy, to the Cast Members manning the FP lines. Or how many are going to wait until 20 minutes past and then obnoxiously test the waters, complain, beg and plead.
Why would people do that? I don't like the policy change, but it's not the CMs fault.

Where are the "enforcement" stories? I want to hear if the CMs are really denying people. Come on Disney people it is 12:35 who will share the first story?

I think you might be right. I got a FP for TSM last Saturday, the 3rd, and asked the CM about late arrivals, he told me, "Yes, but only 15 minutes."

Sadly, because people do...I guess they feel like they have to blame someone?

Thumbs up to Disney for adding that to the FP...even if they spelled it wrong. My one complaint with them changing the policy was that the old print on the tickets basically said you could use them late. (Or more specifically stated NOT early, and requested that you use it in the time window, but didn't spell out that you can use them late.) By adding that they won't accomodate late arrivals, they ARE basically changing the policy "in writing" leaving very little for guests to truly complain about. I do feel bad for the CM that will probably have to take a lot of verbal abuse over the next year or so from people due to the change, but it won't come from me.

We've been using them late for the last 5 years, and I will miss that ability, but as long as they are enforcing them properly, I don't see it as a major issue with our touring strategies.

Agree.

Why pull a Fast Pass first thing before riding? It's likely to have a return time of about 9:45 (except for TSM, of course). And it would be faster to just do a second ride immediately after the first (probably a 10-minute standby wait at most), rather than wait till 9:45 for a second ride.

And not much point in saving the FP for "later," since by 10:45 (approximate end of window), we are likely to be far away in another part of the park.

ETA: I guess we could possibly use it for a third ride after the first two rides, assuming that we want to ride the same attraction three times in a row at park opening.

Some people just expect the worst of others. I guess expressing disappointment in a new policy on a message board implies that one woudl behave terribly in public.

The crowds should be pretty low until this weekend. I believe the Spring Break season is the second week of March to the third week of April.

He is consistent though, I'll give him that. You'd think that now that his life's mission of late FP arrivals being disallowed seems to be complete, he'd be a little happier.

I guess you see that there was a method to the madness. :cool1: Now we just need to keep the new policy intact. I guess y'all will never learn. The bold statements that are made by me on this board are made for only one reason; to rattle cages.:charac2:

Just heard a report that they were still turning people away that were 5 mins early.

So....it's not as if you have no idea what time your return window will be. It's right there, up above you, over the FP machines. So...if you don't think you can return within that particular window time, then don't take a FP..just ride now and take your chances later.

Here's the thing...yes, we were always able to use the FP later, after the window had come and gone. BUT....the back of that FP did ask that you return within the time stated, and the front said no early returns. Yes, the CMs were instructed to let us use them late. BUT...on the other hand, if there had been any kind of issue with an attraction, the CM would be perfectly within their right, and Disney policy, to not allow someone to return hours after their FP window had come and gone. No, the guest wouldn't be happy, but it would still be enforceable. Only at Soarin' did I see that happen with any regularity.

So, now we can't use them late. That's really not a huge issue. If you're eating at a particular time, and will be cutting it too close, then maybe you shouldn't take a FP. If an attraction breaks down, and you get stuck and then miss your return window, they will usually accommodate (or accomodate ;)) you with a use anywhere FP. At least that's been my experience.

It will be interesting to see what happens today and over the next few days. But in all reality??? You have to realize that the vast majority of park guests had no idea you could use the FP after the window closed. I can't tell you how many times I tried to give away FPs as I left the park...I was turned down about 60% of the time. The reason??? Oh, those are no good anymore. The return time was hours ago.
